Liquid IT Petone Vs Lower Hutt City Central League 2021 | 3Pm, Friday April 2 | Memorial Park Proudly Supporting Petone FC Liquidit.Nz Chairman’S Corner Liquid IT Petone vs Lower Hutt City Central League 2021 | 3pm, Friday April 2 | Memorial Park Proudly supporting Petone FC liquidit.nz Chairman’s Corner elcome to the 2021 football season – great to be starting on time this Wyear :-) The club has assembled a great Liquid IT Men’s First Team Squad which will be tested in the Central League again this season and, with the carrot of National League football at the end of the year, the lads will be extra pumped to perform well. We welcome back old Petone players and new players alike to our squad, as well as celebrate the reappointment of coach Besim Balicevac and appointment of his new assistant Jeremy Field. Our Powerex Women’s W-League Team will be pushing hard this year to improve their position from last season with new coach Elliot Taylor. We have assembled a strong team with a couple of new players and most of last year’s players staying with us. Our Women’s Reserve Team is also strengthened this year to compete in the Capital Premier League with new coach Alex Austin. This is a solid squad of varying age, with older players able to support the younger ones in this tough competition. We also have a great Women’s U18 Development Squad – all players in our women’s senior programme being coached at a high standard and all competing for spots at the highest level possible. Elliot and Alex are working together with both teams to generate a true squad feeling. Our Men’s Reserve Team is looking strong this year too, with new coach Faiz Syed. Again, with a nice balance of younger and older players. This is another step up for this team after promotion to the Capital 1 League and we are really looking forward to seeing them perform well at this level. With some great support from Chris Hosnell and Kunal Chand, we have a solid group of payers in our Third Team playing in Cap 3 and our Fourth Team (the Untouchables) in Wellington 2. This group of players form part of our men’s senior football programme and will be treated as such this year with the opportunity to advance into higher teams on merit. We have a true squad culture again this season. The Powerex Tournament for the Hilton-Petone Cup was well run by Barry Pickering yet again and the finals are being held on Monday April 4. We have received some very positive feedback from participants about the tournament’s integrity and the effort that Barry puts in to manage it, particularly with all of the last-minute changes each week. Well done and thank you Barry and your team of volunteers that made this tournament work so well. We continue to be a part of the Capital Football Junior Development Programme with the support of our sponsor Mitre 10 MEGA. The Mitre 10 MEGA Petone Settlers Talent Centre has a new director this year, Ryan Edwards. Ryan is providing great leadership and looking to take the programme to the next level, as well as deliver great value to the participants and their parents. We have three Talent Development Programme (TDP) teams in grades U13, U15 and U17 and I’ll keep you updated on their progress through the season. Our Junior Club is huge again this year with so many volunteers making it enjoyable and fun for players and their families. The dedication to keeping children in our football community, engaged and improving their skills, is awesome to see. Our club is very proud of the opportunities we give to our young players to enable them to do as well as they can and advance into our senior football programmes. A big thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers and committee members that make this club function. Also, thanks to our existing sponsors who have stood by us again, and welcome to our six new sponsors as well. We are so lucky to have a strong community support base to enable us to be successful on so many levels. We’re all looking forward to another enjoyable and successful season, both on and off the field. In very similar fashion to the Super Club Competition played in the 1990s, the top four from Central League will advance to the national round which will comprise ten teams, from which a national champion will be determined in December. Preseason seems to have come and gone in a flash. In order to catch up and get back up to standard, the players have been putting in the hard work with an extra training session implemented. It is with great pleasure we announce that Jeremy Field will join our coaching staff this season. Jezza is well known to our Petone family and will be a huge asset for us this season. Sam Pickering and Hami Paranihi-Nuku will take on the roles of captain and vice-captain for the 2021 season. It is great to have these two homegrown players, with great experience, tackle such responsibility. As with every season there are some fresh new faces. Jake Harris returns to us this season from Hamilton Wanderers and Kieran McMinn arrives from East Coast Bays, Josh Zatorski from Lower Hutt, Lucas Richardson from North Shore, Brendan McMullen from Waikanae and Stanton Renwicks from Stop Out. The players are super excited about the season and look forward to playing at home and seeing you all cheering us on! It’s been a month since we played at Hutt Park. A tough away encounter at Wests, a Chatham Cup game in the polar wind tunnel at Wakefield Park against Island Bay and then another night game in freezing conditions against Lower Hutt at Fraser. Well it’s nice to be home and playing during the daytime — on grass! Season two back in Central League has seen an improved start to the campaign. In fact our last home defeat was close to a year ago on the 13th June 2015 against you guessed it — Napier City Rovers. This season has seen a host of yellows and reds being handed out—something like 8 reds in all games we’ve been involved in already! And that seems to be consistent with our Central and Capital Premier colleagues with a host of games being impacted in this way.

