Road Closures ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 SECTION 14 THE COUNTY OF DEVON (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION) (VARIOUS ROADS, DEVON) ORDER 2018 TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF THROUGH TRAFFIC & PARKING NOTICE is hereby given that Devon County Council has made the above titled order. From TUESDAY 18 DECEMBER 2018 for a maximum of 18 months Anticipated Finish SUNDAY 31 MARCH 2019 No person shall cause or permit any vehicle to proceed or wait on the sections of Affected Roads. All roads will be closed for between 1 and 3 days within the road closure period. It is anticipated that the closures will be on consecutive days. Advanced warning signs for the road closure will be placed on site at least 7 days before the planned commencement of work at each location. It has been prepared in consultation with Parish/Town Councils and will be updated as necessary. Settlement Profile: Postbridge 1 Introduction Postbridge lies on the road between Two Bridges and Moretonhampstead, 5 miles east of Princetown. It commands a central geographical location within Dartmoor National Park. It is an important destination for visitors to Dartmoor. It hosts a National Park Visitor Centre, a large car park with room for coaches, and is the base for walks into moorland and forest and for viewing the well-known clapper bridge. There is also a youth hostel operating in nearby Bellever. The village name refers to the pack horse bridge (formed of large dimension clapper stones) over the East Dart River close to the main road. The cottages and inns that grew up around the bridge, along with ancient tenements nearby, came together to form the settlement and community. The turnpike road established in the 1790s, and the granite road bridge that was built in 1792, gave added importance to the settlement. There is a limited range of local services and facilities.     Holne September 2019 This settlement profile has been prepared by Dartmoor National Park Authority to provide an overview of key information and issues for the settlement. It has been prepared in consultation with Parish/Town Councils and will be updated as necessary. Settlement Profile: Holne 1 Introduction Holne is a small nucleated village with an irregular form lying on the south eastern slopes of Dartmoor about 3.5 miles west of Ashburton. There is a limited range of community services. The village is centred on its church, St Mary the Virgin, the Church House Inn and the village hall. A community shop and tea room has also been in operation for some time. Farming is important locally as well as tourism accommodation and hospitality. The central area is quite substantial and the oldest buildings are located here. The churchyard is of generous size. The site being slightly elevated ensures that the church stands proudly over its village.
