Biography The tenor Marcus Ullmann was born in Olbernhau near Dresden. He started singing as a member of the famous Dresden Kreuzchor at the age of ten, thereafter studying with Hartmut Zabel and Margret Trappe-Wiel at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden. Later he studied with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau in Berlin and with Marga Schiml in Karlsruhe. Graduating with distinction, he soon was a guest singer at the German Opera Houses Staatstheater Mainz and Semperoper Dresden. The following engagements included roles at the Teatro La Fenice, Opera House Rome, Teatro Communale Firence and Los Angeles Opera. He also appeared as Nero in Monteverdi's "L'incoronazione di Poppea" at the Boston Early Music Festival. He has performed as a concert singer widely throughout Europe, in North and South America, in Africa and in Japan. Conductors with whom he has worked in a range of repertoire include Frieder Bernius, Ivor Bolton, Frans Brüggen, Riccardo Chailly, Marcus Creed, Enoch zu Guttenberg, Ludwig Güttler, Sigiswald Kuijken, Kent Nagano, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Helmuth Rilling and Peter Schreier. He often sang with the Dresden Kreuzchor, the Windsbach Knabenchor and the Thomanerchor Leipzig. After his „debut“ in 2014, Marcus Ullmann will return to São Paolo in 2017, performing once again with the São Paolo Symphony Orchestra. Another highlight in this year is the world premiere of Karsten Gundermann’s „Des Menschen Wille“ in the opening concert of the „Klosterkonzerte Maulbronn“. As a recitalist, Marcus Ullmann has been a guest at such festivals as the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, the European Music Festival Stuttgart, Kuhmo in Finland, the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, the Moritzburg Chamber Music Festival and many others both in Germany and internationally. He has also given recitals at the Salzburger Festspiele, the Wigmore Hall London, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Opera House Cairo, as well as the Musashino Shimin Bunka Kaikan Hall in Tokyo. Most frequently he works with Alexander Schmalcz and Martin Stadtfeld. This year, together with Martin Stadtfeld, Marcus Ullmann will give a recital at Schloss Morsbroich and in 2018 in the chamber music series „Vier Jahreszeiten“ in Meilen. Radio and TV broadcasts - for example Bach's b-minor Mass with La Chapelle Rhénane (Radio France) and in 2017 „Bach Cantatas in Vorarlberg“ (ORF) - as well as numerous recordings reveal his talent. Recently released were the world’s premiere recording of Dvoraks „Cypresses“ as well as Bach Cantatas with "Il Gardellino“. ..
