Role Statement The Position Manager Public Information Department and Information Services Department; Division Experience & Engagement Division Classification Grade 4 ; Value Range 1 Position Type Full time; Fixed-term 12 months until November 2018 Salary Range $79,955 (Base of grade) Position Number MV/9194 Reports to Manager Information Services Date Prepared October 2017 Purpose of this Position The purpose of this position is to provide strong leadership, advocacy and internal stakeholder management for activities that promote public access to museum expertise, knowledge and information, and to ensure that these activities maintain Museums Victoria’s reputation as the State custodian of collections and research. Primary Accountability The position is accountable for the effective management of public information staff, operations, research facilities, information systems and enquiry services of Museums Victoria, and the Discovery Centres located at the Melbourne and Immigration Museum. Duties Manage the development of streamlined and improved public access to MV expertise, knowledge and information through digital channels and MV Information/Discovery Centres and develop and implement associated procedures. Provide leadership to Museums Victoria’s Public Information staff, volunteers and students: planning, budgeting, staffing and solving policy and operational issues, as guided by Museums Victoria policies, procedures, customer service charter and standards. Manage Public Information staff work performance plans and prioritisation of work across Museums Victoria sites and centres. Manage Public Information group planning and outcomes, and contribute to strategic departmental planning, that supports Museums Victoria’s strategic directions. Manage stakeholders and partnerships that are essential for improving and maintaining the Public Information group, its services and facilities for internal and external clients. Advocate the role and function of Public Information and create opportunities that raise the profile of Information/Discovery Centres and enquiry services to both Museums Victoria staff and visitors: promote and expand potential, including digital services. Lead and implement projects and initiatives in MV’s Information and Knowledge Management Strategy under the direction of the departmental manager. Comply with Museums Victoria's policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations Note: The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, but within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level. Selection Criteria Extensive knowledge and experience in best practice information services management and public enquiries services and the ability to recommend and implement change and innovative solutions. Demonstrated experience and sound understanding of digital applications that facilitate sharing of information and management of data. Demonstrated ability to manage, motivate and lead staff and volunteers, and manage project teams. Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, formulate operational plans and budgets and manage resources. Demonstrated ability to provide client-focussed service and excellent communication and interpersonal skills both verbal and written, including networking, collaboration and the ability to present professionally to external and internal stakeholders. The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost). (Note: Occupants of this and similar positions would normally possess a degree in a relevant discipline such as Information Management, Librarianship or Museum Studies or similar.) If a staff member is unable to perform the physical requirements of the role, Museums Victoria will take reasonable steps to assist the staff member, or to modify the duties, so that the staff member can continue to perform the role without further detriment to their health or safety. This role statement is intended to provide an overall view of the incumbent’s role as at the date of this statement. In addition to this document, the specifics of the incumbent’s role will be described in Department work and project plans, and in performance plans developed by the incumbent and relevant supervisor as part of Museums Victoria’s performance management process. Other Relevant Information Conditions of employment will be in accordance with the prevailing Museums Victoria Enterprise Partnership Agreement. Owing to the nature of the work, occasionally it will be necessary to work overtime. Days worked are any five in seven and employees may be required to work on weekends. Museums Victoria operates from five locations: Immigration Museum, Melbourne Museum, Scienceworks, the Royal Exhibition Building and the Moreland Collection Store.
