At the outset I would like to thank all of the people The Football Ferns continued to delight – while their World Cup campaign was not as strong as anticipated, who have made me feel so welcome in this role. this team has done an awful lot to promote the game in New Zealand. Being the father of two teenage boys who watched all of the Football Ferns’ games (and most of the rest of the tournament) made me On the international stage, football has been a game in turmoil throughout 2015. At long last the reign of acutely conscious of the considerable appeal of the women’s game; something that we must continue to Sepp Blatter came to an inglorious end and a clean-up has been promised. The game desperately needs capitalise on. I am certain that no other women’s sport has such appeal to a young, male audience and this is strong leadership and integrity. On a personal level, I was incredibly impressed with the members; we are fortunate to have the considerable commitment of this group of dedicated administrators. extraordinary diligence of Board members and staff at New Zealand Football as the position was reviewed My special thanks go to the retiring member, Bill Moran, and to Deryck Shaw who has chaired the Committee with great care and precision. While there was nothing easy about accepting the position, I have no doubt since the 2015 Congress. that this was the right decision; and many people were involved in working through all of the issues that were relevant, devoting many hours of time to explore the legalities of the decision. Like all of us, I was profoundly As I look to the future, I sincerely hope that FIFA will be stronger and the game in better hands. Closer to sorry for the players and management team who have missed the opportunity to represent New Zealand at home, the focus will be on the All Whites’ OFC Nations Cup campaign and the Football Ferns’ performance the Olympic Games. At all times during the review process, the people charged with reviewing the position at the Rio Olympics. I wish all of the players well – they partake with our full support and very best wishes. had the players’ interests at the forefront. Garth Gallaway Above all, it is imperative that no New Zealand Football team is ever able to be challenged in this way Honorary President again. The consequences are potentially grave and a rigorous system is vital.
