Death notice: Death of John Dierks An Old and Well-Known Resident Passes Away: John Dierks, whose critical illness was referred to in the last issue of the Advertiser, passed peacefully away at his home in Hampshire township, west of Lyons, on Thursday morning at ten o'clock. The eighty-fourth anniversary of his birth occurred the day before his death. He was born on the 26th day of May 1813, at Norderstapel, Schleswig, Holstein, and emigrated with his family to America in 1854. Settling in Clinton county he purchased of his brother 160 acres of land in Hampshire township upon which he resided until his death. Being industrious, honest and economical, aided by his wife, who died in 1882, and his children, he accumulated considerable property. Perhaps no other person in the state has left at his death so large a family. Besides his five sons, Hans, John, Detlef, Peter and Henry, and his two daughters, Mrs. Lueders and Mrs. Eggers, he has forty-four grandchildren and forty great grandchildren, all living within ten miles of the old homestead and nearly all in good circumstances. Certainly a remarkable record. The funeral will be held at one o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the home of deceased in Hampshire township with interment at the Dierks burying ground.
