It’s a warm Hutt Park welcome to Western Suburbs. The last time our first teams met here was in the Chatham Cup fixture on the 12th May 2012 and on that day we were victorious with a 3-1 victory. Still at the club from that day and in the first team mix are Jason Tipping, Brandon Tai, Matt Clarke, Damon Fussell and Alistair Yates. Plus the goal scorers that day Steven Gulley and Martin Packer who should be out on the park today which reinforces our club ethos of player loyalty. Nice to see but sadly not common around local footballing circles. Whilst some things remain constant quite a lot has changed since that day. The obvious one is that we’re now back in Central League and sitting comfortably in 5th place. Many feel this team has a lot more improvement in it which will ultimately deliver more consistent performances and results. Wests too with their Ole influence are a vastly different side and club than a few years back. Sitting second in the league a good result today to keep in touch with Napier is crucial for their title aspirations. Celebrating Steve’s winner against Petone The Stop Out club is building quite nicely in 2015 with the 2nds—traditional slow starters meeting one of the title favourites Stokes Valley in the early game on #2. This is a very young side with a sprinkling of experience but developing into a very competitive unit. And great to see Stokes Valley getting more successful in the top leagues! Marty Dutton’s 3rds remain unbeaten and lead Capital 6.They too are at Hutt Park in another early game against North Wellington on #3. A frightening 32 for and 1 against goal tally shows just how well this side is playing. In the main game on #3 Lenny’s Masters Blacks are looking to consolidate top spot in Masters 5. And the late game on #2 sees the Reds side in their first year back in Masters 1 taking on North Wellington aiming to consolidate their 3rd place position. And a wee warning. Hurry into the clubrooms after the games to quickly reserve a seat as those Masters boys get very thirsty after their matches and it could be standing room only! 3 Enjoy the football on offer and enjoy our Stop Out hospitality! Tomorrow sees the 7th and 8th graders and next weekend it’s the turn of the 9th and 10th graders. Over 80 teams from around the Wellington region will descend on Hutt Park for our annual junior tournament now in its 22nd year. Get along and watch some great football — and yes the results will count! It’s a very warm welcome home to Stop Out junior Welc0me home Hags Michael Hagarty. Mike is currently studying and playing at Charleston University in West Virginia. Last season they were in the Division 2 National Championship. Charleston are in the top 2 schools in the whole of the USA. Mike will return to the States and all going well graduates next May but in the meantime he’s back wearing the red Mike’s 14th grade 5 and gold of Stop Out. Federation photo. Nice to see! Women’s Update Last week saw a little bit of history created, our Women’s CL team earned their first ever point at this level of competition. After an introductory month of tough love against highly fancied (and experienced sides) the team is into a run of games against the teams around them on the league table. Last weekend was a 2-2 draw versus the auld enemy of BNU, while this weekend they are on the road to Moturoa of New Plymouth chasing a first win. Their next home game is June 7th when they host (currently bottom placed) Valeron of Palmerston North. Two goals from youngster Ella Vincent-Hyde looked to have won last week’s encounter with BNU at Wakefield. The second goal was worth the price of admission with a delightful chip from outside the box on the right into the top left corner leaving the GK flapping like a seal. Sadly, a ref’s call we’ll never agree with changed the final outcome to 2-2 as BNU scored in the 90th minute. That aside, from my place on the side-line it was great to at long last see long standing club players Mel’ Macdougall, Kathryn Burt, Alysa Darby, April Gallagher, Amalia Lipdis, Jessie Fussell, Aimee Sanson and Natasha Ingram in our bold red club shirt playing at the region’s highest level. Also it’s been great to watch two of our junior teams of all girls playing on a Saturday morning. Mike Houlihan and his 12th grade team have started the winter well, some great results and importantly enjoying their football education and progress. The team travel under the moniker of Stop Out Bremner, a tip of the hat to our first ever Women’s football centurion (100 games for the club Who in this pic has played 50 not 100 years old that is), Steph Bremner. Women’s matches? In the 13th grade regional Travel League are the Stop Out Ninja’s. New to the club, they’re a group of very keen girls who wanted to play together in a winter league that we were pleased to be able to assist.
