Abstract A list of 436 species of micro-moth recorded from the area around Dombóvár-Gunaras (Tolna County, SW Hungary) is presented. Most of the material is from light traps, and several rarities have been found personally by Arnold Schreurs and Imre Fazekas between 1985 and 2009. Faunistic and biological notes on 35 species are given. Structure of genitalia and morphological characteristics of wings are illustrated with figures. Specimens are deposited in the private collections of Arnold Schreurs (NL), Willy Biesenbaum (D) and in the collection of Regiograf Institute (H). One species, Coleophora alnifoliae Barasch, 1934 is new to the fauna of Hungary. 14 species of Microlepidoptera are recorded as new to the fauna of the Transdanubian Hills: Borkhausenia fuscescens (Haworth, 1828) (Oecophoridae), Coleophora pseudorepentis Toll, 1960 (Coleophoridae), C. artemisicolella Bruand, 1855 (Coleophoridae), C. onobrychiella Zeller, 1849 (Coleophoridae), Sorhagenia lophyrella (Douglas, 1846) (Cosmopterigidae), Aristotelia subdecurtella (Stainton, 1858) (Gelechiidae), Caryocolum blandulella (Tutt, 1887) (Gelechiidae), Gynnidomorpha alismana (Ragonot, 1883) (Tortricidae), Apotomis betuletana (Haworth, 1811) (Tortricidae), Eucosma flavispecula Kuznetzov, 1964 (Tortricidae), Pammene regiana regiana (Zeller, 1849) (Tortricidae), P. aurita Razowski, 1992 (Tortricidae), Phycitodes inquinatella exustella (Ragonot, 1888) (Pyralidae) and Catoptria permutatella (Herrich-Schäffer, 1848) (Crambidae). Introduction It would be hard to find another wonderful land such as the Tolna County, where con- tinental and submediterranean characteristics are unified in a harmony. According to PA P (2007) Tolna is one of the most varied and controversial counties in Hungary. Evaluations of the country are highly contrastive. The duality of poverty and economic power, back- wardness and a rich cultural heritage, easily accessible, pleasant settlements as well as increasing migration, availability of resources and favourable local conditions versus a lack of their utilisation are all characteristic features of Tolna. Dombóvár, the second largest town in Tolna County, is 29 km from Kaposvár and 45 km from Pécs on the boundaries of three counties, Tolna, Somogy and Baranya. Gunaras, a town which is famous for its spa, is located 5 km from Dombóvár; the thermal waters ________________________________________ ISSN 1587-1908 (Print); ISSN 2062-9990 (Online) 274 NATURA SOMOGY I ENS I S were discovered here in the 1960’s, and the first bathing facilities were built in the 1980’s. Nowadays it is not only a comfortable spa, but also the only rehabilitation centre in the region. The water contains fluoride and alkali-hydrogen-carbonic, thus it is most- ly recommended for those who have some kind of motor disease, stomach or enteric problems or some illness of the mouth, heart or blood-system. Scientists from Hungary and other European countries noticed the special biogeo- graphical features of the Tolna County from as early as the 19th century. In the 20th century, famous botanists and zoologists travelled through the region. A series of small- er and larger zoological publications were published in Hungarian, Austrian and German scientific reviews. As a result, the name of Tolna County became generally known in Europe. However, there was no systematic research undertaken in this geographical area until now. The history of lepidopterological investigation of the Tolna County goes back to the collecting activity of PI LL I CH (1914) of Simontornya. In accordance with the usual practice of that period, he unfortunately failed to label his material, and the nomenclature he applied gave rise to several misinterpretations. More recently, additional data on micro-moths and butterflies of the area have appeared in other short publications (FARKAS 1992; FAZEKAS 1992, 2001b, 2008b, PI LL I CH 1914). This study presents a list of 436 Microlepidoptera species recorded from the area around Dombóvár–Gunaras (SW Hungary, Tolna County; see Fig. 1.). The account is based on material collected mainly by Arnold Schreurs (NL-Kerkade) and Willy Biesenbaum (D-Velbert-Langenberg), which is deposited in Regiograf Institute, H-Komló, and on the above-mentioned literature sources. The bulk of the information available is the result of research by Arnold Schreurs. The arrangement of the species is based on the classification still followed in Hungarian Microlepidoptera literature (FAZEKAS 2002, PASTORÁL I S 2010). Ornixola caudulatella (Zeller, 1839) (Gracillariidae) – Material examined: Dombóvár, Gunaras, 1♀,12-23.07. 