THE ST. LOUIS AMBUSH

The St. Louis Ambush began as an expansion club in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) for the 2013-14 season and joined the MASL for the 2014-15 season. The 2019-20 season is the team's seventh. The Ambush resurrected the name of the original St. Louis Ambush, who played in the National Professional Soccer League from 1992 to 2000 and won the league championship for the 1994-95 season. They remain the only St. Louis professional soccer team to win a league title. The Ambush play all home games at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri, a western suburb of St. Louis. The ownership of the club is 100% local.

THE MAJOR ARENA SOCCER LEAGUE

The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) has roots in the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL). The PASL began in 1997 and today serves as the developmental league for the MASL. October 2008 marked the debut of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL). To distinguish the PASL pro division from the PASL premier division, they were often referred to as PASL-Pro and PASL-Premier. At the conclusion of the 2013-14 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) season, the MISL announced on March 17, 2014 that they would not have a 2014-15 season. The folded and the six remaining MISL teams (, Milwaukee Wave, Missouri Comets, Rochester Lancers, St. Louis Ambush and Syracuse Silver Knights) joined with PASL-Pro teams to form the new Major Arena Soccer League (MASL).

The Major Arena Soccer League represents the highest level of professional arena soccer in the world. The MASL features teams across North America, with 17 teams playing coast-to-coast in the United States and Mexico. The MASL is currently incorporated as a 501(c)6 not for profit corporation formed to promote the business and sport of arena soccer.

THE INDOOR GAME

Professional indoor soccer was developed to appeal to sports fans around the world. The indoor game combines technical skills and strategy that appeals to fans of outdoor soccer, but adds speed and excitement, along with the “no ties” scoring model that appeals to fans of other sports. The fast-paced, fiercely competitive game is played on artificial turf on a hockey-rink-sized field surrounded by dasher boards and Plexiglas with eight-foot high by 14-foot wide goals receded into the end boards. Creative dribbling, pinpoint passing, acrobatic goalkeeping and rugged defensive play are all skills demonstrated by MASL players. A typical MASL game features end-to-end-action resulting in approximately 60 shots and 11 goals per game. Each game consists of four 15-minute quarters. Other unique characteristics of the MASL include action-packed power plays and free substitution of players while play continues.

The first recorded “indoor soccer” match was held in 1885 in a roller skating rink in Newark, New Jersey. Since that time, a variety of leagues have staged sporadic indoor soccer games and tournaments. In 1950, the National Soccer League held a complete season of indoor soccer games, including some on local television. The modern era of professional indoor soccer commenced in 1978, when the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) began play with six US teams, coinciding in 1979 with the NASL's indoor league, comprised of 10 teams. Games were played in four 15-minute quarters.

THE MASL SEASON

The 2019-20 MASL regular season began on November 22, 2019 and concludes on March 22, 2020. Each MASL team plays a 24-game season consisting of 12 home games and 12 road games.

Playoffs will begin at the conclusion of the regular season and the playoff schedule will be announced when playoff teams are known and arena schedules have been locked in. The top four teams in each conference will qualify for the 2020 Ron Newman Cup Playoffs. They will be seeded #1-4 based on record. The #1 seed in each conference will choose which of the lower seeds in their conference that they will face in the in the opening round of the playoffs. There will be two rounds of Conference Playoffs with the winners of each Conference Playoff facing each other in the Ron Newman Cup Championship. Each round of the 2020 Ron Newman Cup Playoffs, including the Championship, will feature a home-and-home series, with a 15 minute Mini-Game if necessary.
