    GRUSSWORT DES TCB-VORSITZENDEN Liebe Clubmitglieder, liebe Tennisfreunde! Der Winter schüttelte uns sehr arg. Obwohl Tennis eigentlich auch der „Weiße Sport” genannt wird, war wohl niemend so recht nach Tennis im Freien zumute. Doch es galt: Der nächste Sommer kommt bestimmt. Bei einigen unserer Mitglieder kündigte sich die neue Tennissaison schon früh an. Für sie gab es zu Weihnachten vielleicht die allseits beliebten Tennissocken und Tennisbälle. Wir, der Vorstand des TCB, möchten die Gelegenheit vor der neuen Saison nutzen, um uns bei Euch für das Vertrauen zu bedanken, das Ihr uns 2010 entgegengebracht habt. Die tolle Beteiligung (und das Mitmachen) an unseren Festen, Spaßturnieren, Vereinsmeisterschaften, Medenspielen, kurzum an unserem Vereinsleben, hat uns sehr gefreut. Das ist uns Ansporn, auch 2011 nicht nachzulassen, Euch Spaß mit Tennis anzubieten. Karl Valentin, der Münchener Komiker und bekannte Darsteller von Volkstypen, hat einmal gesagt: Früher war sogar die Zukunft besser. Ich glaube, das trifft auf uns nicht zu. Wir wollen in Zukunft besser sein als früher. Einen Blick in unsere Zukunft möchte ich zuerst mit einem Rückblick auf ein erfolgreiches Jahr 2010 beginnen. Dank vielerlei Initiativen ist unsere Anlage mit neuen Sichtblenden ausgestattet. Das kommt neben der besseren Optik auch unserer Vereinskasse sehr zugute. Vielen Dank allen Sponsoren, die sich beteiligt haben. Zu den „Tagen der Arbeit“ kommen mittlerweile 20 bis 30 fleißige Helfer und Helferrinnen. Die Aktion entwickelt sich immer mehr zum Happening. Wann kann man schon mal Hecke schneiden, Schubkarre fahren oder Bäume fällen? Also, es lohnt sich, mitzumachen. Und dazu gibt’s immer noch was Leckeres nach der Arbeit. Das Tennisskatturnier um den „Kratzenden Esel”, einst vom ersten TCB-Vorsitzenden Otto Bürger initiiert, das die Fachschaft Tennis in den Wintermonaten veranstaltet, wurde 2010 zum wiederholten Male von unserer TCB-Mannschaft gewonnen.

Das Ruhrgebiet ist 2010 die Kulturhauptstadt Europas. Und der TC Babcock ist mittendrin. Das Vorurteil einer schmutzig-dreckigen Region, in der die Schornsteine qualmen, der Himmel grau und auch sonst nichts los ist, hat schon lange ausgedient. Wir vom TC Babcock wollen und können zeigen, wie schön und lebenswert unser Stück Ruhrgebiet ist. Galt der TC Babcock früher als „ Firmenclub“, so haben wir, wie das Ruhrgebiet auch, einen erfolgreichen Strukturwandel vollzogen. Wir freuen uns, mit den vorhandenen Mitgliedern, über viele „Neue“, über Eltern und Kinder, die bei uns eine sportliche Heimat gefunden haben. Jeder ist bei uns willkommen. Apropos Strukturwandel. Mit Petra Harms als 2. Vorsitzende haben wir jetzt endlich eine zweite Frau, neben Wiltraud Weber, im Vorstand. Weitere Anwärterinnen für die Vorstandsarbeit sind ausdrücklich erwünscht, denn ich glaube, das täte uns gut. Den Kauf unserer Clubanlage haben wir jetzt endgültig vollzogen. Liebe Mitglieder, Ihr könnt jetzt wahrheitsgemäß behaupten: Das ist mein Club! Herzlichen Glückwunsch dazu. Sportlich ist besonders erfreulich, dass wir 2010 neben unserer jungen Herrenmannschaft jetzt wieder eine 1. Damenmannschaft gemeldet haben. Es ist schön zu sehen, dass unsere Jugendarbeit Früchte trägt. Denn die meisten Spieler und Spielerinnen dieser jungen Mannschaften haben das Tennisspielen bei uns gelernt. Aber auch die „gestandenen Mannschaften“, von den Damen 50, Herren 40, 50, 55, 60 bis 65, möchte ich nennen. Sie haben sich von der Bezirksklasse bis zur Regionalliga immer als faire Sieger, aber auch als faire Verlierer gezeigt.
