Attachment 4 Anonymised 2006 to 2008 School School Disciplinary Absences 2006-2008 Version 8 07/07/2009 The information presented in the following tables relates to school disciplinary absences applied in State schools over the three schools years, 2006 to 2008. The School Disciplinary Absence (SDA) data presented comprise the total of Short Suspensions (1-5 days), Long Suspensions (6-20 days), Suspensions with recommendation for Exclusion and Cancellations of Enrolment. A student may be suspended or excluded from a State school or schools because of disobedience, misconduct or other conduct that is prejudicial to the good order and management of the school. Suspension prohibits a student from attending an educational institution for a nominated period of time (from 1-5 days or 6-20 days). Decisions to suspend a student are made by individual State school principals. Exclusion is only recommended where student behaviour is so serious that suspension is inadequate to deal with the behaviour. Exclusion prohibits a student from attending one or more State educational institutions for a nominated period or on a permanent basis, with the opportunity to have the exclusion revoked annually until the age of 24. Decisions to exclude a student from a school or schools within an Education Queensland district are made by the Principal's supervisor, the Executive Director Schools, or the Regional Executive Director. The principal can cancel the enrolment of a post compulsory age student if the student displays persistent refusal to participate in the program of instruction. The information shows counts of incidents, where an incident is a record in the School Disciplinary Absence Collection system (SDAC) of a suspension, suspension with recommendation for exclusion or cancellation of enrolment. It is important to understand that incident figures do not equate with the number of students subject to a school disciplinary absence (e.g. One student may be suspended several times in a school year. Each time a student is suspended it is recorded as a separate incident in the SDAC. A total incident count of 20 therefore, may not mean 20 students have been subject to a suspension. Can the Minister please advise how this will assist women to enter career pathways that have otherwise been male dominated? ANSWER: I thank the Committee for the question. The Supporting Women Scholarships program is a $10m Queensland Government initiative providing scholarships for women of all ages considering a future in agricultural science, architecture, building services, engineering, geology, or information technology. Scholarships are available for study at the certificate IV level through to postgraduate level. The program will assist Queensland to meet current and future skills needs by increasing women’s participation in key industry sectors linked to the Government’s four economic pillars Each of these 500 scholarships will provide successful recipients with up to $20,000 over four years to complete study in targeted male-dominated fields in areas of skills shortage, such as engineering, agricultural science, geology, architecture, building services and information technology, from Certificate IV to postgraduate level. These scholarships will assist Queensland women who are studying Year 12, women seeking to change careers or those women who are seeking to re-enter the workforce — many of whom would otherwise be unable to undertake tertiary or higher-level study due to financial or other constraints. Successful applicants will be able to use the funding to offset the costs of their studies, which can sometimes be a barrier to taking up these opportunities.

    Explanatory Notes for Development Assessment Local Heritage Register Amendments to the Queensland Heritage Act 1992, Schedule 8 and 8A of the Integrated Planning Act 1997, the Integrated Planning Regulation 1998, and the Queensland Heritage Regulation 2003 became effective on 31 March 2008. All aspects of development on a Local Heritage Place in a Local Heritage Register under the Queensland Heritage Act 1992, are code assessable (unless City Plan 2000 requires impact assessment). Those code assessable applications are assessed against the Code in Schedule 2 of the Queensland Heritage Regulation 2003 and the Heritage Place Code in City Plan 2000. City Plan 2000 makes some aspects of development impact assessable on the site of a Heritage Place and a Heritage Precinct. Heritage Places and Heritage Precincts are identified in the Heritage Register of the Heritage Register Planning Scheme Policy in City Plan 2000. Those impact assessable applications are assessed under the relevant provisions of the City Plan 2000.
