World Championship SENIOR and MASTER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP JESOLO LIDO (VE) – ITALY 15-24 OCTOBER 2021 SENIOR and MASTER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP JESOLO LIDO (VE) – ITALY 15-24 OCTOBER 2021 INVITATION LETTER by WAKO IF President Mr. Roy Baker Dear WAKO members, I take pride in inviting you to the 2021 Senior and Master Kickboxing World Championships (All Disciplines). As Sport returns gradually to the international stage. I would like to wholeheartedly thank the Italian Federation, FEDERKOMBAT President Donato Milano and his team for hosting this event at very short notice. I would also like to acknowledge the other countries and presidents who also bid for the championships, Azerbaijan, Montenegro and The Netherlands. It shows the strength of WAKO to have four strong bids for the event, in such a short time and every bid, I can truly say was a strong one. But this crisis is far from over. This situation we find our federations in, our sport in, will need all our solidarity, creativity, determination and flexibility. We all will need to make sacrifices. We are only beginning to understand the scenarios for the post-corona world that will finally prevail. In fact, the corona crisis shows us again that to respect each other is not enough. We have to help each other. The major lesson is: We need more solidarity with each other, and we need to focus on the sport of KICKBOXING exclusively. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks in particular to the National Federations (NFs), the National Olympic Committees (NOCs), the athletes, the coaches and the officials in WAKO of continuing to stay positive of continuing to stay engaged in these difficult times. The great Olympic Champion Muhammad Ali, who had the Olympic Flag as one of just two flags flying at his funeral, expressed it in this way: ”I have learned that whatever time we spend on earth should be spent helping others and creating justice and equality for all people, not out of pity or shame, but out of love for all people with the knowledge that we belong not to many races, but to one race – the human race." These Championships will be the Eliminators for the upcoming World Games and Combat Games in 2022, the very highest platform our sport currently has to offer our athletes and federations, it enables us to showcase the beauty and brilliance of the sport of Kickboxing on a truly global stage. We must continue to fight and focus our efforts on a doping free sport, we must eradicate strongly all use of prohibited substances and this is why it is MANDATORY test, that all participants of the 2021 World Championships must have competed and certified in the WADA at: https://www.wada-ama.org/en/what-we-do/education-prevention/the-new-adel-is-set-to-launch-in-january-2021- 0?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIu7TD39fD8AIVzbLVCh1WNQ0uEAAYASAAEgJTc_D_BwE We all know that this journey will not be an easy one. We will have to give it our best to address the many challenges of an increasingly confrontational and ever more fragile world in deep crisis. But the WAKO family is used to giving it our best, we are used to falling down and standing back up, we are a combat sport. We are used to embracing change, and we are used to seizing opportunities. If we continue to stand together in this unity and solidarity, we can emerge from this crisis even stronger than before. But now we focus on our Athletes on enabling and allowing them to shine at the highest level our sport has to offer, to inspire future generations of kickboxers across a diverse, respectful and inclusive sport that continues to grow. There is only #onewako and there is only #onechampion and that is the WAKO champion. I look forward to meeting our WAKO family in Italy in a safe, controlled and well managed event. See you SOON. Roy Baker WAKO President 2 SENIOR and MASTER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP JESOLO LIDO (VE) – ITALY 15-24 OCTOBER 2021 INVITATION LETTER by FEDERKOMBAT President Mr. Donato Milano To all of you dear friends of WAKO, with particular pride and a great sense of responsibility, I extend my warm invitation to you for participation in the 2021 WAKO World Championship. An event that takes on particular relevance in this dramatic moment that has affected the whole world. Allow me to send my deep feeling of closeness to all those who have been directly affected by the pandemic and to gather in prayer for those who have not made it. We are experiencing the worst crisis in sport of the last century, for this reason I believe that the organization of such a prestigious event is a strong and clear sign of recovery, of normality. A signal strongly desired by WAKO President Roy Baker and the WAKO Board to which my heartfelt thanks go. A thank you that gives meaning to the great work perpetuated with firm will without ever ceasing to believe in it, despite endless difficulties encountered. The enormous efforts made are and will be at the service of WAKO and Sport for the safeguarding of our sporting heritage. We owe it to our Athletes, to the Coaches, to the Officials, to the Commissions all who constantly give us an incredible demonstration of "adaptability". Once again, Sport