Cette journée s’est inscrite dans le projet « Wende & Wandel : dire et penser le changement dans le monde germanique » du groupe interdisciplinaire de travail Germanosphères, projet soutenu par la MSH de Clermont-Ferrand (2015-2016). The thesis at hand asks why, and how it may be dealt with. More precisely, it questions which subterranean impulses, fixations and fantasies characterise fascism as a human phenomenon, to answer the pressing question of why some people become fascists. Starting from what might be called the mainstream academic consensus on the matter, it goes on to engage with recent historical and philosophical work to examine not simply fascism as a historical event, but the “fascism in our hearts”. Providing insight into contemporary fascist movements and their rhetorical strategies, it also displays the link between certain rhetorical messages and underlying reactionary impulses. It finds that fascism is characterised by certain themes of fantasy, which all lead to a position of misogynist masculinity. Fascism is also characterised by a struggle for control and is driven by a irreducible desire to dominate which is renewed by the material and psychological struggles of life in hierarchical societies. This results in a fixation on a phantasm of ascension from the chaotic, murky and frightening abyss, up to the safety of the clean, orderly and illuminated plateau – a fixation which fuels the daily engagement and activism of the fascist individual. With Klaus Theweleit’s Male Fantasies as main inspiration, chapter one begins with selected contemporary mainstream approaches before going into some depth on the philosophical framework used by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari to explain fascism.

Februar 2020 in Hanau das dritte innerhalb eines Jahres begangene rechtsterroristische Attentat die Bundesrepublik. Dies stellt die Sicher- heitsbehörden vor die Herausforderung, realweltliche, aber auch virtuelle Radikalisie- rungsprozesse zu antizipieren und weitere Anschläge zu verhindern. Aber auch darüber hinaus stehen die Sicherheitsbehörden vor schwierigen Heraus- forderungen: Die Corona-Pandemie belastet seit dem vergangenen Jahr die Gesell- schaft und erfordert zahlreiche Einschränkungen der persönlichen Freiheit. Die Krise beeinflusste nicht nur tiefgreifend das gesellschaftliche Leben in Deutschland, sie hat auch Gefahren für die Innere Sicherheit, ja für die Demokratie in unserem Land hervorgerufen. Bürgerinnen und Bürger haben von ihren Grundrechten Gebrauch gemacht und gegen die Maßnahmen zur Eindämmung der Pandemie protestiert. Das ist legi- tim und wichtig für eine lebendige Demokratie. Mit Besorgnis ist allerdings zur Kenntnis zu nehmen, dass sich im Windschatten der Demonstrationen eine dif- fuse Protestszene aus notorischen Corona-Leugnern und Verschwörungstheo- retikern bis hin zu Demokratiegegnern gebildet hat, die keine Berührungsängste zu Rechtsextremisten und „Reichsbürgern“ hat. Extremisten „spielt dies in die Karten“. Sie konnten sich, auch ohne das Protestgeschehen selbst zu vereinnah- men oder zu steuern, wirksam in Szene setzen und ihrem Hass auf den demokra- tischen Verfassungsstaat und seine Regeln freien Lauf lassen. Nicht nur von Extremisten gingen während der Corona-Krise Gefahren für die Innere Sicherheit aus. Fremde Nachrichtendienste haben sich die angespannte Situation zu Nutze gemacht und verstärkt versucht, die Gesellschaft durch Des- information und gezielte Verbreitung von „Fake News“ zu destabilisieren.
