Language Abilities/Skills: Arabic: Mother Language English : Reading, writing & speaking vi ABSTRACT The last decade witnessed launching tens of Islamic preaching satellite channels that can be received free of charge in the Middle East. And as Muslims are divided into two main branches (Sunni and Shiite), and each of them has different schools that compete with each other, preaching channels broadcast is representing this diversity. Political and religious groups and parties fund some of these channels while others try to commercialize the preaching message in order to survive. Commercialization works mainly through discursive techniques that lead to religion commodification, consequently, products and services get an Islamic brand by advertising through preaching channels. In addition to commodification, Islamization is another main technique to achieve popularity. Preaching channels and mainly Salafi ones, frame the political situation- such as the Syrian revolution- in an Islamic perspective. Binaries such as good and evil, right and wrong belief and disbelief are a main discursive technique for categorizing actions. This study is specialized in the power elements of Salafi discourse via satellite channels in Middle East. Keywords: preaching channels, commodification, Islamization, Sunni, Shiite and Salafi. vii ABSTRAKT Im letzten Jahrzehnt wurden Duzende „islamisch predigende Sender (Kanäle) eingeführt (installiert), die gebührenfrei im Mittleren Osten empfangen werden können. So wie die Moslems in zwei Hauptgruppen gespalten sind (Sunniten und Schiiten) und jede von ihnen unterschiedliche Schulen hat, die miteinander konkurrieren, repräsentieren die Sendungen der „Predigt-Kanäle“ diese Verschiedenheit (Ungleichheit, Vielfalt).     Siapa yang tak kenal dengan Imam Al-Ghazali. Ia dikenal sebagai ulama tasawuf dan paham filsafat. Sosok yang besar sumbangannya terhadap khazanah intelektual Islam ini, memiliki nama lengkap Abu Hamid Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Ta’us Ahmad al-Tusi al-Shafi’i. Ia lahir pada 450 H/1058 M di Tabaran, Khurasan. Sejak kecil kecintaannya terhadap ilmu pengetahuan terlihat dari kesenangannya dalam menggembara dan merantau dari satu tempat ke tempat yang lain untuk berguru ke ulama-ulama. Ketika berada di Baghdad, Al-Ghazali dilantik sebagai Mahaguru Universiti Baghdad, Irak. Selain belajar dan mengkaji ilmu, Al-Ghazali juga banyak menulis. Karyanya mencapai 300 buah buku seperti ilmu mantik, akhlak, tafsir, ulumul Quran, falsafah, dan sebagainya. Namun, sebagian karyanya itu telah hangus dibakar tentera Moghul ketika menyerang kota Baghdad. Kitab yang musnah tersebut, yaitu 40 Jilid Tafsir, Sirrul Alamain, al-Madhnuuna bihi ala Qhairiha, dan lainnya. Yang terselamatkan hanya 84 buku seperti Al-Munqiz Mm al-Dhalal, Tahafut al-Falasifah, Mizanul Amal, Ihya Ulumuddin, Mahkun Nazar, Miyarul Ilmu, Maqsadil Falasifah, dan lainnya. Meskipun Al-Ghazali banyak menulis mengenai filsafat, tapi ia tak dianggap filsuf. Kebanyakan peneliti menggolongkannya sebagai orang yang mengkritisi filsafat yang berkembang di zamannya. Hal ini terlihat dalam buku Tahafut Falsafah yang mengkritik filsafat karena dianggap menggoyahkan sendi-sendi keimanan. Meskipun Al-Ghazali kurang senang dengan pemikiran filsafat dan para filsuf, tapi dalam buku Maqasid al Falasifah, ia mengemukakan kaidah filsafat untuk menguraikan persoalan yang berkaitan dengan logika, teologi, dan metafisika. Setidaknya, ada tiga pemikiran filsafat metafisika yang menurut Al-Ghazali bertentangan, yaitu qadimnya alam ini, Tuhan tak mengetahui terhadap perkara dan peristiwa yang kecil, dan pengingkaran terhadap kebangkitan jasad.

Hassan Doi:10.5901/mjss.2017.v8n1p388 Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine how philosophical terms are translated into Arabic. It aims at discussing the problems arising from the epistemological difference between Western philosophical terms and their counterparts in Arabic in the degree of reliance on cognitive frames. It focuses on the structure of terminological knowledge bases, which have a hidden network of semantic relations. Examples of the study are taken from the specialized encyclopedia of Abdel Rahman Badawi (1996). The study utilizes Frame-Based Terminology Theory to analyze the translation of the philosophical terms in the encyclopedia. The study argues that difficulties in translating philosophical terms represent epistemological barriers. Keywords: Terminology, Translation, Arabic, Frame Semantics 1. Introduction The question of untranslatability of philosophical terms is reflected by Willard Van Quine, the American philosopher, who asserts that "we cannot, in principle, provide translation rigorous enough to assess such grand philosophical theses" (Roger Hart, in press: 5). The translation of philosophical terms may be quite different from technical texts. Philosophers frequently invent their own terms. Parks (2004: 3) gives the example of Aristotle's works which seem untranslatable without paraphrase or without giving his terms additional meaning, to bring it closer to the original meaning of Aristotle's expressions. He gives the example of word 'eudaimonia' which is translated as 'happiness'. He states that "the alternative is to use the Greek term in English, requiring the reader to learn a new, foreign word to correspond to a foreign concept." This study will not be confined to the domain of academic philosophy or to those who are professionals in the field of philosophy. Design/methodology/approach – The paper adopted the critical rational approach in dealing with contemporary Islamic philosophy in the Arab world. The scope will include scholars from different fields of epistemology who tried to present a “vision” of the attitude that should be adopted in facing the challenges of the age and the problems of the nation on the epistemological level or the political, economic and social levels. Early Life Muhammad (PBUH), in full Abu al-Qasim Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al- Muttalib ibn Hashim, was born 570 in Mecca, Arabia [now in Saudi Arabia]. His father, ‘Abd Allah, and his mother, Aminah, belonged to the family of the Banu Hashim, a branch of the powerful Quraysh, the ruling tribe of Mecca, that also guarded its most sacred shrine, the Ka’bah. ‘Abd Allah died before Muhammad’s birth; without a father, Muhammad experienced many hardships, even though his grandfather ‘Abd al- Muttalib was a leader in the Meccan community. In order for Muhammad to master Arabic in its pure form and become well acquainted with Arab traditions, Aminah sent him as a baby into the desert, as was the custom of all great Arab families at that time.
