RAIL LINE TO CLOSE FOR CONSTRUCTION IN CARLSBAD, DEL MAR LOSSAN Coastal Rail Line to Shut Down for Night Construction; Bus Service to be Provided for Amtrak Passengers WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 13 to Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011 10 p.m. (Saturday night) to 7 a.m. (Sunday morning) WHERE: Coastal Rail Line; Carlsbad and Del Mar, CA The LOSSAN coastal rail line between Oceanside (OSD) and Downtown San Diego (SAN) in San Diego County will be shut down overnight, Saturday, August 13, for construction. Crews will perform work on sections of track in Carlsbad and Del Mar as part of an overall effort to improve rail service and safety in the corridor. On Saturday night, the closure will affect the last northbound COASTER train, two southbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains, and nighttime freight operations between Oceanside and Downtown San Diego: COASTER Train 697 (northbound from San Diego) will terminate at the Carlsbad Poinsettia Station. Passengers will be bused to Carlsbad Village Station or Oceanside Transit Center. Pacific Surfliner Train 592, (southbound from Los Angeles/LAX) will terminate in Oceanside. Passengers will be bused to Solana Beach, Old Town or Downtown San Diego. Pacific Surfliner Train 796 (southbound) will terminate at Los Angeles Union Station (LAX) and passengers will be bused to their regular station destination. Temporary bus schedules will be posted at stations along the corridor from Los Angeles to San Diego. The schedule will be coordinated to minimize passenger inconvenience. Construction is expected to begin on Saturday at 10 p.m. and continue until Sunday at 7 a.m. Construction will occur in three areas: south of the Carlsbad Village Station, at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Bridge in Carlsbad, and in Del Mar near the Torrey Pines Bridge. These projects include double tracking, bridge and track replacement, new stations, grade separations, and other improvements to shorten trip times and increase passenger rail service in the corridor.
