Day 2. ECB resumed it’s first innings at 51/3 having lost Andy Lane to the last ball of Day 1. Billy Sanger, recruited from our Reserves to replace the injured Ganesh, was in his element. Billy, a Taranaki lad, bowled superbly and captured his first Premier 5 wicket bag. Rav, too, bowled magnificently – wickets fell regularly and only a last wicket stand of 42 held up our capturing of 1st innings points. Not a great PCC 2nd innings aside from Tim’s exceptional contribution. Wickets fell willy nilly – 4/31 when theSkipper came to the crease and, with Tim, settled things down. Tim just carried on in unruffled style – runs coming steadily until Dave departed at 118 with a declararation imminent. Tim then unleashed - hitting 20 off an over to bring up his second ton of the game and enabled Dave to declare. The target – 229 needed off approximately 37 overs. ECB came to the party – needing points desperatly they attacked from the start. The first wicket put on 48 quick runs but, from there they were in strife. Whilst Billy got some stick, Rav bowled magnificently, Dave tempted them and then Tom Hills and Sam Varcoe chimed in very opportunely. Andy Lane, aided by Smith, kept their score moving but ECB was never really in the hunt. The outright win has brought Parnell to the top of the Table and all now rests with the final game against Takapuna over the next two Saturdays.

Premier Reserves

5 & 12 March PARNELL vs. BIRKENHEAD Birkenhead War Memorial Park

BIRKENHEAD 210 Rudi Bisschoff 5/43 (14), Stu Wood 4/59 (34.1) & 170/7 dec. Joe Kinghorn-Gray 3/19 (7), Stu Wood 3/51 (14) PARNELL 205 Justin Rosenberg 88 (193), Sam Fastier 47 (78) & 102/6 Sam Fastier 47 (19) RESULT: MATCH DRAWN – 1st innings points to Birkenhead . Falling short of a 1st innings points by just 6 runs, the Reserves, very sadly, lost any opportunity of heading their Table and earning promotion to the upper, or Major, tier. The Minor tier is not the best platform to provide support for our Prems – a very important aspect of Reserve play. And despite coming up from what is, in reality, 4th Grade (2 Premier tiers, 2 Reserve tiers) those that have been called to the Prems all have done well or, at the very least, “have not let the side down”. Billy Sanger, in particular, excelled but the difference in standard beteen the grades is alarming – Sam Varcoe hit 163 for the Reserves but couldn’t repeat last season’s form when back with the Prems. Ben Rainger struggled for runs when promoted and had no opportunity to bowl (nor repeat his 6/13 which he took for the Reserves). Ben, however, has gained hugely from his Prem experiences and has fielded for them outstandingly. Commenting on this last game – great to see Sam Fastier back with us after performing very usefully for Taranaki with scores of 10, 47, 46, and 31 (out of 127). Sam, time you knocked up a 50+ or, better still, 3 figures! And Stu Wood – into his 35th over on the trot (must have been more of a crawl for the last 2 or 3!). What stamina! Stu, are you in training to emulate Pete Legget in the next Ironman?

Thirds – Senior 2B Grade

5 & 12 March PARNELL vs. EAST COAST BAYS Freyberg Park

PARNELL 88 Ryan Bergman 24 & 149/2 Matt Vercoe-Curtis 73*, Ben Gresson 27, Josh Milne 23* BIRKENHEAD 190/7 dec. Elliot Humphries 3/32 (7) RESULT: MATCH DRAWN – 1st innings points to Birkenhead

Skipper Pete Hickman reporting: The 3rds travelled to East Coast Bays having already lost first innings, but seeking to redeem ourselves, which I am pleased to say we did. ECB declared earlier than expected, with a lead of 108 and just under 6 hours left to play. Pick of the bowlers was Elliot Humphries, who picked up 3 wickets from his 7 overs for 32 runs. Also successful debuts for Richard Calver and Arthur Pickthorn, both picking up wicket each. With the conditions not favouring batting, the decision was made to try and bat out the day to earn the draw. In a fantastic display, our top 4 all delivered. Finishing the day at 134 for 2 from 66 overs. Scott Hillman and Ben Gresson opened the batting, Scott finishing 11 from 33, Ben 27 from 89. Matthew Vercoe-Curtis came in at 3 for what would be one of the innings of our season, finishing 73 from 179 balls, batting for nearly five and a half hours. He was well supported by Ben, then Josh Milne coming in at 4, who finished 23 from 106 balls. Overall a great days play, especially from our top order.

