    Admissions Policy for Accrington Academy Preamble: 1. This document sets out the proposed arrangements for Accrington Academy, throughout this document referred to as “the Academy”. These arrangements are without prejudice to the provisions of Annex B to the Master Agreement. The document forms an annex to the Supplemental Agreement between United Learning Trust (‘ULT’) and the Secretary of State. References in this document to “parents” include guardians and carers. 2. The Academy will comply with all relevant provisions of the statutory codes on admissions (the School Admissions Code and the School Admission Appeals Code of Practice) as they apply at any given time to maintained schools and with the law on admissions as it applies to maintained schools. Reference in the codes to admission authorities shall be deemed to be references to ULT. References to “the LA” shall be deemed to be references to Lancashire County Council and references to “the Admissions Forum” to be to the Lancashire admissions Forum. In particular, the Academy will take part in the Admissions Forum set up by the LA and have regard to its advice; and will participate in the co-ordinated admission arrangements operated by the LA. 3. Notwithstanding these arrangements, the Secretary of State may direct the Academy to admit a named pupil to the Academy on application from an LA. Before doing so the Secretary of State will consult the Academy. Admission Arrangements to be Approved by Secretary of State 4. The admission arrangements for the Academy, subject to any changes approved by the Secretary of State, are: a) The Academy has an agreed admission number of 200 students.

Star Students Plus much more! PAGE 2 The Central School of Ballet On Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 April, we were lucky enough to welcome The Central School of Ballet here at the Academy once again. On Monday they delivered workshops to Elmore Green Primary School, Red Hill Primary Academy, Sandwell Academy and our own students during Session 3. On Tuesday morning they continued to deliver workshops to St Peter’s Primary School and Thomas Telford School. For the afternoon we were joined by Robert Maclean and Governor Stewart Roberts and were treated to a wonderful event of Ballet Central students sharing performance work that they are currently touring, and following this a Question and Answer session where we were able to gather information about their training and careers. The two-day event was an amazing experience for all to be involved in. Celebration of Dance On Tuesday 25 June we hosted the annual Celebration of Dance here at the Academy. The evening consisted of students from Year 2 up to Year 12 and was a wonderful sharing of performances from all schools involved. It was fantastic for the younger students to see the older students perform and show them what they could progress onto in the future of Dance.

    Making a mark: art, craft and design education 2008/11 This report evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of art, craft and design education in schools and colleges in England. It is based principally on subject inspections of 96 primary schools, 91 secondary schools and seven special schools between 2008 and 2011. This includes five visits in each phase to focus on an aspect of good practice. Gartree High School is one of five high schools within Leicestershire built with a form of construction known as “Intergrid”. This building method dates back from the late 1950’s and has been assessed by the Building Research Establishment as providing a lifespan of approximately 50 years. Description of Proposal 2. The application site is located to the south of Oadby, on the southern side of Ridgeway and Howdon Road within the urban area. To the north of Ridgeway are residential properties looking onto the site. Along Howdon Road lies Devonshire Court, a elderly persons care home. Gartree is the middle of three adjoining campuses, with The Beauchamp College (14-19 year olds) to the east, and Brocks Hill Primary School (4-10 year olds) to the west. To the south of the sites is the open countryside (including land identified in the Green Wedge).
