She’s a spunky gal and we love her dearly. May God continue to bless our Anna Nagy with good health and happiness!

A “Resident Profile” will not be featured this month, and we apologize. Stay tuned for the September issue for a wonderful profile of Flor Urso. Thank you !

Congratulations Joann Poremba, Office Manager, and Amy Farenholz, LPN, who celebrated 20 years and 5 years of service, respectively, with the Campus of Anna Maria. Both of these lovely ladies were surprised with a cake and many kind and congratulatory words. Employees like these are the backbone of our organization, and we can’t thank them enough for their dedication. You are appreciated. AKRON RUBBER DUCKS Though the Rubber Ducks are not having a very good season (they are in last place), it’s still a lot of fun heading out to the ball game! Anna Maria and Kensington residents watched the Ducks take on the Bowie Baysox on Friday, July 12. A most beautiful evening weather-wise, and though the Ducks lost (sigh), residents really enjoyed themselves. A spectacular fireworks display followed the game. Activities Supervisor (and bus driver for the evening) Lisa McFarland caught a foul ball! We did enjoy our peanuts and Cracker Jack!

4 Family Matters Summer 2019 August Edition Family Matters Summer 2019 August Edition 5 BURGER KING AND ICE CREAM SANDWICHES Once a month, Anna Maria and Kensington residents enjoy “fast food” for dinner. Whether its burgers and fries from McDonald’s, Burger King, or Wendy’s, pizza from Pizza Hut, or a roast beef sandwich from Arby’s, it’s always delicious and brings a smile to many a face. July’s featured “fast food” was cheeseburgers and fries from Burger King, followed by ice cream sandwiches for dessert. Perhaps we’ll try Chinese next month? One never knows!

Anna Maria resident Delano Orsini was a chef back in his working days (and a very good one at that) , and every now and then, Delano gets a hankering to “get back in the kitchen.” When this hanker- ing happens, our wonderful activities staff will assist Delano in preparing spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic bread. Who gets to enjoy this delicious food? Delano and his family, and few lucky staff members!

4 Family Matters Summer 2019 August Edition Family Matters Summer 2019 August Edition 5 ABOARD THE MYSTIC BELLE Anna Maria and Kensington residents took a trek out to the historic Vermilion River in (where else) Vermilion, Ohio, and boarded the Mystic Belle for a three-hour tour. No, not out to Gilligan’s Island, but rather a wonderful and interesting scenic cruise down the Vermilion River. The boat cruised past working marinas, boat yards, and fabulous riverfront houses. The river is home to an amazing assort- ment of wildlife like Canadian geese, ducks, and white and blue herons. We could not have asked for a nice day. Many thanks to our wonderful activities staff for planning such wonderful excursions for our residents to enjoy!

If you guessed ladybugs, Maria, Arborview), came in one afternoon to visit you guessed correctly. Anna Maria residents and play. Residents, staff members, and visi- learned a few interesting facts about these bugs tors really enjoyed her silly antics and hope she (actually, a ladybug is a beetle, not a bug) and returns again soon. what an important part they play in the insect eco-system. Afterwards, an adorable ladybug was crafted out of a plastic cup.

I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM… We all scream for ICE CREAM! One hot, sunny afternoon, Activities Director Bridget Sassa decid- ed to take a few residents out for ice cream. She navigated the bus to the nearest ice cream store, which just happened to be Handel’s Ice Cream in Twinsburg. Nothing beats a cool cone on a hot summer day!

6 Family Matters Summer 2019 August Edition Family Matters Summer 2019 August Edition 7 MARY, MARY, QUITE CONTRARY…. How does your garden grow? Very nicely, thank you very much! The vegetable garden in the Main Courtyard at Anna Maria is looking good enough to eat! Still a little green, however, we hope to have a nice selection of produce soon! Nothing quite like fresh vegetables from a garden.

WOW, DOES THAT LOOK NICE! Want to feel like you’re at the beach, with the sun setting and the waves gently lapping at your sandy toes? The new furniture in the Kensington at Anna Maria front entrance living room is very soothing and calming, and oh, so comfortable. Okay, it’s not as good as being on the beach, but we think you’ll like just relaxing and enjoying the comfort of this new furniture as you read the paper, check your phone, chatting with your loved ones, etc. (The furniture was purchased at Textile & Timber Home Furnishings in Aurora).

WATCH OUT! LAURA IS AT WORK!

CAUTION!

Housekeeper Laura Smith does an excel- lent job maintaining the cleanliness of our facility. Though she’s a hard worker, she has a great sense of humor and keeps our residents laughing and smiling.

Over 500 flags are displayed and proudly flown year-round. What a wonderful way to show respect to those service- men who gave their lives for our freedom. Also on display is the Olympic torch which made its way through the city of Eastlake to Atlanta, GA, for the 1996 Summer Olympics.

A tram ride is the best way to view the area, and we took full advantage of the free ride. We viewed amazing old-growth trees, wildflowers, bees, and butterflies. Nature at its best!

Nestled in the heart of Northeast Ohio’s Amish Coun- try, Mary Yoder’s is located in Middlefield in Geauga County, and is the 4th largest Amish community in the world. Mary Yoder’s features home-cooked, family-style meals like fried chicken, roast beef and turkey, and pork. No meal is complete without a slice of pie. No wonder we enjoy this restau- rant so much!