shows us all its unstoppable power and reminds us of the continuous affirmation of its values. The Kickboxing World Championship produces an extraordinary amount of continuous emotions, it is a fantastic educational and cultural model of social cohesion between people, beyond all limits of human weaknesses and beyond any useless barrier. The great value of this extraordinary event will give the participants, who will compete in a spirit of Fair Play, not only the opportunity to confront each other by learning to challenge each other in compliance with the rules, but also the opportunity to socialize, meet old friends and make new friends. A great opportunity also for all of us, Managers, Technicians, Officials, so that we can transmit examples of fairness, loyalty, friendship in the spirit of SPORT for ALL! The decades-long experience of the Organizing Committee, the solidity of the Federation, the support of the CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee), the Government Authorities, the city of Jesolo and the Veneto Region, represent elements of great security for the perfect success of the world event. A great opportunity also to spend time together and visit the splendid setting of Jesolo and Venice with its natural, cultural and artistic places. In short, a perfect mix of Sport, Art and Culture of our beloved country. The WAKO World Championship is a source of pride for WAKO and for the Italian FEDERKOMBAT. An event of the highest sporting, cultural, social and relational level. Anyone who takes part will return home enriched by such a wonderful experience. Our motto: in the race “you win or you learn”. Our mascot JES-KIBO is waiting for you! Welcome, take a seat and enjoy the show! • Introduction: Castles
Introduction: Castles Between the 9th and 10th centuries, the new invasions that were threatening Europe, led the powerful feudal lords to build castles and fortresses on inaccessible heights, at the borders of their territories, along the main roads and ri- vers’ fords, or above narrow valleys or near bridges. The defense of property and of the rural populations from ma- rauding invaders, however, was not the only need during those times: the widespread banditry, the local guerrillas between towns and villages that were disputing territori- es and powers, and the general political crisis, that inve- sted the unguided Italian kingdom, have forced people to seek safety and security near the forts. Fortified villages, that could accommodate many families, were therefore built around castles. Those people were offered shelter in exchange of labor in the owner’s lands. Castles eventually were turned into fortified villages, with the lord’s residen- ce, the peasants homes and all the necessary to the community life. When the many threats gradually ceased, castles were built in less endangered places to bear witness to the authority of the local lords who wanted to brand the territory with their power, which was represented by the security offered by the fortress and garrisons. Over the centuries, the castles have combined several functions: territory’s fortress and garrison against invaders and internal uprisings ; warehouse to gather and protect the crops; the place where the feudal lord administered justice and where horsemen and troops lived. They were utilised, finally, as the lord’s and his family residence, apartments, which were gradually enriched, both to live with more ease, and to make a good impression with friends and distinguished guests who often stayed there.

  • Cortenuova 1237
Cortenuova 1237 INTRODUCTION Cortenuova 1237 is based on the conflict between Guelphs and Ghibellines in XIII century Italy. The Ghi- bellines, led by Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, are attempting to restore Imperial power south of the Alps while Guelphs, let by Pope Gregory IX, are opposing restoration of imperial power in the north and are trying to break Emperor’s allies in Italy. Both players attempt to capture cities and castles of Italy, Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica. The Ghibelline player starts with a powerful army in the north but must conduct many sieges, giving time to his opponents to organise a resistance. A smaller army is in the south but lacks proper leadership. Lack of communication between north and south is an issue for Imperial player. The Guelph player starts with his armies spread out over Italy and must first concentrate his forces in order to slow down Emperor’s armies. After the Emperor has been stopped the central position of Guelph hol- dings allows for a number of possible avenues of advance. The game’s event cards allow full replay ability thanks to the numerous various situations that they create on the diplomatic, military, political or economical fields. Estimated Playing Time: 3h30 DURATION Favored Side: None Hardest to play: None Cortenuova 1237 lasts 24 turns each representing about two months, between August 1237 and August 1241. TheGhibelline player always goes before the Guelph player. FORCES The Ghibelline player controls Holy Roman Empire (golden), Ezzelino da Romano’s dominions (green), Kingdom of Sicily (gray), Republic of Pisa (dark red), Republic of Siena (black) and other Ghibelline (red) units.

