Liquid IT Petone vs Western Suburbs Central League 2020 | 3pm, Saturday October 3 | Memorial Park Proudly supporting Petone FC liquidit.nz Chairman’s Corner elcome to Western Suburbs playing our Liquid IT Petone Men’s First Team Wtoday and, as always, a big welcome to all of our loyal supporters and opposition supporters. Also, a special welcome to Douglas Villa and Stokes Valley competing in the masters tournament here today. Our Men’s First Team had a great 3-1 win against Stop Out two weeks ago but then a loss to Olympic. We are still in the relegation zone, but a win today would make us safe – or, if other results go our way we will also be secure – and can then start planning for next year in the Central League. The Powerex Petone W-League Team managed to get 20 points during the season, which is almost three times the amount achieved last year. A few key injuries and a little bit of bad luck prevented the team from achieving a higher place in the league. The work done by the players and coaching staff show that the team continues to improve. Unfortunately, the season ended with a loss to Wairarapa in the Kelly Cup semifinals. It was a game in which we showed to be the superior footballing side, but with luck not on our side, we conceded an unfortunate goal with ten minutes left. I am extremely proud of our team and the way they played the game, their determination and grit. Even with everything not going our way the team fought until the final whistle. The Premier League Squad started the season with almost a brand new team from the previous year when they were playing in Division 1. It took them some time to blend together and find balance, but they managed to get five wins and ended up mid-table. The first year of Petone’s U18 Girls’ programme was a success with the team winning eight games. They also held the second-best defensive record. Over the year we saw them improve as individuals and as a team, winning their last three games. Overall it was an excellent season for the women’s programme and we would like to thank everyone who made this season happen, from the Petone executive to the sponsors that allow us to take the field. Kevin Torres Women’s First Team coach U17s Report ur U17 Talent Development Programme (TDP) Team managed to finish Otheir season on a high, winning 4-2 in the plate semifinal against Miramar in a battle of fifth versus eighth in the U17 Capital Development League. Unfortunately, the plate final against Western Suburbs Red was cancelled due to the horrendous weather last Sunday, so our chance at winning some silverware disappeared. Finishing with a win was an apt conclusion to our season, as the team’s improvement week on week finally produced a tangible result. We hadn’t won a game all season till that point, so Shea Stapleton and I were ecstatic for the group that their hard work paid off in the end. Our team managed to put up impressive periods or halves of football against some very talented teams, but while often falling short at the end. Although results often didn’t go our way, the growth of the players over the course of the season was evident and their application to training sessions and gamedays never wavered. Shea and I were very proud to have eight registered U17 players involved in the Men’s Reserve Team squad for large parts of the season. It demonstrates the quality of young players that we have coming through the system and proves that the U17 programme is doing its job in acting as a pathway for our young players to progress into senior football. We have a large, young core of the squad who are still eligible for the U17 programme next season and we have some talented players coming through from the U15s. Shea and I are both looking forward to working with this group again and building on the improvements made this year.
