2015 VANCOUVER September 11-15th, 2015 7 ABOUT WAIS

THE MISSION The Western Angiographic & Interventional Society is incorporated to maintain the highest standard of patient care, providing quality, timely continuing education programs for member physicians and other health care professionals.

In 1970, a few West Coast Interventional Radiologists held the first annual Western Angio Club; establishing a forum for collaborative discussion about new procedures for image guided therapies. Their goal was simple and pure; to learn from each other’s successes, failures and innovative techniques. Many of those first pioneers made valuable contributions towards improving patient care through the development of new techniques and standards of practice. Others published research findings and worked with engineers to design new catheters and implantable devices, ultimately creating a new industry where minimally invasive procedures provided alternative treatments for cancer, peripheral vascular disease, stroke, aneurysms, and many other vascular and non-vascular diseases.

Today, the Western Angiographic & Interventional Society is proud to continue the legacy of our founders through an annual forum for advancements in image-guided therapy. Attendees will benefit from interactive discussion in our M&M and Self Assessment Module (SA-CME) Session as well as a broad spectrum of topics from today’s thought leaders.

THE DOCUMENTARY

In the fall of 2014, WAIS became a primary sponsor of the documentary, Without a Scalpel: the secret world of interventional radiology. The documentary features the role of minimally invasive, image-guided procedures in the treatment of disease by introducing the public to four patients and the IRs who treat them. We follow the journey of these patients and learn how MIIP has had an impact on their lives and those of their families. The first ever viewing of this documentary will be at the special RED CARPET PREMIERE at the annual WAIS Conference. This film is heartfelt, informative, and captivating and the patient stories will surprise you - don’t miss it!

For more information on the documentary, contact the Executive Producers: Susan Jackson ([email protected]) or Dr. Isabel Newton ([email protected])
