Spirituality in the Scouts Canada Program a proposal – December 2011 Lord Baden-Powell & Duty to God God is not some narrow-minded personage, as some people would seem to imagine, but a vast Spirit of Love that overlooks the minor differences of form and creed and denomination and which blesses every [person] who really tries to do his [/her] best, according to his [/her] lights, in His service. in “Rovering to Success” Reverence to God, reverence for one’s neighbour and reverence for oneself as a servant of God, are the basis of every form of religion. in “Aids to Scoutmastership” Spirituality means guiding ones’ own canoe through the torrent of events and experiences of one’s own history and of that of [humankind]. To neglect to hike – that is, to travel adventurously – is to neglect a duty to God. God has given us individual bodies, minds and soul to be developed in a world full of beauties and wonders. in “The Scouter” January 1932 The aim in Nature study is to develop a realisation of God the Creator, and to infuse a sense of the beauty of Nature. in “Girl Guiding” Real Nature study means…knowing about everything that is not made by [humans], but is created by God. In all of this, it is the spirit that matters. Our Scout law and Promise, when we really put them into practice, take away all occasion for wars and strife among nations. The wonder to me of all wonders is how some teachers have neglected Nature study, this easy and unfailing means of education, and have struggled to impose Biblical instruction as the first step towards getting a restless, full-spirited boy to think of higher things.

The Diversity and Inclusion Workgroup was established and tasked to gather a ‘current status’ report of the Rover Scout Section and further Rovers who are LGB or T 22 recommend actions to be taken by the SABRC. Women and Rovers 24 The Workgroup then looked into the issues surrounding the current status of the Section in regard to its make up and diversity, and found that while the Section was open to anyone, it’s make up lacked Leaders under-26 25 diversity of cultures, languages and experiences. Research and recommendations then turned to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, Multiculturalism, Special Needs, LGBT+, Women, Leaders under-26, Rural and Regional Rovers 26 and Rural and Regional Rovers, where a variety of diverse and wide ranging outcomes and ideas were developed and matured. Leaving the Section 27 Upon looking at the potential different sectors of society and culture within the Section, the workgroup Religion, Spirituality and the Rover Scout Section 28 then looked at structural and organisational changes that may need to be considered by the Section and ultimately the Branch.

Organisation and Information Handbook Introduction and Purpose As members of Scouts NSW, we all have a responsibility to do our part in inspiring and empowering resilient young people by developing skills for life and contributing to our community. This document, the Scouts NSW Organisation and Information Handbook, is an important resource which guides us to fulfil this shared responsibility through the conduct of Scouting across the State. The Organisation and Information Handbook supports the implementation of the Scout Association of Australia’s Policy and Rules (P&R) 9th Edition November 2017 (revised November 2018) within New South Wales. It provides an essential link to the National Policy and Rules, and additional commentary to ensure we apply them in a way that complements the needs of Scouting in our State. The handbook is not designed to be a comprehensive account of the conduct of Scouting in New South Wales. Instead, it outlines the frameworks by which we govern, manage, support and undertake Scouting, and where appropriate, it points to additional resources for further guidance. Venturing will offer you lots of fun, meet new friends, the opportunity to develop new skills and experience challenges set by yourself and by the Unit activities. An important part is the Venturer Award Scheme, where you have the opportunity for: Participation – Venturer Award Individual Effort – Queen’s Scout Award Specialising – Endeavour Award Some Venturers find the task of planning their Award Scheme difficult and this Kit is designed to assist your understanding and to help guide you through the process. In this Kit you will find some planning sheets and other materials to assist your understanding of how the Award Scheme and standards works. The Award Scheme is governed by the Unit Council who monitor the standards outlined in the ‘Venturer Scout Record Book’; some activities also require the approval of the District/Zone Venturer Council. Be aware that the Unit Council needs to approve the start and completion of each of your activities in the Unit Minutes so as to maintain accurate records. Your Leaders and District/Zone Venturer Leaders are there to provide ideas and support, so please ask any questions if you are unsure. Remember to take your Record Book with you on all Unit activities that involve your participation to be signed at the event (i.e. visit to local Council meeting).
