Currently, over than 1400 species and 78 genera are recognized as valid (Noyes, 2011). Most of eurytomids are primary parasitoids or hyperparasitoids on wide range of insect hosts, but the larvae of other species are phytophagous (gall-inducers, inquilines or seed-feeders). Chalcid wasps of the family Torymidae Walker, 1833 number more than 960 species belonging to 73 genera and have worldwide distribution (Noyes, 2011). Torymids are predominantly parasitoids, but approximately 1/6 of the species are phytophagous (inquilines in galls or seed-feeders associated with coniferous trees and rosaceous plants) (Grissell, 1995). The Turkish eurytomid and torymid fauna are not well known. Seventy five eurytomid and 53 torymid species were published before the present investigation. Investigations on Eurytomidae in Turkey were started by Bouček (1952) with description of a new species (Macrorileya femorata (Boucek, 1952)), but more intensive taxonomic and faunistic studies were carried out in the last 10 years of the 20th century (Doğanlar, 1990; Zerova & Fursov, 1991; Narendran et al., 1995; Doğanlar & Çam, 1991; Bayram et al., 1998, 1999). A few eurytomids have been included in catalogues (OILB, 1971; Öncüer, 1991; Askew et al., 2006). Zerova et al. (2003), Doğanlar & Bolu (2004), Çobanoğlu & Doğanlar (2006), Sertkaya et al. (2006) also contributed to Eurytomidae fauna with description of new species and some regional studies. The first record of Torymidae from Turkey is given by Novitzky (1954). Later, many authors recorded additional species to the Turkish fauna (Çanakçioglu, 1959, 1969, 1990; Özkazanç, 1982; Doğanlar, 1982, 1984, 1989a, 1989b; Öncüer, 1991; Bayram et al., 1998, 1999). The faunistic and taxonomic papers dealing with Torymidae family in Turkey have accumulated rapidly in recent years (Gençer, 2003; Roques & Skrzypczynska, 2003; Askew et al., 2004, 2006; Delvare, 2005; Doğanlar & Karadağ, 2008; Doğanlar & Doğanlar, 2008, 2009; Tarla et al., 2010; Doğanlar, 2011a, b). The aim of this paper is to present checklists of Turkish Eurytomidae and Torymidae on the basis of published data and new records. Material and Methods The published data on Eurytomidae and Torymidae families in Turkey are summarized. The checklists comprise the following data: the valid taxon name, published records, and synonyms in records. Valid names are given according to Noyes (2011), Lotfalizadeh et al. (2007) and Grissell (1996). The specimens were collected between 2006 and 2008 in different regions of the country, mainly by sweeping. Some specimens were reared at laboratory conditions from galls on different plants and one species was collected by using Malaise trap. The material is reserved in the authors’ collections at the University of Plovdiv and Muğla University. Results In this study, 82 species belonging to nine genera of Eurytomidae and 62 species belonging to eighteen genera of Torymidae were presented. Sixteen of listed species, 7 species of Eurytomidae and 9 species of Torymidae, are new records for the Turkish fauna. New records are presented alphabetically with their distribution in Turkey. COMPARATIVE MORPHOLOGY OF THE MALE GENITALIA IN LEPIDOPTERA. By DEV RAJ MEHTA, M. Sc.~ Ph. D. Introduction 197 Historical Review 199 Technique. 201 N ontenclature 201 Function • 205 Comparative Morphology 206 Conclusions in Phylogeny 257 Summary 261 Literature 1 262 INTRODUCTION. In the domains of both Morphology and Taxonomy the study' of Insect genitalia has evoked considerable interest during the past half century. Zander (1900, 1901, 1903) suggested a common structural plan for the genitalia in various orders of insects. This work stimulated further research and his conclusions were amplified by Crampton (1920) who homologized the different parts in the genitalia of Hymenoptera, Mecoptera, Neuroptera, Diptera, Trichoptera Lepidoptera, Hemiptera and Strepsiptera with those of more generalized insects like the Ephe meroptera and Thysanura. During this time the use of genitalic charac ters for taxonomic purposes was also realized particularly in cases where the other imaginal characters had failed to serve. In this con nection may be mentioned the work of Buchanan White (1876), Gosse (1883), Bethune Baker (1914), Pierce (1909, 1914, 1922) and others. Also, a comparative account of the genitalia, as a basis for the phylo genetic study of different insect orders, was employed by Walker (1919), Sharp and Muir (1912), Singh-Pruthi (1925) and Cole (1927), in Orthop tera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera and the Diptera respectively. It is sur prising, work of this nature having been found so useful in these groups, that an important order like the Lepidoptera should have escaped careful analysis at the hands of the morphologists.

