    Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No.186: 2019/20 – Club of the Year! The 2019/20 Season may have ended a fraction prematurely but, for Parnell, it was a resounding success. Over it’s long history, 163 years, the Club has won many championships and produced some of New Zealand’s finest cricketers but few seasons have produced the results and accolades gained in 2019/20. COVID 19 has meant the postponement of the Annual Awards Dinner but Auckland Cricket has just announced the trophy winners and a superb collection of silverware comes to Parnell and our Players: “Club of the Year” – the Simmonds & Osborne Trophy awarded to Parnell Cricket Club Parnell last won this Award 27 years ago. The Trophy dates from 1905/06 when it was awarded jointly to City, Grafton, North Shore and Parnell Cricket Clubs. Parnell was the sole awardee in 1909/10 and North Shore won in 1910/11 but, then, till 1926/27 there were No Awards made. Reinstated the next season, From then it was awarded each year to WW 2 with Parnell winning in 1933/34. No awards during the War but from 1946/47 it has been presented annually again and Parnell won it the next season,1947/48. Next, and represented by Eastern Districts (Parnell, Orakei, Ellerslie and Panmure CCs), we won in 1959/60. The District Scheme ended in 1966 but Parnell did not win the Trophy again until 1992/93. That season Mike Simpson, our present Patron, was both President and Chairman. It has taken another 27 years to win again.

    Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 ANNUAL REPORT, ACCOUNTS and BALANCE SHEET Lockie Ferguson Catching Eoin Morgan – Final, New Zealand vs England, ICC CWC, Lord’s, 14 July 2019 21 wickets in the ICC CWC19 Tournament and selected for the CWC World XI Photo - Associated Press 2018 – 2019 : 161st Season 1. NEW ZEALAND – BLACK CAPS – 2018/19 & ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP 2019 The Club was honoured to have two members selected to represent New Zealand in the past 12 months. WER (WILL) SOMERVILLE and LH (LOCKIE) FERGUSON Will and Lockie – both bowling for Parnell Will, a dream Test debut 7/127 (4/75 & 3/52) and Test won Lockie, 21 wickets at 19.47 in the ICC CWC And Lockie selected for the WORLD XI, ICC CWC 2019 WILL SOMERVILLE Born in 1984, Will, an off spinner, made his 1st Class debut for Otago in 2004/05 for whom he represented till 2007/08. Then, whilst in Sydney, for NSW from 2014 to 2018. Will returned to NZ later last year, accepted a contract with ACA and joined Parnell. Selected for the Black Caps’ series vs Pakistan in the UAE in December, he took, in the 3rd Test on debut, 7/127 (4/75 and 3/52). This enabled NZ to win the Test by 123 runs and so take out the series. Will’s apparences for Parnell were limited but he did well for Auckland and was awarded Cricketer of the Year – the John Bentham Morris Memorial Trophy, the first Parnell player to be so honoured since Ross Morgan in 1978/79.

    Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No.112 : 26 Nov. Winning Cricket & Sun! Heroes of the Weekend: Callum Douglas – 118* Lalit Bose – 219 off 113 balls Karun Phorgat – 6 for 43 1 & 2: Callum Douglas and Lalit Bose – for our Thirds vs. Grafton United, Callum scored 118* on his Parnell Senior debut and Lalit hit a colossal 219 off only 113 balls.Their 2nd wicket partnership of 292 falls just short of the Parnell Lower Grade Record for that wicket – 297 set by R Bracefield and J Wallace in 2013/14. Callum comes to us from the King’s College 1st XI, for whom he scored a ton last month, and he has previously represented Parnell in EDCA Age Group teams and Auckland Under 17s. Lalit arrived a fortnight ago from UK having recently graduated from Durham University. He represented the University in a 1st Class match, vs. Warwickshire, in 2015 but his real claim to fame is that in 2012 he hit a century for his school, Harrow, at Lord’s vs. Eton. 2: Karun Phorgat – the smile says it all, a 6 for for the Reserves. Karun, “Special K” to the Reserves for whom he is the spearhead, is originally from India but has played Premier Grade cricket in Melbourne. This is his first season with Parnell and is making his mark with his enthusiasm and, particularly, his quick bowling. He is the Reserves leading wicket taker with figures of 4/37, 4/50, 4/31 and 1/58 before getting this first 5 for! Men’s Premier Grade: Hedley Howarth Trophy – Major 2 Day Championship Round 4.

    Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No. 211 – Auckland Cricket’s “Club of the Year” Again Auckland Cricket’s Club of the Year Award – The Simmonds and Osborne Trophy At our Awards Dinner – Nick Albrect, Chairman of Auckland Cricket Association congratulating Parnell and presenting the Simmonds and Osborne Trophy to Craig Presland, our Chairman Parnell CC has been awarded “Club of the Year” for just the 8th time since its inauguration in 1905 and, for the very the first time, the Club has received the Trophy in consecutive seasons, 2019/20 and 2020/2 The Awards Dinner There has been much to celebrate this season just ended and the Club has held several Prizegivings – 3 sessions of Juniors, 1 of Seniors. Then, a marvellous finale, the Awards Dinner held in the Terry Jarvis Centre on 9 April. Some photos follow but fuller details of actual prizewinners will be included in the Annual Report. Excellent food and Trophies for presentation to those who excelled The Shelby Bros from Peaky Blinders - did a great job as MCs for the night Junior Chairman Jeremy Boucher presented caps and trophies to Juniors, And Women’s Chairman Gemma Lord and Coach Henry Cameron did likewise to the Women Nathan Robinson receiving the TG McIntosh Cup from Chairman Craig for the Most Outstanding School Cricketer (as one can see, Nathan has now left King’s College and is now attending Victoria University) And, right, The WJ Dinnison Cup is being presented by Phil Horne to Renee Macmillan, The Player Under 21 showing Most Prowess, Sportsmanship and Club Spirit.

    The Hedley Howarth Trophy Is Ours at Last!

    Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 The Hedley Howarth Trophy is Ours at Last! Our victorious Premier Team at Orakei Domain last Saturday Auckland University CC defeated by an innings and 168 runs and over 21 points clear of 2nd placed Takapuna CC, Parnell, as part of Eastern Districts CC, last won the 2 Day Championship in 1965/66 and, in Parnell’s own name, way back in 1948/49. The ‘48/49 Team was exceptionally strong as it contained Merv Wallace, Bert Sutcliffe and Johnny Hayes. These three were selected, that season for NZ’s 1949 tour of England. Wallace started the tour in exceptional form and almost scored 1000 in May. Sutcliffe then scored over 2600 runs for the season, a total only exceeded by Don Bradman as an overseas tourist. Hayes, the fastest bowler in the side, was injured early on the tour and it wasn’t till some years later that he fulfilled his great promise. The 1965/66 Team, captained by Ross Morgan, contained Geoff Rabone, Terry Jarvis, and Bob Sutton. The first three all played for NZ and Sutton, a fast left armer was exceedingly unlucky not to have made the Test side. 1965/66 - Eastern Districts, 2 Day Champions 1. 2.