1999; 1♂, 15.06.2003; 2♀, 13-23.06.2006. Very local and rare on the Southern-Transdanubia: Diósviszló, Fonyód, Gyűrűfű, Kaposvár and Pécs (Fa z e k a s 2001, 2002; sz e ő k e 2009). Larva oligophagous. Foodplants in Hungary: Salix spp.. The moth is bivoltine and flies May-June and July-August. Habitats: willow and birch mire woodlands, riverine willow-poplar woodlands, riverine ash-alder woodlands. Generally rare and local in Hungary. Elachista alpinella Stainton, 1854 (Elachistidae) – Material examined: Dombóvár, Gunaras, 2♂, 1-15.08.1997; 2♂, 25-31.08.1998; 1♂, 26.07-7.08. 2008, det. W. Biesenbaum. Rare species with very isolated populations in Hungary. The data in the literature are vague. Sporadic records of distribution from Hungary: – “Budapest, 1912.V.13., leg. Uhrik”, in coll., HNHM (Szőcs 1973); “Pécs, 1955.V.31., leg. Nattán” (FAZEKAS 2002; SZABÓKY 1983: in coll. Nattán, JPM); Agárd, Dinnyés (PETR I CH 2001). There are no verified records of E. alpinella from the Great Hungarian Plain and it is not recorded from western Hungary. Widespread in the western and northern parts of Europe. Larva oligophagous on Carex spp., and overwinters in the mine. Scythris sinensis Felder & Rogenhofer, 1875 (Scythrididae) – According to FAZEKAS (2008b) the specimen studied is deposited in the collection of Arnold Schreurs (Netherlands): Hungary, Dombóvár, Gunaras, 10.06.2006, leg. A. Schreurs; N 46°23’49.95”, E 18°10’49.11”; 10 x 10 km UTM grid code: BS 84; altitude 116 m. The Dombóvár (Gunaras) locality lies a distance of more than 150 km from the old localities in Central Hungary (Tápióság). The habitat an old, abandoned rail track in agricultural country ain which there are some industrial areas. Typical habitats of the species in Hungary are places with industrial, commercial and agricultural ruderal sites. First recorded from Central Hungary (Tápióság): this specimen was found in a house; it is sooty-black, lacking the yellow spot on the forewing. Altogether, two specimens are now known from Hungary. The larva feeds on Chenopodium album. Moths have been col- lected in May and July. It is known to occur in Great Britain, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belorussia, Ukraine and Moldova and outside Europe in C. Russia, S. Siberia, E. Asia, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Scythris Hübner, 1825, the largest genus in the fam- ily Scythrididae, contains more than 30 species in Hungary. Borkhausenia fuscescens (Haworth, 1828) (Oecophoridae) – Material examined: Dombóvár, Gunaras, 2♂, 14-28.07.2007. New to the fauna of the Transdanubian Hills. According to GOZMÁNY (1958) only collected in western Hungary areas (Transdanubia). Known also from the sand region of the Kiskunság: two specimens taken at light in Ócsa (GOZMÁNY , SZABÓKY 1986). The larvae feed on a wide range of dried plant matter such as dead leaves and birds' nests, normally within a silken tube (KI MBER 2010). Moth col- lected in July and August. Epicallima bruandella (Ragonot, 1889) (Oecophoridae) – Material examined: Dombóvár, Gunaras, 1♀, 1-18.08.1992. – The species has been reported in Southern Transdanubia from only two localities (FAZEKAS 2002): Baranya County, Villányi-Hills (Szársomlyó). The species occurs in white oak scrub woodlands and calcareous open rock grasslands (Sedo sopianae–Festucetum dalmaticae); Kaposvár. Sporadically dis- tributed in Hungary: Budapest, Kaposvár,

The list comprises 116 species of Noctuidae (26.4% of the Polish fauna), 116 species of Geometridae (28.4% of the Polish fauna) and 63 species of other Macrolepidoptera representatives (27.9% of the Polish fauna). The remaining 123 species were represented by Microlepidoptera. Nearly 10% of the species were associated with wetland habitats, what constitutes a surprisingly large proportion in such an urbanised area. Comparing the obtained data with previous studies concerning Polish urban fauna of Lepidoptera, the moths assemblages in the Botanical Garden were the most similar to the one from the Natolin Forest Reserve which protects the legacy of Mazovian forests. Several recorded moths appertain to locally and rarely encountered species, as Stegania cararia, Melanthia procellata, Pasiphila chloerata, Eupithecia haworthiata, Horisme corticata, Xylomoia graminea, Polychrysia moneta. In the light of the conducted studies, the Botanical Garden in Lublin stands out as quite high biodiversity and can be regarded as a refuge for moths within the urban limits of Lublin.