Bowling Elliot Humphries 3/32 from 7 Ben Gresson 1/6 from 2 Arthur Pickthorn 1/21 from 6 Richard Calver 1/11 from 4 Gavin Poole 0/45 from 15

Batting Scott Hillman 11 from 33 Ben Gresson 27 from 89 Matthew Vercoe-Curtis 73* from 179 Josh Milne 23* from 106

ECB won first innings, PCC battled out a draw.

Skipper Chak reports: We played Eden Roskill at Keith Hay Park on Saturday. Eden Roskill won the toss and elected to bat. Our bowlers were on target right from the start and wickets were falling at regular intervals. They were all out for 95 with Sowndar taking 5 wickets. ( 4 of which were bowled). In reply we chased down the target with 26 overs to spare. Eden Roskill 95 allout 25.1 overs( Sowndar 5-16 Aaron 2-17) Parnell Kings 96-4 24.3 overs ( Abrar 37 Chak 19)

12 March PARNELL vs. ELLERSLIE Thos. Bloodworth Park 2A PARNELL 218/7 (35) ELLERSLIE 219/7 (32.4) RESULT: PARNELL LOST BY 3 WICKETS

The Pressies, absorbed in preparations for their campaign against the Hong Kong CC, have lost their ability to report. Hence no batting or bowling details given to your Editor, or posted on Results Vault. However, Craig Speakman has supplied the following photos which prove that some Parnell players actually took the field last Saturday:

Demon Greg hurles one down Simo’s plea is answered! First wicket of the season? If so, Simo now has 838 all time wickets for Parnell & is in hot pursuit of Ross Morgan (902). Only 65 more to overtake him, Simo! Roger Harvey has, after many, many years of trying, has finally conceded defeat & hung up his boots before taking his 800th. And Gormo, on 461, is giving chase but still a season or two (or three or …..) away.

GRADE 3. – FIELD DAY SUNDAY, 12 MARCH PARNELL RED & GOLD vs. UNIVERSITY CC,

GRADE 3. PARNELL RED vs. AUCC – Jeremy Boucher reports

Martin Crowe – a minute silence: Parnell Red and AUCC teams

No question which team won!

Exceptional game last Sunday with Parnell Red winning 151 to 56.

The general standard moved another notch higher, very proud of all you boys. Again we had only 3 dismissals and no run outs, excellent communication team red. The partnerships were 31, 26, 31, 28 and 37. Great team work. Varnan was nominated man of the match with 22 with the bat and conceding 0 runs off his two overs, Well done Varnan.

Game summary (batting score - runs conceded) as follows : Varnan 22(22-0), Charlie 13(8-(-5)), Tom 11(17-6), Oliver 10(11-1), Harry 10(13-3), Sam J 8( 14-6), Guy 7(10-3), Sam B -1(14-15), Oscar -4(4-8), Ishan -12(1-13).

Special mention to ; Charlie who took 4 wickets and one awesome run out - 2 overs 2 maidens 4 wickets for -5 runs, Varnan in his last over bowled (.W W . W W), a -8 over and a great C&B - figures of 2 overs 1 maiden for 0 runs, Harry 2 overs 1 maiden 3 wickets for 3 runs. Oliver 2 overs 1 maiden 1 wicket for 1 run and Guy 2 overs 1 maiden 1 wicket for 3 runs and 1 catch. Sam J pretty special run out @ the bowlers and Tom a great return catch.

