YAGIZ: ONE YEAR ON

Modern Turkish restaurant, Yagiz is thriving, having found its rhythm as Chef Owner Murat Ovaz (Tulum, Four in Hand) celebrates the venue’s first year in service.

Located on South Yarra’s bustling Toorak Road in Melbourne, Yagiz invites guests to experience the flavours of modern in a vibrant atmosphere, accompanied by a new menu that demonstrates the evolution of a talented chef and his kitchen team.

A more succinct offering of smaller, accessible dishes now allows diners to experience more food and discover a host of new flavours and ingredients, with all staples made in-house including freshly baked bread, pastries and .

A Turkish Canteen Lunch has been introduced to allow passers-by and locals to experience Yagiz in an approachable manner. The menu features four dishes including lamb kofte, tomatoes, cacik and fresh Turkish bread or a blue mackerel roll, aioli, sumac and , all priced at $18 with individual slices of freshly baked also available.

While in the evening menu Spring dishes deliver nostalgic Turkish flavours, accented with contemporary techniques and include; • Hurma Dolmasi – date, cultured goat cheese curd, pasturma; • Yengec – Fraser Island crab meant, orange braised , trout roe; • Deniz Bocegi – WA charcoal marrons, pasturma crumble; • and Ördek – seared duck breast, sticky and peach,

For dessert baklava still reigns supreme, served with a soft praline ice cream, accompanied by the addition of kahveli keh – Turkish , crème pâtissière, caramelised white chocolate; and – macadamia, elderflower macerated berries and coconut sorbet.

Consultant Sommelier, Christian Maier continually evolves an open-minded wine list, with an emphasis on lesser known Turkish wines as well as smaller Australian and European producers.

A vibrant cocktail list sees the signature – rose infused gin, cacao, citrus, , egg water remain, whilst new stand-outs include the Princess of the Harem – vodka, lime juice, rosemary syrup, Peychauds, soda; and Magnificent Sultan – bourbon, sweet vermouth, angostura, syrup.

Interior adjustments have seen the front of the venue evolve into an expansion of the main dining room, with high seats now only spanning around the bar. Meanwhile, the central communal brass table continues to attract both large and small groups with front row seats to the pass, and the private dining room has been completed and is able to accommodate up to 12 guests.

Ovaz continues to welcome diners to experience his interpretation of traditional Turkish fare, created to honour his culinary foundations while embracing modern cuisine and the multicultural influences that come with it.

The restaurant is an extension of Ovaz’s home, a place where classic Turkish food, brings people together.