    FRIENDS OF WEST HUNSBURY PARKS BIOLOGICAL SURVEYS AT HUNSBURY HILL COUNTRY PARK 2018 Ryan Clark Northamptonshire Biodiversity Records Centre April 2019 Northamptonshire Biodiversity Records Centre Introduction Biological records tell us which species are present on sites and are essential in informing the conservation and management of wildlife. In 2018, the Northamptonshire Biodiversity Records Centre ran a number of events to encourage biological recording at Hunsbury Hill Fort as part of the Friends of West Hunsbury Park’s project, which is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Hunsbury Hill Country Park is designated as a Local Wildlife Site (LWS). There are approximately 700 Local Wildlife Sites in Northamptonshire. Local Wildlife Sites create a network of areas, which are important as refuges for wildlife or wildlife corridors. Hunsbury Hill Country Park was designated as a LWS in 1992 for its woodland flora and the variety of habitats that the site possesses. The site also has a Local Geological Site (LGS) which highlights the importance of this site for its geology as well as biodiversity. This will be surveyed by the local geological group in due course. Hunsbury Hill Country Park Local Wildlife Site Boundary 1 Northamptonshire Biodiversity Records Centre (NBRC) supports the recording, curation and sharing of quality verified environmental information for sound decision-making. We hold nearly a million biological records covering a variety of different species groups. Before the start of this project, we looked to see which species had been recorded at the site. We were surprised to find that the only records we have for the site have come from Local Wildlife Site Surveys, which assess the quality of the site and focus on vascular plants, with some casual observations of other species noted too.

On August 27th, 2020 one specimen of Psorosa mediterranella (Amsel, 1954) from the family Pyralidae was collected on a small meadow (985 m a.s.l.) on Mt Biok- ovo. In this paper, the first data about the occurrence of this species in Croatia are presented. The previ- ous mention in the literature for Croatia was considered to be a misidentification of the past and has thus not been included in the checklist of Croatian pyraloid moth species. P. mediterranella was recorded for the first time in Croatia in recent investigations and, after other additions to the checklist have been counted, is the 396th species in the Croatian pyraloid moth fauna. An overview of the overall pyraloid moth fauna of Croatia is given in the updated species list. INTRODUCTION Early tortricid workers such as HAWORTH (1811), HERRICH-SCHHÄFFER (1856), and others pre- sented the first terminology for forewing pattern elements in their descriptions of new species. Nearly a century later, SÜFFERT (1929) provided a more eclectic discussion of pattern elements for Lepidoptera in general. In recent decades, the common and repeated use of specific terms in de- scriptions and illustrations by FALKOVITSH (1966), DANILEVSKY and KUZNETZOV (1968), and oth- ers reinforced these terms in Tortricidae. BRADLEY et al. (1973) summarized and commented on all the English terms used to describe forewing pattern elements. DANILEVSKY and KUZNETZOV (1968) and KUZNETZOV (1978) analyzed tortricid pattern elements, primarily Olethreutinae, dem- onstrating the taxonomic significance of the costal strigulae in that subfamily. For practical pur- poses they numbered the strigulae from the forewing apex to the base, where the strigulae often become indistinct. KUZNETZOV (1978) named the following forewing elements in Tortricinae: ba- sal fascia, subterminal fascia, outer fascia (comprised of subapical blotch and outer blotch), apical spot, and marginal line situated in the marginal fascia (a component of the ground colour).

Maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analysis of mitochondrial DNA barcodes both recover four well-supported, reciprocally monophyletic groups within Anania coronata. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of genital structures reveal diagnostic differences that correspond to the four barcode lineages. On the basis of both molecular and morphological evidence, we conclude that Anania coronata is actually a complex of four species.

