3 iagpower50.com STANDING TOGETER IN 2020

As we gradually emerge from crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, our industry is starting to look towards brighter days ahead. Despite the difficulties in holding events at this time, we at Inside Asian Gaming feel it is important to hold the 2020 Asian Gaming Power 50 Gala Dinner.

This year represents the 13th straight year in which IAG has produced the Asian Gaming Power 50 and in that time it has established a reputation not only as the definitive guide to the most influential people in Asian gaming but a lasting record of achievement. Having been through so much together in 2020, it has perhaps never been more important than now to come together again in recognition of a year none of us will ever forget.

The 2020 Asian Gaming Power 50 Gala Dinner is likely to be the only major social event of its type in 2020 and as such promises to be at the very top of this year’s wish list for the who’s who of gaming. As always, a high-quality video of the Gala Dinner will be produced and made publicly available afterwards.

Due to practical difficulties for international travel, this year’s event will be a particularly Macau-centric one, with the emcees, the live band, the production support crew and the entertainers all being Macau-based. We have decided to turn this into a positive by supporting local Macau-grown talent while still holding the event to the high international standards it has come to be know for.

12 iagpower50.com HOW IS THE ASIAN GAMING POWER 50 JUDGED?

The Asian Gaming Power 50 list is judged by an esteemed panel of nine hand-selected judges with decades of industry experience:

Andrew W Scott Vice Chairman and CEO Inside Asian Gaming (Panel Chairman) Ben Blaschke Managing Editor Inside Asian Gaming Muhammad Cohen Editor-at-Large Inside Asian Gaming David Green Principal Newpage Consulting Constance Hsu Director Cheng Ying Group Desmond Lam Professor in IR and Tourism University of Macau Management Melina Leong Managing Director Yeewood Consultancy Limited Rui Pinto Proença Partner MdME Lawyers Michael Zhu SVP, International Operations, The Innovation Group Planning and Analysis

The judges examine each gaming business in the Asian gaming industry and assign one point for each US$1 million in GGR. Those points are then allocated between the organisation’s key one, two or more key executives. Scores are then adjusted up or down for a multitude of positive and negative factors. The final stage of the judging process involves examining the list for reasonableness and looking at key head to head match ups and making appropriate minor adjustments.

The judging process is arduously long and intense, and usually takes some 60 person hours over the period July to October. Typically emails totally some 15,000 words are written between the judges during the process.