All three areas showed the same elements; therefore, this type of analysis could not be used to determine if the inscription is original. Samuel H. Kress Collection 1952.5.87 ENTRY The Coronation of the Virgin marks the final episode of the legend of the mother of Jesus, that of her ultimate glorification after her bodily assumption into heaven. The episode first appears in medieval sources, but it was not until the thirteenth century that the scene in which Christ places the crown on his mother’s head is explicitly illustrated in monumental painting and sculpture. Mary usually is represented seated on the same throne as her son and to his right as he crowns her with his right hand.[1] This scheme, which subsequently underwent some changes, especially in Tuscany,[2] was faithfully followed by Venetian painters throughout the fourteenth century and beyond.

VILLA BEATRICE D’ESTE Management Plan For the future valorisation and D.T4.2.1 conservation of the heritage site and its medieval ruins Prepared by: Valentina Gamba Sergio Calò Enzo Moretto VENETIAN CLUSTER Tel: +39. 0445 607742 [email protected] [email protected] Headquarters: Sestiere San Marco 2065 – 30124 Venezia (VE) Registered Office: Viale dell’Industria, 37 – 36100 Vicenza (VI) Italy Vat Code IT 03904910241 2 FOREWORD The present Management Plan was developed within the framework of the European project RUINS, funded by the European Territorial Cooperation Programme Interreg Central Europe. The aim of the RUINS project is to give new life to medieval ruins in Central Europe, valorising them and identifying good practices for their sustainable management and for the development of productive activities that are in line with their cultural, historic and artistic values, in the perspective of their long-term conservation. The monumental complex of Villa Beatrice d’Este was selected as a case study by the project due to the presence of medieval ruins on which, during the 17th century, the villa was built. The case study represents an opportunity to investigate how medieval heritage can make a strong contribution to the valorisation of a complex and stratified heritage site. We thank the Province of Padua, owner of the site, and Enzo Moretto, president of Butterfly Arc Ltd, current manager of the Museum of Villa Beatrice, for the support provided in the collection of data and in the drafting of the plan. 3 INTRODUCTION According to the UNESCO guidelines for the management of World Heritage sites, a management plan is a tool aimed to guarantee and provide coordination for the strategic protection of a heritage site in the long- term1.

  • Slide Collection Catalogue
Catalogue of the Albert Hoxie Slide Collection Compiled by Kent Fielding Schull Summer 2001 Collection Owned by the Department of History, UCLA Introduction This catalogue is a guide to the contents of Albert Hoxie’s entire slide collection of over 160,000 slides of art and architecture from all periods and from around the world. It is ordered according to his method of organization. There are three major sections. Section I is organized according to Area, Painter, and Time Period, for example: if you wish to see if the collection contains the works of Titian, look under Italian Painters 16th Century. Section II consists of artists and artistic works other than paintings and is organized according to Place, Subject Type, and Time Period,1 therefore if you want the sculptural works of Michelangelo then look up under Italian Artists 16th Century. Section III consists of numerous slides taken of sites and architecture around the world. This section is organized according to country, town/city, and specific place.2 For example if you want to see if the collection holds slides of Christ’s Church College in Oxford, England; you would look under Central England, Oxford, Christ’s Church, etc.3 It is also possible to search the collection by using the binoculars icon in the Adobe Acrobat Reader (assuming you have the PDF form of this document). We strongly encourage faculty participation in the identification of slides. If you find an artist, area, or time period that is of interest and would like to use the slides or hasten the process of digitization, please contact Kent Schull: [email protected].