A Great team effort as we can see all of you guys played really well [Type here]

GRADE 3. PARNELL GOLD vs. AUCC REP. B. - Tony Burt reports:

Captains of the Parnell Gold and Red teams, Jacob Burt and Sam J receive the Cup from the AUCC captains

The Parnell Grade 3. Red and Gold teams

Gritty win by the Grade 3 Gold team last Sunday.

PCC Grade 3 Gold 96 –vs. AUCC Grade 3 Rep B – 81 after 20 overs.

Before the game both teams met in the middle, facing each other for 1 mins silence in remembrance for .

After losing the toss and been put into bat openers Nick Harrison and William Harris got us off to a great start with with a partnership of 33 runs in the first 4 overs. Some clever late shots of their legs being particularly effective and rewarding.

At the change of innings we were on a healthy 65.

Our bowling was both accurate and relentless, with not much been given away. Special mentions for Jacob Burt (Wickets/Runs (2 overs) 1/1), Nick Harrison (2/5), Rafi Neuland (3/12) & Jordan Gibson (4/8) who shone with their medium pace bowling. Man of the Match Jordon Gibson mauled them with figures of 4/8 of his 2 overs . Fielding was a definite step up from previous matches and boundaries soon dried up and runs outs became more frequent, with AUCC only managing 29 runs after their first 12 overs.

The second innings saw the arrival of William Barclay (16 runs) and Jacob Burt (21 runs) who set about putting huge pressure on the fielding side with lightning fast running between the wickets as panic set in for AUCC. They finished with a partnership of 37 (made up of mainly 1’s and 2’s being pushed into gaps) that really tipped the balance of the game. Parnell ending with 96 after their 20 overs.

With 8 overs left to contain 67 runs, Parnell started of well, but soon the batting calibre increased down the order and their were signs of pressure being applied, in particular when one over cost us 12 runs. [Type here]

The boys kept their composure though, working as a team to run everything down and to ensure no easy runs were given. And we ended with a comfortable 15 runs winning margin.

A great result for the boys that finishes an out beaten season.

Team sheet: 1. Milan Karel 2. Rafi Neuland 3. William Barclay 4. Max Gilbert 5. Jordan Gibson 6. Nick Harrison 7. Williams Harris 8. Jacob Burt 9. Luca Souloglou 10. George Lindsay-Smail

VSL - Over 60s, UK Tour & News

Per Dianne McDermott As you know, the Over 60’s Cricket week has been a biannual event for the last eight years – it’s been a great time! This year however sees the last Over 60’s week we will be doing here in Auckland. We have four teams travelling from Australia to play (Gippsland Goannas, Mid North Coast, UNEX and VOSCA), and to ensure these teams have a great time and to celebrate this last week – we are able to do individual days of play and also individual ticket sales for functions.

Even if you are unable to play – come along and share the great comraderie and atmosphere of this week at a fantastic venue.

Please let me know if you are able to play as we definitely need more New Zealand players for all days – and of course, the more the merrier at the functions.

This is the last Over 60’s we are doing and I really want to make it worth it for the 86 Australians we have travelling over.

These are the days that I need players for:- All games will be played at the North Shore Cricket Club Tuesday 29th March Wednesday 30th March Friday 1st April Saturday 2nd April

There is also an opening bbq at the end of play on the 29th March at the NSCC and a finale dinner at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday evening at the Maritime Room at the Viaduct Basin.

Costs are:- $35.00 per player per day (including lunch – cash bar available for drinks); $25.00 per person for the opening bbq (cash bar available for drinks); $110.00 per person for the finale dinner (drinks included). Partners and supporters are encouraged to purchase tickets for the two functions.

Even if players can only come for the opening bbq or finale dinner that would be fantastic – it is a great chance to celebrate the Over 60’s held at the North Shore Cricket Club over the last 8 years and it will be fantastic to have a great Kiwi welcome and hospitality for our visitors.

With kindest regards,

Dianne. [Type here]
