The Gospel Reading for the Third Sunday of Advent (Matthew 11:211) tells us John the Baptist (who, according to Luke 1:15, was “filled with the Holy Spirt” even before he was born) wondered if Jesus was actually the Messiah (e.g., the Christ). Now, JB (John the Baptist) was in prison. Wait! Is prison what you get for doing the will of God? Well, as it turns out, many spiritual giants have indeed received jail time. The good thing JB did was seek an answer to his question. That’s the key: pursue answers to your questions or doubts. Let’s not forget Thomas, who in spite of his doubts about Jesus’ resurrection, didn’t give up meeting with the other disciples, and was rewarded with an explicit physical answer.