The main objectives of the protection are acidophilous oak forest and maple-linden slope forest being habitats of many rare species of moths and lacewings known from not numerous localities in Poland. Out of them, the populations of two unique in native lepidopteran fauna, saproxylic and phytosaprophagous species: Alabonia staintoniella (ZELL.) and Zanclognatha zelleralis (WCK.), are preserved here at their northernmost locality in Europe. Obiektem badań były tu wybrane rodziny chrząszczy (Coleoptera) (KUŚ- KA 1998; MAZUR 2008) i szczególnie pluskwiaki różnoskrzydłe (Heteropte- ra) (LIS B., LIS J. A. 2002; HEBDA, LIS 2007), a w ostatnim dziesięcioleciu także motyle (Lepidoptera) i owady siatkoskrzydłe (Neuroptera), będące obecnie w końcowej fazie opracowania (dane własne autora). To the fauna of Pyralid and Crambid moths (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae, Crambidae) of Rostov-on-Don Province. SUMMARY. Since 1978, during day- and night-time moth monitoring in Rostov-on-Don Province, 5397 ex. of 137 species Pyralidae and Crambidae were collected in 36 localities. Preliminary studies of S.N. Alpheraky [Алфера- ки, 1876] represented 63 species. The total list now includes 157 species of both families. Two species of Pyralidae (Phycitinae), Pempelia amoenella (Zeller, 1848) and Metallosticha argyrogrammos (Zeller, 1847), re reported from Russia for the first time. The most common and mass species are: Nomophila noctuella ([Den. & Schiff.]), Etiella zinckenella (Tr.), Aporodes floralis (Hb.), Euchromius ocellea (Hw.), Actenia brunnealis (Tr.), Homoeosoma nimbella (Dup.), Mecyna flavalis ([Den. & Schiff.]), Synaphe moldavica (Esp.), Pediasia luteella ([Den. & Schiff.]), Lamoria anella ([Den. & Schiff.]), Endotricha flammealis ([Den. & Schiff.]), Parapoynx stratiotata (L.), Hypsopygia costalis (F.), Calamotropha paludella (Hb.), Thisanotia chrysonuchella (Scop.), Agriphila tristella ([Den. & Schiff.]). Введение Для Ростовской области известен единственный список огнёвок, включающий 63 вида [Ал- фераки, 1876], причем часть указаний нуждается в уточнении. Особую актуальность изучение региональной фауны огнёвок имеет в связи с тем, что эта группа представляет весомую часть биоразнообразия, включает значительное число угрожаемых видов и индикаторов малонару- шенных природных комплексов [Большаков, 1999].

  • Nachtvlinderonderzoek in De Wassenaarse Duinen
    Nachtvlinderonderzoek in de Wassenaarse duinen Wouter Moerland Neeltje van Zuytbrouckhof 50 2311 WD Leiden [email protected] In de duinen bij Wassenaar worden sinds 2004 nachtvlinders gevangen. De eerste vlinderinventarisaties vonden plaats als onderdeel van de veldcursus ‘dierecologie’ aan de Leidse universiteit. Tegenwoordig zijn er particuliere initiatieven, zoals excursies van de NJN of de Leidse biologenclub. Kleinschalig vlinder- onderzoek toonde al de aanzienlijke vlinderdiversiteit in de Hollandse duinen: resultaten tot 2006 wor- den gepresenteerd door Van Alphen (2006). Sindsdien is het onderzoek voortgezet, met enkele grote inventarisaties. In juli 2007 en 2008 is in verband met de toen nieuwe website www.microlepidoptera.nl de omgeving van veldstation De Klip grondig bemonsterd. Ook buiten dit ‘vlinderhoogseizoen’ is volop gevlinderd, van maart tot in de december. Op basis van deze aanvullende vangsten presenteert dit artikel een herziene en geactualiseerde soortenlijst van nachtvlinders. Het geeft een overzicht van de resultaten van zeven jaar nachtvlinderen in de Wassenaarse duinen. Onderzoek naar nachtvlinders Vlinders (Lepidoptera) vormen in Nederland een diverse groep insecten: ongeveer 2200 soorten zijn er gevestigd (Noordijk et al. 2010). Een niet-wetenschappelijk maar pragmatisch onderscheid wordt gemaakt tussen de ‘grote’ en ‘kleine’ vlinders. Een derde van die 2200 soorten wordt gerekend tot die grote vlinders, de macrolepidoptera (macro’s), inclusief dagvlinders. Het overige deel, de kleine vlinders, wordt microlepidoptera (micro’s) genoemd. Alle vlinders die niet tot de dagvlinders worden gerekend, bestempelt men als nachtvlinders. Figuur 1.
