The Americas Research and Education Networks (AMREN)

Research and Education Networks in the Americas support their communities through powerful strategic, technical and community- driven collaborations that support groundbreaking research and education that benefits students, faculty, researchers and communities across North and South America.

CANARIE, , and RedCLARA have partnered to highlight the role of Research and Education Networks in the Americas (the AMREN), which collectively connect over 3,100 institutions in the Americas.

These purpose-built networks support large data streams that are the foundation for leading-edge research and discovery, and support the needs of a wide range of educational institutions. As the AMREN is driven by the needs of their communities and immersed in the high- technology sector, they are ever-evolving infrastructures that support the universal human need to discover, learn, and improve.

Fast Facts about the AMREN:

Collectively, over 88,500 km of fibre optic cable connecting 3,175 institutions

All research disciplines supported, but the AMREN is critical to supporting astronomy, health care, and climate change research, given the large data sets involved, scientific instruments distributed across the Americas, and the ethos of ongoing collaboration among research teams

The AMREN offers over 60 services that enable researchers to accelerate the path to discovery
