Also, the paper provides information about the hayfields floral richness, a great scientific value for Romania and Europe. The study of the flora was carried out in several stages: 2005-2008, 2013, 2017-2018. In the studied area, 397 taxa were identified, distributed in 82 families with therapeutic potential, represented by 164 medical taxa, 37 of them being in the European Pharmacopoeia 8.5. The study reveals that most plants contain: volatile oils (13.41%), tannins (12.19%), flavonoids (9.75%), mucilages (8.53%) etc. This plants can be used in the treatment of various human disorders: disorders of the digestive system, respiratory system, skin disorders, muscular and skeletal systems, genitourinary system, in gynaecological disorders, cardiovascular, and central nervous sistem disorders. In the study plants protected by law at European and national level were identified: Echium maculatum, Cephalaria radiata, Crambe tataria, Narcissus poeticus ssp. radiiflorus, Salvia nutans, Iris aphylla, Orchis morio, Orchis tridentata, Adonis vernalis, Dictamnus albus, Hammarbya paludosa etc. Keywords: Fărăgău, medicinal plants, human disease, Mureş County 1. -

Program www.mass.gov/nhesp State Status: Endangered Federal Status: None Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife DESCRIPTION: Papillose Nut-sedge is a slender, perennial species in the Sedge family (Cyperaceae). Stems arise from short, branched, knotty rhizomes with fibrous roots. Plants are 10 to 50 cm tall, forming small clumps with numerous bluish-green leaves (1–2.5 mm wide) and 3 to 10 flowering culms. A larger number of flowering culms may develop after fire. Flowering culms often have a solitary terminal inflorescence that is sessile and subtended by a leafy bract, and a second short- Papillose Nut-sedge fruiting culm, with white achene covered with stalked inflorescence lower on the stem. Abstract Pollen morphology of 5 species of the family Violaceae from Pakistan has been examined by light and scanning electron microscope. Pollen grains are usually radially symmetrical, isopolar, colporate, sub-prolate to prolate-spheroidal. Sexine slightly thicker or thinner than nexine. Tectum mostly densely punctate rarely psilate. On the basis of exine pattern two distinct pollen types viz., Viola pilosa–type and Viola stocksii-type are recognized. Introduction Violaceae is a family with 20 genera and about 800 species (Mabberley, 1987). In Pakistan it is represented by one genus and 17 species (Qaiser & Omer, 1985). Plant perennial herbs, or shrubs leaves simple, alternate rarely opposite, flowers bisexual, zygomorphic or actinomorphic, calyx 5, corolla of 5 petals, anterior petal large and spurred. Androecium of 5 stamens. Gynoecium a compound pistil of 3 united carpels, ovules superior, fruit capsule. The family is of little economic importance except for the garden favorite, Violets, Violas and Pansies. Pollen morphology of the family has been examined by Erdtman (1952), Lobreau- Callen (1977), Moore & Webb (1978) and Dojas et al., (1993). Moore et al., (1991) examined pollen morphology of the genus Viola. Kubitzki (2004) examined the pollen morphology of the family Violaceae. There are no reports on pollen morphology of the family Violaceae from Pakistan. Present investigations are based on the pollen morphology of 5 species representing a single genus of the family Violaceae by light and scanning electron microscope. -

It has slender, threadlike stems, 10-40 cm (4-16 inches) tall. The leaves are linear. Flowers bloom from May to July. They are borne in congested clusters. Pedicels are 1 to 8 mm (0.04 to 3.2 inches) long . Sepals are hairy and the five petals are rose to whitish. Anthers are deep pink to purple. This helps distinguish Marin dwarf-flax from California dwarf-flax ( H. californicum ), found in the same geographic area, which has white to rose anthers, as well as hairless sepals. List of Extirpated, Endangered, Threatened and Rare Vascular Plants in Indiana: An Update James R. Aldrich, John A. Bacone and Michael A. Homoya Indiana Department of Natural Resources Indianapolis, Indiana 46204 Introduction The status of Indiana's rarest vascular plants was last revised in 1981 by Bacone et al. (3). Since that publication much additional field work has been undertaken and accordingly, our knowledge of Indiana's rarest plant species has greatly increased. The results of some of this extensive field work have been discussed by Homoya (9) and Homoya and Abrell (10) for southern Indiana and by Aldrich et al. (1) for northern Indiana. Wilhelm's (17) discussion on the special vegetation of the Indiana Dunes Na- tional Lakeshore has also provided us with a much clearer understanding of the status of rare, threatened and endangered plants in northwest Indiana. Unfortunately, the number of species thought to be extinct in Indiana has more than tripled. Previous reports (2, 3) indicated that 26 species were extirpated in In- diana. The work that has been conducted to date leads us to believe that as many as 90 species may be extirpated. Without a doubt, the single factor most responsible for this extirpation has been and continues to be, the destruction of natural habitat. Compilation and Selection Criteria Lists of Bacone and Hedge (2), Bacone et al. (3), Barnes (4), Crankshaw (5) and Crovello (6) were consulted and provide the foundation for this report. New additions to this list include state records discovered since Deam (7) and a number of recommen- dations from field botanists. -

Sandplain Flax Linum intercursum Bickn. Last updated 10/02 State Status: None Federal Status: None Description: Sandplain Flax is a slender perennial herb, 10-20” (25-51 cm) tall. The stem is stiff and usually unbranched below the inflorescence. Its leaves are narrowly elliptic, less than one inch (12- 20 mm) long and less than ¼” (2-4 mm) are borne on slender, stiff, ascending branches. Flowering occurs from July to August. The seed capsules are round with a short but distinct conical cap. Similar Species in Massachusetts: Two species of flax resemble Sandplain Flax in Massachusetts. Wild Flax (Linum virginianum) has branches which are more widely spread than those of L. intercursum and a similar seed capsule but without the pointed cap. Small Stiff Yellow Flax (L. medium) has narrower leaves and a similar seed capsule, but also without the pointed cap. Holmgren, Noel H. 1998. Range: Sandplain Flax ranges from southeastern Massachusetts along the coastal plain to North Carolina, then inland to northern Georgia, northern Alabama, and eastern Tennessee. It also occurs in northwestern Indiana. Habitat in Massachusetts: Sandplain Flax inhabits dry, open, sandplain grasslands or moors, sand barrens, swaths under powerlines and mown fields, usually in small colonies. Co-occurring species include Andropogon scoparius (Little Bluestem), Agrostis spp. (ticklegrasses), Lechea spp. (pinweeds), Gaylussacia baccata (Black Huckleberry), and Helianthemum spp. (rockroses). Population Status: Currently (1984 to present), 55 occurrences have been reported; historically, 15 other occurrences have been recorded. Reasons for its rarity include its location in Massachusetts at the northern edge of its range and the succession of many open habitats to woody vegetation.
