The facilities at the site include a Learning Resource Centre to encourage a love of reading and independent research skills; a dedicated ICT Mac suite and well equipped Art and Technology facilities; a 300 seat theatre with multiple performance opportunities; excellent sports facilities including 3G pitch and full use of the site leisure centre including gym, swimming pool, tennis courts, and full athletics track and field facilities. The school is sponsored by The Community Academies Trust (CAT) which has a track record of achieving and sustaining OUTSTANDING schools. Our approach is based on a fundamental belief that all young people have talent and the potential to achieve more than they ever thought possible. That achievement will be in three main areas: Academic: Excellent standards and outstanding progress are a prerequisite for success in life equipping young people with the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful, happy and productive citizens. Social: Excellent relationships for learning are a prerequisite for all other achievements. Relationships that engender mutual respect between young people, and all other members of our academies’ communities will ensure learning can be fun in a disciplined and caring environment where the highest expectations are the norm. Personal: All young people achieve things they can be proud of every day in addition to academic success and outside our school’s planned curriculum. We have a vital role in ensuring individuals develop their own talents and interests and have a responsibility to instil in them a sense of pride in who they are and what they achieve. The Telford Priory School works closely with The Telford Langley School and The Telford Park School and our students, parents and carers to raise achievement, aspiration and self-esteem for all. The Telford Priory School is constantly looking to build new partnerships and improve the life chances of its students. Performing Arts opportunities, Business enterprise occasions and Sporting events and training are just part of the curriculum and enrichment on offer. We believe that all students should thrive in their learning environment and be able to identify their own passion aspiring to be the best that they can be. Staff at The Telford Priory School are dedicated to all students and offer support above and beyond the traditional school day. 3 A School for the 21st Century High standards are expected from the students and all achievements are recognised in a positive way. The staff of the School have developed a style of learning which embraces the imaginative use of technology coupled with proven traditional methods. This enables students to achieve greater independence and maturity. Information Technology is used as a tool and resource for learning by students and teachers. There are sophisticated Information Technology networks, computers and multi-media facilities. There is an emphasis on the core subjects of Mathematics, English and Science. The broad curriculum includes Business, ICT, Music, Dance and Drama activities which ensure that students have a balanced education. The extra-curricular programme gives students a choice of opportunities which complement and extend their education. These include a range of sports and hobbies and form an integral part of our curriculum beyond the traditional school day. Learning activities are directed towards self-reliance, confidence and teamwork. There is individualised support for students with special requirements The School uses electronic communication with parents whenever possible. Parents work in partnership with the School to support their child’s education. The Personal Tutorial System helps to aid personal, social and educational development of students. The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. Student performance is monitored closely and regular meetings are held to agree goals and individual action plans. Parents receive regular reports and are encouraged to make an appointment with their child’s Personal Tutor to discuss their progress. The Telford Priory School operates a House System with vertical tutor groups. The vertical tutoring system places students from each of the five year groups in the same tutor group which we believe creates a nurturing and family-like atmosphere. We have four houses each supported by a Head of House and Assistant Head of House: Shakespeare: ‘It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.’ What does this look like at TPS: We can be whatever we strive to be and, as ‘Team Shakespeare’, we support each other to be the very best we can be. Churchill: ‘Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential.’ What does this look like at TPS: Churchill wanted people to always give 100% in any task given and with continuous effort came rewards. This is particularly key within events such as Sports Day, Inter-House competitions, Vivo’s and school life in general. 4 Elgar: ‘My idea is that there is music in the air, music all around us; the world is full of it, and you simply take as much as you require.’ What does this look like at TPS: Being part of Elgar house is about participation and supporting others. “We have to be in it to win it.” Students give their best and will do what they can in order to achieve our goal as a house. #Teamelgar Newton: ‘If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.’ What does this look like at TPS: Everyone in Newton pulls together, whether winning or losing, we are one team. It is our responsibility to own our actions and the impact they have. Siblings are placed in the same House, although not necessarily in the same tutor group. Our Tutor groups meet for 20 minutes each day, and with the rest of their House for an assembly once a week. There is a structured PHSE (Personal, Social & Health Education) programme in place which includes current affairs, personal development, house assembly and administrative tutoring tasks. Each House selects a charity and raises funds through their own ideas. Friendly rivalry is encouraged as the students compete for the best attendance, the highest number of Vivo’s achieved in a given period and of course sporting activities. 5 State of the Art Facilities and Resources Creating the right working conditions was the key priority when the School was designed and the result is a spacious and light building which captures the atmosphere of the modern office. The facilities are resourced with the most up to date equipment, so that the School can provide an environment which helps students to learn effectively. Large Learning Bases provide flexible teaching areas for student groups. Science Laboratories have been designed and equipped to provide large areas of accessible space for practical work. Computer systems with Internet facility are available to students. An advanced IT infrastructure enables all parts of the School to be linked by computer, television, radio and video. Interactive screen technology is available in all teaching areas where teachers and students can access a comprehensive range of engaging media. The Learning Resource Centre can store and distribute books, pamphlets, The Dance & Drama Studio is equipped with sprung floors and full length mirrors. The Theatre has tiered seating for School productions and public events. The music facilities include teaching areas for individual, small group and larger ensemble work. A floodlit fenced 3G synthetic grass pitch is a superb teaching venue for football, and other pitch sports, and also ensures that a full schedule of matches and competitive sport can take place. An Athletics track, Fitness Centre, Tennis Courts and Swimming pool provide opportunities for our community and promotes wellbeing for students and staff. 6 Support Services provided by the School The Telford Priory School provides a comprehensive support service for the benefit of all students and parents.