Welcome to Hutt Park. Another week off last weekend for our first team squad with our scheduled opposition Olympic playing in the Chatham Cup. It really does need some serious consideration from New Zealand Football with the impact on the league campaigns of those teams who are no longer in the Chatham Cup - which is of course the majority of teams around footballing circles! Last outing against Tawa was an unusual situation after a hard fought match and a good point. It was curious because it felt flat for many supporters as the result whilst admirable seemed insignificant; seeing we are already safely ensconced in the middle of the Central League pack after a tremendous start to the season. Over the last 3 or 4 years in Capital Premier we’ve always been near the top with our push for promotion back into Central League so every game seemed to have something riding on the result.

With North Wellington being eighth in the Central League and Petone sitting ninth, this is a big day for both teams in the search for valuable points. Petone, with a recent loss to Miramar and being knocked out of the Chatham Cup, now need to focus hard on the league and play to their full potential. Our Women’s First Team’s first home game of 2021 on May 8 resulted in their first three points of the season and they followed that up a win in the first round of the Kate Sheppard Cup on May 16. They play Wairarapa on the May 22 before their game against Vic Uni – we look forward to how many points they can get from those two games. It is fantastic to have the Wellington Phoenix back at Sky Stadium for the first time in over 12 months. They have been playing some great football at their new home over in Aussie – let’s hope they bring their best game back to Wellington and provide some great entertainment to their loyal supporters who will no doubt be at the game in record numbers.

A quick recap of the last two weekends – our Liquid IT Men’s First Team had a loss and a draw and now sit mid-table, Reserves two good wins, Third Team two losses and Fourth Team two wins and sit nicely on top of the Wellington 3 table. Our Powerex Women’s First Team had two wins and sit near the top of the W-League, Reserves two losses and U18 Team a win and a loss, so this development team is going really well. Our closed-shop teams had a mix of results over the two weeks. But from the vibe in the clubrooms, they are all loving being out playing football again. With a full round of games for all of our teams except masters this week due to the school holidays, we have an exciting weekend ahead of us. The main game today is our Liquid IT Petone Men’s First Team against Waterside Karori – both teams needing points to rise up the league table. The curtain raiser is Petone Reserves versus Waterside Karori Third Team – so hopefully a lot of support for both teams here today. And continuing the theme, next weekend (July 18) our Powerex Women’s First Team also host Waterside Karori.

It’s a warm Hutt Park welcome to Palmerston North Marist. The last time we met was in the Central League playoffs at the end of the 2013 season. Hutt Park was deemed unplayable and our home match was played on the artificial pitch at Memorial Park. Marist were successful in that series with a home win and a draw at Petone. Well that was then and a season on we finally got the job done and have returned to Central League after our playoff series victory against Wanganui Athletic. It’s been a satisfactory start in Central League with 2 wins, 6 points and the side sitting in 5th spot. But with some strong performances there just may have been a few extra points that may have come our way.

Two-and-a-half months later Wthan normal, but great to have a full season ahead of us playing through to October. The last few months have been crazy and I do hope everyone has kept active and well during this period. I also hope our Men’s and Women’s First Team squads have kept up their fitness, which they all worked so hard on up to lockdown – we’ll see how they hold up in the next few weeks :-) The club has assembled a great Men’s squad again who will be tested in the Central League this year and, as always, our ambition is to do well backing up our glorious promotion success last year. We welcome back old and new players to our squad as well as our new First Team coach Charlie Howe and his assistant Kieran Cripps. Our Women’s W-League Team has been strengthened with some new players enhancing our solid base from last year. We have strong ambition to also do well in the W-League and with coach Kevin Torres we are excited about the year ahead. We have had a good start, last week beating Wellington United 1-0 in the quarterfinal of the Kelly Cup – a good sign of things to come. Our Women’s Reserve Team has also strengthened this year to compete in the Capital Premier League with coach Roger Torres.

A great win for our Men’s Firsts against Wainui a couple of weeks back, getting some valuable points as we enter the second half of the season. Our Men’s Reserve Team had a valuable win last weekend against Kapiti Coast United showing that they can get back on track and pick up a lot more points in round two, after completing round one today against top-of-the-table Stop Out. Our Powerex Petone Women’s Firsts got another point against Victoria University a couple of weeks back, but got knocked out of the Kate Sheppard Cup on penalties last week. Currently in the middle of the table, some points today against the top team in the W-League are much sought after, following a very close loss away in the first round. Our very young Women’s Reserve Team continues to gain experience every week while striving for a solid second round in Capital Premier. As we are halfway through the season for most teams, here is a snapshot of where everyone is sitting: Men’s Thirds (Cap 3) – top by eight points (seven wins and one draw) Stonecutters (Cap 4) – sixth after seven games Argh Me Knees (Masters 1) – first-equal (six wins and one loss) Left Over Stews (Masters 4) – top by six points (eight wins out of eight) Mighty Masters (Masters 5) – seventh Dreamers (Master Over 45s) – eighth Women’s U18 – third TDP Under 17 – sixth 3 4 TDP Under 15 – seventh TDP Under 13 – fourth The Dave Agent Memorial Darts Night is on tonight and a big thank you to Greg Revell for organising.