Within pests (insects), Lepidoptera, by species composition and harmfulness, are in the front row. As you know, one of the biogenic factors in nature, they have a serious impact on the yield of natural pasture grasses and saxaul. They feed on leaves, stems, roots, flowers and seeds of plants, and prevent the reproduction of saxaul. In this regard, it is now necessary to study the biological characteristics of shells that feed on saxaul, determine the phenology, harmfulness, and organize measures to protect against pests. For many reasons (seed production, agricultural engineering, etc.), it is connected with the fact that in the desert zone of South-Eastern and southern Kazakhstan, issues of increasing the area of the saxaul and protecting it from pests are being solved. One of the main reasons is an incomplete study of the species composition of insects-insects that feed on saxaul.

(Legominosae) are damaged by Etiella zinckenella (Treitschke) (Lep.: Pyralidae) in East-Azarbaijan, northwestern Iran. Laboratory rearing of seeds infested E. zinckenella produced six chalcidoid species. These species are from the family Eulophidae: Aprostocetus arrabonicus (Erdös), Elasmus biroi Erdös, Elasmus platyedrae Ferrière; Eurytomidae: Aximopsis augasmae (Zerova) Comb. n., Aximopsis near ghazvini (Zerova) Comb. n.; and Pteromalidae: Cyrtoptyx lichtensteini (Masi). All of these species are new records for Iran. Associations of A. arrabonicus, E. biroi, E. platyedrae, A. augasmae and A. near ghazvini with E. zinckenella are new, and furthermore, A. arrabonicus may be a hyperparasitoid of E. zinckenella. Key words: Sophora alopecuroides, Etiella zinckenella, chalcidoid parasitoids, new records, Iran. Introduction tribution, a study of its parasitoids in Iran is desir- able. Therefore, this study

  • Pflanzengallen Und Gallenkunde – Plant Galls and Cecidology
© Autonome Provinz Bozen, Abteilung Forstwirtschaft, download unter www.biologiezentrum.at forest observer vol. 5 2010 207 - 328 Pflanzengallen und Gallenkunde – Plant Galls and Cecidology Klaus Hellrigl Abstract: Plant Galls and Cecidology The present paper on Plant Galls and Cecidology in South Tyrol constitutes the supplementary General Part to the Special Part on the indigenous gall-wasps and their galls, published last year (HELLRI G L 2008). Whereas the special part dealt mainly with the biodiversity, variety of forms of gall-wasps galls and their faunistic distribution in our region, the present general part concentrates on basic questions, such as the induction and formation of galls, host-plant association, survey and quantification of the various indigenous gall inducers. Questions on the development of the single gall inducers, and the circumstances of alternation of generations and hosts, are also discussed. The Author further explains the historical development and economical significance of cecidology as well as the mutual relations between the main actors, especially between the 17 th and 19 th Centuries. This General Part treats not only the gall-wasps and their galls (Hymenoptera, Cynipidae), but also other galls caused by animals (Nematodes & Arthropods). This basic procedure is also maintained with regard to the historical record of plant galls in Tyrol, with a numeric survey in the last section. The record for South Tyrol reveals a quantity of some 700 plant galls induced by animals (Zoocecidia – Cecidozoa). Of these, the following have been recorded so far: gall-mites (115), gall-midges (280), gall-wasps (50 -70), Sawflies (20), Homoptera Sternorrhyncha (105), beetles (60), butterflies (10), others (25-40).

NOTICE. " As the Introduction to my " Monograph of the Trochilidae involved much intricate and laborious investigation, parti- cularly with regard to the synonymy of the various species, I have been induced to have it set up in octavo for the faci- lity of correction. From this draft, as it were, it has been reprinted in large type for the folio work. Believing that in its present form it might be interesting and useful to many of my scientific friends and others, I have had a limited number of copies printed for distribution among them. It must not, however, be regarded as a complete history of the family, but merely as an introduction to, and a revision of, the genera : the history of the species must be sought for in the folio work.
