Building Hope, Lives and Communities

Mission Statement Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles builds and renovates homes in partnership with God and people everywhere with a goal of eliminating substandard housing by making decent, affordable housing a matter of conscience and action in our communities.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” Matthew 5: 4-15 • Founded in 1990, HFH GLA has built, rehabilitated and repaired almost 500 homes throughout the greater Los Angeles area. • Last year, HFH GLA completed 108 homes with the help of over 10,000 volunteers. •Habitat for Humanity has completed over 800,000 homes worldwide and is the leading advocate for affordable housing. • Habitat for Humanity is the largest private homebuilder in the country. HFH GLA does not give-away our houses. We carefully select families and individuals for each house we build or rehabilitate. Selection is non-discriminatory; race, color, ethnic origin, religion, sex and family composition are not factors. In addition to an affordable, zero interest mortgage, applicants must meet the following qualifications: • Must demonstrate need. Homebuyers must be low-income, earning between 30-80% of area median income for LA County. • Must have good credit. • Must be willing to participate in HFH GLA & HUD education programs. • Must partner with HFH GLA by investing up to 500 hours of sweat equity into the construction and/or rehabilitation of their home. • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal U.S. resident.  Faith partners can join together for a common cause and make a significant impact on creating safe, decent and affordable housing in the Los Angeles area.  Over the past 9 years, 20 Los Angeles area Lutheran partners have come together to raise a $150,000 sponsorship and help build a HFH GLA home each year.  Several Long Beach area Methodist churches and Presbyterian churches across Los Angeles also followed a similar model and sponsored a full house in their local community.

 Help rally greater LA Catholic churches together to help build one of three homes located at 215 E. El Segundo Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA.* Other possible locations for location of the home could include 3305 Magnolia Ave. in Lynwood, 3193 Euclid Ave. in Lynwood, or 11720 Compton Ave. in Los Angeles, or .  Catholic Parishes and organizations will each contribute to help raise $150,ooo a full house sponsorship.  Rally volunteer groups to help build the home. Different churches will come out for build days between summer 2014-Christmas 2015  Pray for the homes and for the partner homeowner.

“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In Him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” Ephesians 2: 19-22
