GEORGE WHITLOCK, Supervisor of the Customs and Excise for the town of Ottery St. Mary, , b. circa 1715, m. 30 Sep 1744 at King's Brompton, Somerset, ABIGAIL, dau of Rev WILLIAM BRAND, Rector of King's Brompton, and his wife SUSANNAH ROWE (see below). He was buried near Mrs. Walrond (Waldron) in the north aisle of the parish church of Ottery St. Mary, aged 74, on 16 Apr 1789 and she was buried at Ottery St. Mary, aged 86, on 15 Apr 1806 having had issue:

1. William Rowe, of the parish of St. Mary, Whitechapel, London, b. circa 1748, m. 25 Feb 1771 at St. Paul, Covent Garden, Sophia Westerley Beilby. She was buried at St. Paul, Covent Garden on 31 Aug 1787. 2. GEORGE, of whom presently. 1. Abigail, b. circa 1748, m. 22 Feb 1781 at Ottery St. Mary, Oliver Tucker, attorney-at-law, of Ottery St. Mary, possibly bapt 30 Jan 1759 at Regis, son of Abraham Tucker. He d. 18 Apr 1802, aged 43, and was buried near George Whitlock in the parish church of Ottery St. Mary on 22 Apr 1802 and she d. 18 Jan 1824, aged 75, at Heavitree and was buried at Ottery St. Mary on 24 Jan 1824 having had issue: a. George, b. 31 Jan 1782, bapt 1 Aug 1783 at Ottery St. Mary, d. young. b. John, of Wonford House, Heavitree, b. 22 Aug 1788, bapt 1 Jan 1789 at Ottery St. Mary, m. 1819 at St. Kerrian’s, , Mary Hern. She d. 11 Mar 1851, aged 61, and he d. 17 Aug 1871 and they were both buried at Heavitree having had issue: 1. George, solicitor, of Exeter, bapt 30 Jul 1820 at St. Laurence, Exeter, d. unmarried at Wonford House on 6 Oct 1849. 1. Mary Margaret, bapt 17 May 1823 at St. Laurence, Exeter, m. William Clapp of 14 Southernhay, Exeter, son of James Clapp and his wife Elizabeth (nee Kingman). She d. 4 Jul 1881 and he d. 27 May 1888, aged 74, and they were both buried at Heavitree. a. Mary, b. 26 May 1783, bapt 1 Aug 1783 at Ottery St. Mary, d. unmarried 27 Dec 1826 at Heavitree and was buried at Ottery St. Mary on 3 Jan 1827. b. Charlotte, b. Apr 1786, bapt 2 Jan 1787 at Ottery St. Mary, d. unmarried 28 Jul 1861 and was buried at Heavitree.

Rev WILLIAM BRAND, M.A., Rector of King's Brompton, Somerset 1701-51, originally from Cambridgeshire, matriculated Emmanuel College, Cambridge on 28 Jul 1691, may have m. 1stly 15 Oct 1708 at Blofield, Norfolk, Elizabeth Moyse and had issue:

He retired from the Army on 21 Jun 1845 and d. 18 Sep 1861 and she d. 24 Sep 1887 (Will dated 29 Nov 1881 and proved 1887) having had issue (an only child): a. Catherine Charlotte, b. 1836 in India, m. 18 Sep 1855 at Cray, Rev Henry McIlree Williamson, D.D., son of David Williamson and his wife Leonora (nee McIlree). Lieutenant General Sir GEORGE CORNISH WHITLOCK, K.C.B., b. 3 Dec 1798, bapt 3 Aug 1803 at Ottery St. Mary, Captain, 36th Madras Native Infantry, served during the Third Mahratta 1817-19: Copaul Droog; Burmese the 1824-26: Ava; Coorg 1834; commanded 3rd Madras European Regiment 1845-1854; the Indian Mutiny: commanded Saugor Field Force, captured Banda 19-20 April 1858, Colonel of the 108th Regiment of Foot 1862-68, promoted Lieutenant General in 1864, m. 19 Feb 1825 at Bangalore, India, HARRIET, third dau of Sir SAMUEL TOLLER, Kt, Advocate General, Madras 1812-21, and his wife CHARLOTTE (nee MILLER).
