At the State level, we don’t fundraise. But we put tens of thousands of dollars into the Scout Monster Raffle so Groups can raise around $600,000 each year. For a smaller investment we support the Groups that raise hundreds of thousands of dollars through Christmas tree sales. And our staff assist with grant applications that bring in hundreds of thousands more. At the State level our role is to support you. And we can do more as our membership grows. At the State level, one extra member per Group would generate an extra $1 million that we could plough into hall improvements. (As a result of the State election we have more than 25 Groups with significant building and renovations coming.) There are so many compelling reasons for growth. Please consider them in your planning at Group Council and Group Committee. Make 2019 the year to Grow Your Group. The year you run LeaderBuild for the first time (or the second time for new families, and older youth) to bulk up your Leader numbers. Sadly, some of our current problems are administrative: • Groups not responding quickly to new member enquiries • Groups that are slow to register new members • Groups not “accepting” new members after their parents complete the registration process • Sections not keeping families fully informed about the program The reverse of this is, of course, booming Groups that always seem to have lots of youth members, lots of adults to help as Leaders or in other roles within the Group, and adequate funds because (a) they have many members to share the cost of running the Group, and (b) they have many families to help with fundraising.
