In the domains of both Morphology and Taxonomy the study' of Insect genitalia has evoked considerable interest during the past half century. Zander (1900, 1901, 1903) suggested a common structural plan for the genitalia in various orders of insects. This work stimulated further research and his conclusions were amplified by Crampton (1920) who homologized the different parts in the genitalia of Hymenoptera, Mecoptera, Neuroptera, Diptera, Trichoptera Lepidoptera, Hemiptera and Strepsiptera with those of more generalized insects like the Ephe meroptera and Thysanura. During this time the use of genitalic charac ters for taxonomic purposes was also realized particularly in cases where the other imaginal characters had failed to serve. In this con nection may be mentioned the work of Buchanan White (1876), Gosse (1883), Bethune Baker (1914), Pierce (1909, 1914, 1922) and others. Also, a comparative account of the genitalia, as a basis for the phylo genetic study of different insect orders, was employed by Walker (1919), Sharp and Muir (1912), Singh-Pruthi (1925) and Cole (1927), in Orthop tera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera and the Diptera respectively. It is sur prising, work of this nature having been found so useful in these groups, that an important order like the Lepidoptera should have escaped careful analysis at the hands of the morphologists. -

Within pests (insects), Lepidoptera, by species composition and harmfulness, are in the front row. As you know, one of the biogenic factors in nature, they have a serious impact on the yield of natural pasture grasses and saxaul. They feed on leaves, stems, roots, flowers and seeds of plants, and prevent the reproduction of saxaul. In this regard, it is now necessary to study the biological characteristics of shells that feed on saxaul, determine the phenology, harmfulness, and organize measures to protect against pests. For many reasons (seed production, agricultural engineering, etc.), it is connected with the fact that in the desert zone of South-Eastern and southern Kazakhstan, issues of increasing the area of the saxaul and protecting it from pests are being solved. One of the main reasons is an incomplete study of the species composition of insects-insects that feed on saxaul. -

GADALLAH & Hassan GHAHARI Abstract The present work comprises a comprehensive faunistic catalogue of the Braconinae collected and recorded from the different localities of Iran over the past fifty years. It includes 115 species and subspecies in 11 genera (Atanycolus FÖRSTER, Baryproctus ASHMEAD, Bracon FABRICIUS, Coeloides WESMAEL, Glyptomorpha HOLMGREN, Habrobracon ASHMEAD, Iphiaulax FOERSTER, Megalommum SZÉPLIGETI, Pseudovipio SZÉPLIGETI, Rhadinobracon SZÉPLIGETI and Vipio LATREILLE) and four tribes (Aphrastobraconini, Braconini, Coeloidini, Glyptomorphini). Introduction Braconinae is a large subfamily of cyclostomes group of parasitic wasps in the family Braconidae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonoidea). They constitute more than 2900 described species that are mostly tropical and subtropical (YU et al. 2012). Members of this subfamily are often black, red, orange and/or white in colours. They are small to medium-sized insects, characterized by their concave labrum, absence of epicnemial carina, absence of occipital carina, females have extended ovipositor (SHARKEY 1993). -

Lotfalizadeh, E-mail: [email protected] Received: 7. June 2013 / Accepted: 20. July 2013 / Available online: 31. January 2014 / Printed: December 2014 Abstract. The seeds of Sophora alopecuroides L. (Legominosae) are damaged by Etiella zinckenella (Treitschke) (Lep.: Pyralidae) in East-Azarbaijan, northwestern Iran. Laboratory rearing of seeds infested E. zinckenella produced six chalcidoid species. These species are from the family Eulophidae: Aprostocetus arrabonicus (Erdös), Elasmus biroi Erdös, Elasmus platyedrae Ferrière; Eurytomidae: Aximopsis augasmae (Zerova) Comb. n., Aximopsis near ghazvini (Zerova) Comb. n.; and Pteromalidae: Cyrtoptyx lichtensteini (Masi). All of these species are new records for Iran. Associations of A. arrabonicus, E. biroi, E. platyedrae, A. augasmae and A. near ghazvini with E. zinckenella are new, and furthermore, A. arrabonicus may be a hyperparasitoid of E. zinckenella. © Autonome Provinz Bozen, Abteilung Forstwirtschaft, download unter www.biologiezentrum.at forest observer vol. 5 2010 207 - 328 Pflanzengallen und Gallenkunde – Plant Galls and Cecidology Klaus Hellrigl Abstract: Plant Galls and Cecidology The present paper on Plant Galls and Cecidology in South Tyrol constitutes the supplementary General Part to the Special Part on the indigenous gall-wasps and their galls, published last year (HELLRI G L 2008). Whereas the special part dealt mainly with the biodiversity, variety of forms of gall-wasps galls and their faunistic distribution in our region, the present general part concentrates on basic questions, such as the induction and formation of galls, host-plant association, survey and quantification of the various indigenous gall inducers. Questions on the development of the single gall inducers, and the circumstances of alternation of generations and hosts, are also discussed. The Author further explains the historical development and economical significance of cecidology as well as the mutual relations between the main actors, especially between the 17 th and 19 th Centuries. This General Part treats not only the gall-wasps and their galls (Hymenoptera, Cynipidae), but also other galls caused by animals (Nematodes & Arthropods). This basic procedure is also maintained with regard to the historical record of plant galls in Tyrol, with a numeric survey in the last section. The record for South Tyrol reveals a quantity of some 700 plant galls induced by animals (Zoocecidia – Cecidozoa). Of these, the following have been recorded so far: gall-mites (115), gall-midges (280), gall-wasps (50 -70), Sawflies (20), Homoptera Sternorrhyncha (105), beetles (60), butterflies (10), others (25-40). -
