WELCOME TO INFO MOUNTAIN VIEW Inside Mountain View has cemented itself as an epicenter for 6 BY THE NUMBERS tech giants, new ideas and an ever-increasing culture of Demographics, housing values productivity. Home to NASA’s Ames Research Center, four Fortune 500 companies, 1,385 startups valued at over $5 million (that’s 103 more than last year) and ’s ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT expanding headquarters, it’s no surprise that the city 9 has been ranked among the Top 50 fastest growing Galleries, museums, performing arts centers economies in the the U.S. for the past two years. But the Castro Street dining community isn’t all about tech: Its A+ ratings for schools, outdoor activities, diversity and nightlife also have placed it among the Top 5 suburbs to live and raise a family. 14 COMMUNITY SERVICES The city includes award-winning schools, 8 miles of shoreline Assistance, resources, social services trails, a working farm, museums, performance centers, an amphitheater and Castro Street’s vibrant dining scene, which saw the opening of 10 new restaurants this year. 20 SENIORS On the flip side, the city’s economic prosperity has brought growing pains, mainly in the Activities, resources, medical services form of traffic and out-of-whack real estate prices. This year, the city earned D+ and F ratings for its high cost of living in multiple national surveys, including those conducted by Niche.com and areavibes.com. According to the surveys, the cost of living in Mountain View 22 OUTDOORS is 115 percent higher than the national average, with housing costs 329 percent above the Parks, recreational facilities national average. The city also ranks 55 percent higher than the statewide average.
