Our focus continues to be on our ’Football for All’ philosophy and in 2016 our Senior numbers are consistent with 5 Men’s teams, 3 Masters and 3 Women’s teams. And proudly we are the only club in the Wellington region with Women’s and Men’s Central League teams—and no Wellington United with their Nix influence , do not count as a Men’s Central League club. There has been significant growth in our junior ranks. Playing numbers are one thing, however we are putting a greater focus on the player experience of our youngsters and development of our junior coaches to foster a culture second to none in the region. -

It’s been a month since we played at Hutt Park. A tough away encounter at Wests, a Chatham Cup game in the polar wind tunnel at Wakefield Park against Island Bay and then another night game in freezing conditions against Lower Hutt at Fraser. Well it’s nice to be home and playing during the daytime — on grass! Season two back in Central League has seen an improved start to the campaign. In fact our last home defeat was close to a year ago on the 13th June 2015 against you guessed it — Napier City Rovers. This season has seen a host of yellows and reds being handed out—something like 8 reds in all games we’ve been involved in already! And that seems to be consistent with our Central and Capital Premier colleagues with a host of games being impacted in this way. -

Welcome to Hutt Park. Another week off last weekend for our first team squad with our scheduled opposition Olympic playing in the Chatham Cup. It really does need some serious consideration from New Zealand Football with the impact on the league campaigns of those teams who are no longer in the Chatham Cup - which is of course the majority of teams around footballing circles! Last outing against Tawa was an unusual situation after a hard fought match and a good point. It was curious because it felt flat for many supporters as the result whilst admirable seemed insignificant; seeing we are already safely ensconced in the middle of the Central League pack after a tremendous start to the season. Over the last 3 or 4 years in Capital Premier we’ve always been near the top with our push for promotion back into Central League so every game seemed to have something riding on the result. -

Our Men’s First Team had a great 3-1 win against Stop Out two weeks ago but then a loss to Olympic. We are still in the relegation zone, but a win today would make us safe – or, if other results go our way we will also be secure – and can then start planning for next year in the Central League. Liquid IT Petone vs Waterside Karori Central League 2020 | 3pm, Saturday July 11 | Memorial Park Powerex Petone vs Waterside Karori W-League 2020 | 1pm, Saturday July 18 | Memorial Park Proudly supporting Petone FC liquidit.nz Chairman’s Corner elcome Waterside Karori to Petone FC and welcome all of our loyal Wsupporters as well as opposition supporters. A quick recap of the last two weekends – our Liquid IT Men’s First Team had a loss and a draw and now sit mid-table, Reserves two good wins, Third Team two losses and Fourth Team two wins and sit nicely on top of the Wellington 3 table. Our Powerex Women’s First Team had two wins and sit near the top of the W-League, Reserves two losses and U18 Team a win and a loss, so this development team is going really well. Our closed-shop teams had a mix of results over the two weeks. But from the vibe in the clubrooms, they are all loving being out playing football again. With a full round of games for all of our teams except masters this week due to the school holidays, we have an exciting weekend ahead of us. The main game today is our Liquid IT Petone Men’s First Team against Waterside Karori – both teams needing points to rise up the league table. The curtain raiser is Petone Reserves versus Waterside Karori Third Team – so hopefully a lot of support for both teams here today. And continuing the theme, next weekend (July 18) our Powerex Women’s First Team also host Waterside Karori. -

It’s a warm Hutt Park welcome to Palmerston North Marist. The last time we met was in the Central League playoffs at the end of the 2013 season. Hutt Park was deemed unplayable and our home match was played on the artificial pitch at Memorial Park. Marist were successful in that series with a home win and a draw at Petone. Well that was then and a season on we finally got the job done and have returned to Central League after our playoff series victory against Wanganui Athletic. It’s been a satisfactory start in Central League with 2 wins, 6 points and the side sitting in 5th spot. But with some strong performances there just may have been a few extra points that may have come our way.
