Purpose of this Position The purpose of this position is to provide leadership within the Experience Production Department to achieve Museums Victoria’s strategic directions through the delivery and advocacy of a world-class and ambitious exhibitions program that reflects the overall goals and objectives of the organisation – as well as the individual flavour and mission of each of Museums Victoria’s three museums - the Immigration Museum, and Museum and the Royal Exhibition Building.

This role reports to the Director, Experience and Engagement and is responsible for envisioning, advocacy, planning and delivery of all aspects of the exhibitions program, including but not limited to the redevelopment and operations of the long term exhibitions program, temporary and touring exhibitions program and rapid response displays and pop- ups.

The position will also work closely and in collaboration with each museum’s General Manager and other key internal stakeholders, to deliver against the organisation's overall strategic direction, while also reflecting each Museum’s core business strategies and vision.

Primary Accountability The position is accountable for leading the development and delivery of an ambitious, world- class exhibitions program across MV’s three museums and the Royal Exhibitions Building. Lead the Experience Production Department by fostering a collaborative, supportive and dynamic team environment and through exemplary professional practice to deliver audience focussed exhibitions experiences within on time and within budget and that provide optimal outcomes for Museums Victoria stakeholders.

Duties  Provide strategic leadership and advocacy of the Experience Production Department and build an innovative, collaborative, supportive, audience and experience driven culture in a collegiate environment.  Contribute to MV’s Strategic and Corporate Plans, and develop and monitor the annual Business Plan and Budget of the Experience Production Department, in order to meet MV’s strategic and operational priorities.  Develop and implement suitable policies, strategies and procedures to appropriately manage business of the Exhibitions Department, including its people, resources, budgets, systems and risks.  From conception through to delivery, devise high-quality and engaging exhibitions in accordance with the vision and mission of Museums Victoria  Analyse risks and manage OH&S issues to ensure a safe work-plan.  Work in collaboration with the Director, Transformational Projects on the development of multimillion dollar bids for exhibition renewal funding, crafting and articulating

persuasive arguments for investment in exhibition renewal by government, sponsors, philanthropic organisations and other potential funding bodies.  Lead the strategic planning process for delivery of an exciting suite of experiences at Museums Victoria that reflect the strategic plan and compel audiences to strive for a thriving future.  Manage the budgets and provision of resources to deliver an ambitious suite of experiences within budget and staffing.  Coach, develop and monitor and mentor the performance of Experience Production Department staff providing leadership to the department in line with MV’s Values and ensuring customer-focused and professional services are provided within approved resources.  Engage and monitor the performance of contractors and consultants in the cost effective provision of external expertise.  Comply with Museums Victoria’s policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations.

Note: The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, but within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

Selection Criteria  Extensive experience and demonstrated ability and success in developing, implementing and managing, at a senior level, the planning and delivery of multiple, complex projects in a multidisciplinary, technical environment.  Extensive experience in management of the production of innovative, enjoyable and enriching exhibitions for broad audiences with specialist knowledge of exhibition project management, design and multimedia production.  Strong experience developing and delivering operating plans and budgets for events and experiences while maintaining meaningful and lasting relationships with cultural sector partners.  Proven leadership skills that encourage a collaborative and collegiate approach in the delivery of key objectives and outcomes as agreed.  Demonstrated high level interpersonal, representation and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate and influence effectively at all levels and a proven capacity to develop effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.  Proven leadership and people management experience and extensive teamwork skills at a senior level, together with the ability to collaboratively resolve problems to achieve desired outcomes and to deliver customer-focused services  Experience in contributing to strategic corporate and business plans and translating broad strategies into individual actions that support MV's strategic directions.  The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).

Days worked are any five in seven and employees may be required to work on weekends.

Museums Victoria operates from five locations: Immigration Museum, , Scienceworks, the Royal Exhibition Building and the Moreland Collection Store. Main work place will be Moreland Collection Store. Employees may be required to work from any of these locations.
