150th Anniversary of in In November 1864 the manuscript volume of Alice’s Adventures Under Ground, which later became Alice’s was completed with illustrations by the author Charles Dodgson who later became known as . To honor the 150th anniversary of one of the most popular and quoted books in English, The Norwalk Public Library will Celebrate Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with a series of programs and events the week of December 1st 2014.

Jabberwocky - at the Library in Children’s Activity Room

Tuesday Program for children ages 10-12. Dr. Bruce Kimmel will introduce an understanding of Lewis Carroll - not December 2 only as a great storyteller and poet, but as one of the great practitioners of the genre called literary nonsense. He will begin with a brief discussion of literary nonsense - the use of language to convey, 4:00 pm manipulate, and ultimately to undermine meaning. We then read/listen/discuss two of Carroll’s finest examples of this genre: The Mad (in Alice in Wonderland) and the poem , as explained by (in Through the Looking Glass).

Wednesday The Reader’s Choice Book Group at the Norwalk Senior Center December 3 The book group will discuss Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll with Library Programming 2:00 pm Specialist Cynde Bloom Lahey.

Children’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party - Children’s Activity Room Wednesday Children’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in the Activity Room for children ages 2-7. Silly hat making crafts December 3 and cookie party featuring a costume parade. Children may come dressed in a silly costume. 4:00 pm Registration required - limited to first 20 children. Parents are invited to attend.

Alice in Wonderland Movie Night for Teens and Adults at the Library Wednesday Tumble down the rabbit hole with Alice for a fantastical adventure with a new twist on one of the most beloved December 3 stories of all time. Alice (Mia Wasikowska), now 19 years old, returns to the whimsical world she first entered as a 6:15 pm- child and embarks on a journey to discover her true destiny. This wonderland is a world beyond your imagination. 8:15 pm Join the Mad Hatter (), the White Queen (), the Red Queen (), the (Michael Sheen) and more.

Thursday Books Sandwiched In Book Group in the Library’s Teen Room December 4 The monthly book group discusses Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by 12:00 pm - Lewis Carroll with Librarian Susannah Violino. 1:00 pm

Thursday PJs Pizza & A Movie Night in the Auditorium December 4 The Norwalk Public Library Children’s Department presents the animated classic Alice in Wonderland (Disney 5:45 pm - version) 60th Anniversary edition. Come enjoy one of our classic movies while eating pizza. $1 per person - 8:00 pm limited to first 80 people - no sign up.

Friday Resolved to Write Authors at a Mad Hatter's Tea Party in Auditorium December 5 Program for adults, teens and children Join our own Norwalk Public Library Resolved to Write Authors for a Mad 4:00 pm - Hatter's Tea Party as they share their original stories based on quotations from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. 5:30 pm Dress up in your craziest hat! Enjoy a High Tea!
