In the domains of both Morphology and Taxonomy the study' of Insect genitalia has evoked considerable interest during the past half century. Zander (1900, 1901, 1903) suggested a common structural plan for the genitalia in various orders of insects. This work stimulated further research and his conclusions were amplified by Crampton (1920) who homologized the different parts in the genitalia of Hymenoptera, Mecoptera, Neuroptera, Diptera, Trichoptera Lepidoptera, Hemiptera and Strepsiptera with those of more generalized insects like the Ephe meroptera and Thysanura. During this time the use of genitalic charac ters for taxonomic purposes was also realized particularly in cases where the other imaginal characters had failed to serve. In this con nection may be mentioned the work of Buchanan White (1876), Gosse (1883), Bethune Baker (1914), Pierce (1909, 1914, 1922) and others. Also, a comparative account of the genitalia, as a basis for the phylo genetic study of different insect orders, was employed by Walker (1919), Sharp and Muir (1912), Singh-Pruthi (1925) and Cole (1927), in Orthop tera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera and the Diptera respectively. It is sur prising, work of this nature having been found so useful in these groups, that an important order like the Lepidoptera should have escaped careful analysis at the hands of the morphologists. -

E-mail: [email protected], [email protected], dina. [email protected], [email protected] BIOLOGICAL AND ECOLOGICAL FEATURES OF THE SAXAUL-EATING SHEEPSHANKS (COLEOPHORIDAE) Abstract. Within pests (insects), Lepidoptera, by species composition and harmfulness, are in the front row. As you know, one of the biogenic factors in nature, they have a serious impact on the yield of natural pasture grasses and saxaul. They feed on leaves, stems, roots, flowers and seeds of plants, and prevent the reproduction of saxaul. In this regard, it is now necessary to study the biological characteristics of shells that feed on saxaul, determine the phenology, harmfulness, and organize measures to protect against pests. For many reasons (seed production, agricultural engineering, etc.), it is connected with the fact that in the desert zone of South-Eastern and southern Kazakhstan, issues of increasing the area of the saxaul and protecting it from pests are being solved. One of the main reasons is an incomplete study of the species composition of insects-insects that feed on saxaul. -

GADALLAH & Hassan GHAHARI Abstract The present work comprises a comprehensive faunistic catalogue of the Braconinae collected and recorded from the different localities of Iran over the past fifty years. It includes 115 species and subspecies in 11 genera (Atanycolus FÖRSTER, Baryproctus ASHMEAD, Bracon FABRICIUS, Coeloides WESMAEL, Glyptomorpha HOLMGREN, Habrobracon ASHMEAD, Iphiaulax FOERSTER, Megalommum SZÉPLIGETI, Pseudovipio SZÉPLIGETI, Rhadinobracon SZÉPLIGETI and Vipio LATREILLE) and four tribes (Aphrastobraconini, Braconini, Coeloidini, Glyptomorphini). Synonymies, distribution and host data are given. Key words: Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Braconinae, catalogue, Iran. Introduction Braconinae is a large subfamily of cyclostomes group of parasitic wasps in the family Braconidae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonoidea). They constitute more than 2900 described species that are mostly tropical and subtropical (YU et al. 2012). Members of this subfamily are often black, red, orange and/or white in colours. They are small to medium-sized insects, characterized by their concave labrum, absence of epicnemial carina, absence of occipital carina, females have extended ovipositor (SHARKEY 1993). -

Species are arranged alphabetically by taxonomic group, then by scientific name. The common name, where one exists, is given in brackets, followed by the date or approximate date of loss – if date is known. Dates preceded by a ‘c’ are approximate. Foreword No one knows exactly when the last Ivell’s sea anemone died. Its final known site in the world was a small brackish lagoon near Chichester on the south coast of England. When the last individual at this site died, probably in the 1980s, the species was lost forever: a global extinction event, in England, on our watch. We live in a small country blessed with a rich variety of wildlife – one in which the natural world is widely appreciated, and studied as intensely as anywhere in the world. Today this variety of life is under pressure from human activities as never before. As a result, many of our native species, from the iconic red squirrel to the much less familiar bearded stonewort, are in a fight for survival. -

Lotfalizadeh, E-mail: [email protected] Received: 7. June 2013 / Accepted: 20. July 2013 / Available online: 31. January 2014 / Printed: December 2014 Abstract. The seeds of Sophora alopecuroides L. (Legominosae) are damaged by Etiella zinckenella (Treitschke) (Lep.: Pyralidae) in East-Azarbaijan, northwestern Iran. Laboratory rearing of seeds infested E. zinckenella produced six chalcidoid species. These species are from the family Eulophidae: Aprostocetus arrabonicus (Erdös), Elasmus biroi Erdös, Elasmus platyedrae Ferrière; Eurytomidae: Aximopsis augasmae (Zerova) Comb. n., Aximopsis near ghazvini (Zerova) Comb. n.; and Pteromalidae: Cyrtoptyx lichtensteini (Masi). All of these species are new records for Iran. Associations of A. arrabonicus, E. biroi, E. platyedrae, A. augasmae and A. near ghazvini with E. zinckenella are new, and furthermore, A. arrabonicus may be a hyperparasitoid of E. zinckenella.
