    chapter 10 Hermeneutics and the Early Modern Garden: Ingenuity, Sociability, Education Denis Ribouillault 1 Historiography The question of meaning in landscape architecture and gardens has benefited considerably from the iconological approach developed for art history by Aby Warburg and Erwin Panofsky. The most important contributions were produced by students of Panofsky, notably David Coffin, who published his monograph on the Villa d’Este at Tivoli in 1960, and Elizabeth Blair McDougall, who wrote her dissertation on the Villa Mattei in Rome. Coffin taught and inspired a new generation of scholars such as Claudia Lazzaro for Italian Renaissance gardens and Jan de Jongh for early modern Dutch gardens. Italian and German schol- ars (Eugenio Battisti, Marcello Fagiolo, Maria Luisa Madonna, Detlef Heikamp, Karl Schwager, among others) also embraced the iconological approach, study- ing the garden within a broader cultural and literary context bringing to the fore the question of its meaning.1 The idea that the garden was designed with a specific programme became a central idea. David Coffin showed convinc- ingly that the design of the Villa d’Este gardens rested on the figure of Hercules and his Choice at the Crossroads: ‘The gardens […] present the theme of the choice of Hercules between Voluptas, represented by the Grotto of Venus, and Virtue, exemplified by the Grotto of Diana. It is possible even that the general layout of the gardens may have been conditioned by this subject. OSSERVAZIONI MANCA LA MOTIVAZIONE PER LA LOCALIZZAZIONE DELL’IMPIANTO Nello studio di impatto ambientale [SIA], la localizzazione del progetto è data per scontata, di conseguenza esso studia solo le ragioni per cui “il progetto non trova impedimenti nella sua realizzazione nel sito indicato”. Non vengono confrontate e valutate altre possibili localizzazioni (anche al di fuori del territorio comunale di Udine), non viene considerata la storia di quel luogo e nemmeno l’effetto “sommatoria” per il territorio immediatamente sottovento; ai progettisti non pare degno di considerazione il fatto che un’attività potenzialmente “odorigena” (nel senso di “generatrice di puzza insopportabile e ricorrente”) per rispetto verso un territorio vicino, più volte sottoposto a diverse forme di offesa, non debba essere collocata nel punto più sopravento possibile per chi la realizza (in questo caso, il comune di Udine). Il territorio del Comune di Pozzuolo è sottoposto da decenni a varie “aggressioni” da parte dei comuni vicini più “forti”, aggressioni che vengono di volta in volta motivate e spiegate — così anche in questo caso — con la necessità di fornire spazio allo sviluppo e al progresso della cosiddetta “area vasta”.

    Comune di CODROIPO ECOCALENDARIO 2021 LA FAUNA CAMBIA ASSECONDIAMO IL NATURALE RECUPERO DELLA BIODIVERSITÀ IL RITORNO DI ALCUNE SPECIE ANIMALI E IL NATURALE RECUPERO DELLA BIODIVERSITÀ In un momento storico di crisi ecologica globale, dovuta al riscaldamento climatico, all’inquinamento, all’esplosione demografi ca di Homo sapiens e alla sua grande invadenza in tutti gli ecosistemi mondiali, su scala locale si assiste a un fenomeno inverso, per certi versi strabiliante, ovvero al ritorno sul territorio di alcune specie animali, prima scomparse o quasi estinte. In ambito europeo, l’Italia è un paese ad elevata biodiversità e il Friuli Venezia Giulia, in particolare, è una delle regioni più ricche di habitat e specie. Il ritorno di questi animali è, quindi, senza dubbio un segnale positivo per l’integrità degli ecosistemi, per la biodiversità e per l’ambiente nel suo complesso. Le cause di questo fenomeno sono diverse. In alcuni casi assistiamo, infatti, a ritorni autonomi, favoriti dall’espansione del bosco, dalla riduzione dell’inquinamento da pesticidi e da Leggi di protezione; in altri casi a reintroduzioni volute dall’uomo e collegate ad un atteggiamento più sensibile nei confronti dell’ambiente e della biodiversità; ci sono, infi ne, casi di colonizzazione spontanea da Est. Nelle diverse pagine di questo calendario vengono illustrati gli esempi più rappresentativi ed eccezionali avvenuti nella nostra regione riguardo a questi ritorni. I cambiamenti della presenza degli animali negli ecosistemi costituiscono un processo naturale di recupero della biodiversità, che è necessario favorire e gestire. In ogni caso, è opportuno tenere in considerazione anche i rifl essi di alcune di queste presenze su diverse attività economiche e sociali, che necessitano di un’equilibrata regolazione normativa e gestionale.
