Aber bei Beam und seiner Band Iron & Wine ist zum Glück lyrisch mehr zu holen: Er nutzt seine Samtstimme, um feinstes Folk-Storytelling zu vertonen. So ist es auch wieder auf seinem aktuellen Album „Beast Epic“, das einem mit Songs wie „The Truest Star We Know“ und „About A Bruise“ bisweilen das Herz bricht. Die Arrangements sind dabei ein wenig zurückgenommener als es noch bei den Alben „Kiss Each Other Clean“ und „Ghost On Ghost“ der Fall war - was seinem fein gesponnenen Songwriting fast ein wenig besser steht.
