SET RECIPE: ORANGE MARMALADE LOAF 117g (6oz) self-raising flour 115g (40z) butter Pinch of salt 85g (30z) sultanas 85g (3oz) soft brown sugar 2 medium free range eggs beaten 150g (5 1/2oz) orange marmalade plus 2 tablespoons extra for the glaze

Method 1. Pre-heat oven to 180°C/350°F/gas mark 4 line a 900g (2lb) loaf tin with baking parchment. 2. Rub the flour butter and salt together until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs stir in the sultanas and sugar pour in the beaten eggs and mix well. 3. Spoon 1/3 of the mixture into the lined loaf tin then spread over half the marmalade. Top this with another 1/3 of the cake mixture and the other ½ of the marmalade finish the remaining 1/3 of the cake mixture smoothing over the top 4. Bake for about 1 hour or until golden brown and firm to touch then leave to cool slightly in the tin before turning onto a wire rack 5. Warm the extra 2 tablespoons of marmalade and brush over the cake while still warm. Leave to cool completely then cut into slices to serve

SET RECIPE: HONEY FUDGE 1lb Sugar 2oz Honey 2oz Butter ¼ pint milk Method Prepare greased tin approx 7in square. Put all ingredients into a heavy based pan. Bring slowly to the boil, stirring all the time. Cover and boil for 2mins. Uncover and boil gently for approx 15mins and soft ball stage is reached (a little dropped into cold water will form a soft ball 120°C/240°F). Stand pan on cold surface for 5mins. Beat mixture until it starts to thicken then pour quickly into tin. Mark into squares as it cools. Cut when cold.

SET RECIPE: HONEY CAKE 8 fl oz clear honey + 3 tablespoons 3oz butter 120z plain wholemeal flour 1tsp ground mixed spice 1tsp bicarbonate of soda 2oz glace cherries halved 2oz chopped mixed peel 3 eggs 3tbsp fresh milk Grated rind of 1 large lemon 1oz flaked almonds

Method 1. Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas mark 4. Grease a20cm/8in square cake tin and line with baking parchment 2. Pour the honey into a saucepan add the butter and heat gently. Stir until blended 3. Sift the flour, spice and bicarb into a large bowl add cherries and peel 4. Beat the eggs and milk together and stir into the honey along with the rind. Pour mixture into the dry ingredients 5. Turn mixture into the tin and sprinkle with the flaked almonds. Bake for 1 1/4hrs 6. When cooked use a skewer to prick the top of cake and spoon over the rest of the honey

RHEOLAU / RULES HORTICULTURE

1. The Horticultural marquee will open for the staging of exhibits at 8.30am and will close at 12 noon when the judging will begin. 2. The exhibition will close at 5.00pm. Exhibitors must not remove exhibits or they will forfeit their prize money and awards. This rule will be strictly enforced. Any exhibits remaining in the marquee after 6.30pm will be the responsibility of the exhibitor. 3. All exhibits in the marquee must be laid in their proper classes by 11.45am with the correct exhibitors number tab, stuck safely, on their entered exhibit in each class (No prizes will be awarded to incorrectly or non numbered exhibits.) Except stick section as they have there own entry system. 4. Exhibitors must pay strict attention to the wording of the competition and number of articles named in the schedule. This rule will be strictly enforced. 5. In local classes exhibitors must be resident within a 3 mile radius from Cilycwm square. 6. All fruit and vegetables must be grown and owned by the exhibitor. In local classes exhibitors gardens maybe inspected by the committee if there is any doubt. All cookery, handicraft and other exhibits MUST BE exhibitor's own work. 7. The Judge’s decision is final. In the event of a tie the competitors will toss a coin to decide the winner (except school children section). 8. If anyone objects to any prize award they must lodge a written statement of objection with a deposit of £10 to the Secretary before 4pm on the day of the Show. If the objection is not sustained they will forfeit their deposit. 9. No-one will be allowed to enter the Horticultural marquee until judging has finished, except the Secretary, Judges and their assistants. 10. The Committee will make careful arrangements for the protection of exhibits and will not be responsible for the loss, damage, or accident that any exhibitor or spectator may sustain. 11. Presentation of cups and awards will be made in the marquee as near to 4.30pm as possible. The Horticulture section will pay out prize money from 5.15pm on the day of the Show. Any money not collected by 6pm will be deemed as a donation. 12. The right is reserved to alter, supplement or cancel, any part of the programme or rules. 13. Anything not covered by the above will be dealt with by a Special Committee whose decision will be final.
