Kissimmee, Florida St. Louis Ambush at Orlando Seawolves St Friday, January 25, 2019 · 6:35 PM CST / 7:35 PM EST Silver Spurs Arena · Kissimmee, Florida St. Louis Ambush at Orlando SeaWolves St. Louis Ambush MASL Game 81 Orlando SeaWolves 5-6 OVERALL St. Louis Ambush Game 12 3-3 OVERALL 2-2 HOME St. Louis Ambush Away Game 8 2-2 HOME 3-4 AWAY Orlando SeaWolves Game 7 1-1 AWAY 1-0 HEAD TO HEAD Orlando SeaWolves Home Game 5 0-1 HEAD TO HEAD TONIGHT’S GAME • Tonight’s game is the second of four meetings between St. Louis and Orlando slated for the 2018-19 regular season. • The Ambush won the first contest between the two teams when they slipped by the SeaWolves in a 5-4 overtime shootout contest at the Silver Spurs Arena on November 30. LAST TIME OUT FOR EACH TEAM • In their most recent game, the Ambush lost 8-5 to Utica City FC on Saturday, January 19 at home. • In their last game, the SeaWolves defeated the Milwaukee Wave 7-4 at home Monday night. PLAYERS TO WATCH: AMBUSH • Rookie forward Zach Reget leads the team in goals (12) and points (13) and currently leads all rookies in the MASL in goals scored. He’s been named MASL Player of the Week once, named to the Team of the Week twice and earned honorable mention twice. If he continues at this rate, he’s a candidate for Rookie of the Year. • Justin Stinson, another rookie, ranks right behind Reget in points (11) and goals (7). • Defender Axel Duarte is an important component of the Ambush defense and currently leads the MASL in blocked shots with 21. • Goalkeeper Paulo has been solid all season for the Ambush, and his save percentage (.675) is good for eighth in the league. PLAYERS TO WATCH: SEAWOLVES • Gordy Gurson is a perennial scoring threat who leads the team in points (17), is tied for the lead in goals (9), assists (8) and average points per game (2.8). Has tallied six goals and five assists in his last three games. • Osvaldo Rojas is tied with Gurson in goals scored and is second on the team in points with 11. Has posted seven goals and two assists in his last three games. • Richard Schmermund scored his first two goals as a member of the SeaWolves in Monday’s win over Milwaukee and he would no doubt like to continue that trend tonight against his former team. RECENT AMBUSH ROSTER CHANGES • Since St. Louis and Orlando last met, the Ambush made some roster moves, placing injured forward Jerjer Gibson on the inactive roster, adding veteran Stefan St. Louis and rookies Nic Powers and Eduardo Maia, and trading for Jowayne Laidley. This week, they added rookie midfielder Howard Miller. • The 2018-19 season marks the eighth in professional indoor soccer for Stefan St. Louis. He has played with the Detroit Waza Flo (PASL), Missouri Comets (MISL and MASL) and Milwaukee Wave (MASL). Stefan appeared in 33 games with the Ambush during the 2014-15, 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. • Midfielder Nic Powers is a hometown product who played collegiate soccer at William Woods University (one year), St. Charles Community College (one year) and Columbia University (two years). When not playing, Powers coaches at Columbia College. • Defender Eduardo Maia is a native of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil who came to the United States at the age of 21 and played three years of collegiate soccer at Missouri Baptist University. When not playing soccer, he coaches at Core Soccer Training and Vetta Sports in the St. Louis area. • On January 16, the Ambush announced the trade of midfielder Antonio Manfut to the Florida Tropics for forward Jowayne Laidley. The native of Kingston, Jamaica has played for the Tropics since 2016. The current season is his third in professional indoor soccer. • Midfielder Howard Miller is a local product who played last summer with St. Louis Maritsa FC, an outdoor team in the UPSL. FAMILIAR FACES IN DIFFERENT PLACES • Five members of the SeaWolves roster (midfielders Victor France and Gordy Gurson, defenders Luiz Mota and Richard Schmermund and goalkeeper Piotr Sliwa) formerly occupied a spot on the Ambush roster. MASL TEAM OF THE WEEK / PLAYER OF THE WEEK St. Louis Ambush players earning Team of the Week, Player of the Week or Honorable Mention during the 2018-19 regular season.
