Dear customers, partners, and friends,

2020, without a doubt, has been a year of challenges all over the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which started at the beginning of 2020 and continues until now. Tourism is undoubtedly one of the worst-affected industries; it was the first to take the hit and may well be one of the last to recover. Plataran has not been exempt from this catastrophe, as we have experienced a total of four months’ closure in compliance with the government PSBB measures. As we continue our current operations, we have been doing it with reduced operational capacity, in compliance with government regulations.

Our special gratitude goes to the domestic market, for their support of the Plataran Rainbow Revival Programs; a series of initiatives designed to reflect Plataran’s optimism to fight back and emerge as the winner from the pandemic crisis, ever since April 2020 and the so-called ‘catastrophic months’ of the pandemic. We thank our domestic markets, as they have not only contributed to keeping the Indonesian economy going but to Plataran, they have also truly been loyal friends in troubled times.

Despite the hardships, at Plataran we believe that there is a silver lining to this pandemic – it has reminded us to be thankful for what we have, reconnect with nature, be more committed to its preservation, and strengthen our spirit of Indonesian unity. Furthermore, this pandemic has also made Plataran more robust, lean, and flexible in providing its well-known service and products based on “personal, intimate, iconic, Indonesian nature and culture.”

We continue our guests to explore and make use of the Plataran Circle of Friends Loyalty Program, allowing guests to experience infinite privileges and benefits applicable to all Plataran properties. We launched this Loyalty Program as a tribute to Indonesia, and of course, our valued guests.

As we enter the closing stages of this year, we welcome you to experience our various end-of-year special programs at our various dining venues, resorts & hotels, private cruises, and our personalized resort catering services, all under New Normal Plataran Safety Protocols. To ensure safety and convenience for our guests, Plataran has invested significantly in new equipment and various SOPs to meet Plataran’s high standards of security and safety measures, as we continue to do our best in protecting guests and staff against the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of this, we are pleased to inform you that, as a result of our diligent efforts, all of our business units have achieved a very high score in the government CHSE certification (Cleanliness-Health-Safety-Environment).

We are also glad to update you that, despite the pandemic crisis, we have completed most of our 2020 investment plans, including: Tiga Dari Luxury Rock Hanging Villas at Plataran Komodo Resort, Lost Paradise Island at Labuan Bajo, Enam Langit on Menoreh Hill at Borobudur, Melati Ballroom Deck at Plataran Hutan Kota, Senayan, and Rumah Kaca Plataran at Rancamaya.

With regards to recognition, Plataran always strives to be the best and has received, among others, Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice – an unbiased recognition from the market. Additionally, as Plataran’s CEO, I am honored to have been named the winner of The Best Industry Marketing Champion for the Tourism & Hospitality sector by MarkPlus.Inc.

Wigati, Restaurant Manager - Plataran Borobudur Resort & Spa

What is your current role, and how long have you been working in this role as Restaurant Manager? My first role was as a waiter and now I am working as a Restaurant Manager. It has been 8 years since I worked in Plataran.

What motivates you to work in the hospitality industry? I`ve always liked the hospitality and tourism industry, and I like challenging myself and advancing on a personal level. That is what attracted me to this industry, to begin with.

How do you apply safety protocols in your department? Plataran Safety Protocols are prepared based on references to authorized government regulations as well as references to international standards that can be applied in Indonesia as well as the results of the Plataran Safety Protocol Team study and including temperature checking, use of masks, the presence of handwashing stations, social distancing and sanitation fogging regularly.

What are your hopes for the future for the hospitality industry in Indonesia? The future is bright, the hospitality industry in Indonesia is as strong as it has ever been – and growing.

08 Lucy Arenawati- Guest Relation Officer, Plataran Venues & Dining What is your current role, and how long have you been working in this role? I have been working as a Guest Relation Officer at Plataran for almost 2 years and working in the hospitality industry as a marketing, public relations specialist and general manager for almost 20 years. At Plataran Hutan Kota, we extend our objectives beyond indulging customers with delicious Indonesian dishes. It also includes ensuring that our customers have a pleasurable experience in our unique atmosphere. Plataran Hutan Kota consists of a restaurant, event venues, and a café surrounded by many trees. We provide an oasis to customers in the busy and buzzing metropolitan city of Jakarta. Therefore, my job also includes guiding our customers to ensure that they get the most of their great experience during their visit to our facilities.

What motivates you to work in the hospitality industry? Meeting new friends and putting smiles on their faces - these have been my great passions since I was younger. My career in the hospitality industry has proven that it is the right place for me to pursue these dreams and fulfil my ambitions.

How do you apply safety protocols in your department? Plataran has been in full compliance with the government’s guidance on protecting customers and employees during the pandemic. This includes an advanced temperature scanner, sanitizing the facilities and incoming products, the requirement to wear masks, physical distancing, and periodic tests for our employees.

What are your hopes for the future for the hospitality industry in Indonesia? Indonesians are naturally blessed with sincere smiles, caring attitudes, and helpfulness. These are essential assets in the hospitality industry. However, there is always room for improvement. One of them is professionalism. I’m confident that the government, as well as the private sector, are already putting efforts into improving professionalism among us in the hospitality industry. I hope that we will see the results soon. I also hope that Indonesian tourism will soon go beyond Bali; with its natural beauty, cultural diversity, sincere smiles, hospitality, and professionalism, I foresee that Indonesia will become a tourism powerhouse where the hospitality industry will make an even greater contribution to the country’s economy.

Chef Aditya Nugroho -Executive Chef of Plataran Bromo What is your current position, and how long have you been working in this role? I joined the Plataran family on February 15th, 2019 as an Executive Chef at Plataran Bromo Resort & Venue.

What motivates you to work in the hospitality industry? My passion is in food preparation. The hospitality industry has allowed me to develop myself professionally and as a person; I have not only been able to enhance my professional skills, but with time and commitment, have studied to improve in other areas too. Alongside colleagues and clients, I am also able to develop myself in these testing times.

How do you apply safety protocols in your department? The most important concept to remember is that we each have a responsible for our own safety and the safety of others. We usually conduct our safety protocols from the beginning of each shift, such as: taking a proper shower before starting the working day, wearing a clean and proper uniform every single day, always checking body temperature, always wearing a face mask and face shield, completing a bi-weekly rapid test, and taking vitamins as part of our daily routine. We also maintain cleanliness and hygiene in our working environment.

What are your hopes for the future and the hospitality industry in Indonesia? I am personally confident and optimistic that the hospitality industry in Indonesia will soon return to normal and develop more rapidly. And together with Plataran, we continue to strive to make it happen.
