DEADLINES: Application deadline for the First Term 2013/2014: May 15th, 2013 Application deadline for the Second Term 2013/2014: November 1st, 2013

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: We need the nominations of the Home University. Once we have been provided with the contact details of the nominated students we will contact them directly and provide them with all necessary forms and information about their applications.

Students will have to print the forms, complete them, get them duly signed and stamped by the authorized people, and send them by ordinary post to:

For an Application we need: o Application Form completed in full, including a colour passport photo. o Learning Agreement. o Copy of the Student’s: 1. Transcript of Records. 2. Curriculum Vitae. 3. National Identity Card (for EU citizens) or Passport (for non-EU citizens or when ID card is not compulsory in an EU country). 4. Health Insurance cover, either private or the European Health Insurance Card. 5. Spanish Language Certificate (at least LEVEL A2 DELE or equivalent certificate). Erasmus Coordinators at Home Universities may authenticate the student’s ability in Spanish Language. 6. Bachelor’s degree Diploma and/or certification of present registration in Master’s course (only applicable to Master’s level students).

Once we have received all necessary documents, duly authorized by the respective Erasmus coordinators of each Faculty and by the Institutional Coordinator, we will send the authorized Learning Agreement back to the International/Erasmus Office of the respective Home University to be collected by the student, together with the Letter of Acceptance.

For matriculation, these authorized Learning Agreements must be presented back to the Central Administration Office (CEGECA) when they arrive on campus.

Important! Non-EU citizens must get their visa or residence permit in their country of residence or home countries before their departure for Spain. Students must be sure about expiring dates, application for extension deadlines or other relevant dates with the Spanish embassy or consulate Any necessary extension of their visa or residence permit must be applied for within 30 days of their arrival in the European Union. In that case students must be sure about this procedure before their departure for Spain.

APPLICATION FORMS: All necessary documents for the Erasmus application and up-to-date information for students can be found on our website.

WHAT TO DO ON ARRIVAL AT UMH: On arrival at their respective campus students should go to the Central Administration Office (CEGECA) in order to matriculate and to complete the Certificate of Arrival, provided by the home university.

Students will have to show a copy of the authorized Learning Agreement (duly signed by both parts) and their National Identity Card (EU members) or Passport (Non-EU members or when ID card is not compulsory in an EU country) in order to be identified.

If students need help in their early days at the UMH the Student Delegation of each Faculty will provide them with the necessary support, and also the local volunteer students participating in the Buddy Programme.

ACCOMMODATION: The Student Delegation of each Faculty will help incoming Erasmus students find accommodation near to campus in private apartments, which are normally shared with other students, Erasmus or local. Students should contact the Student Delegation of their Faculty well before their arrival at UMH. Please note that the Student Delegation is closed during August.

Also, the volunteer students participating in the Buddy Programme will assist in finding accommodation.

Incoming students can also find accommodation by directly contacting owners from our database Programa Nido.

SPANISH LANGUAGE COURSES: We offer intensive Spanish Courses which start three weeks before each semester, and also offer non- intensive Spanish Courses during both semesters. HOW TO ARRIVE: Elche is in a truly privileged location 20 km from . It is in a strategic position forming, together with other nearby towns, the southern axis of the Mediterranean Arc, a district that boasts great dynamism in both demographic and economic terms.

Elche is in an area with good land, sea and air communications. El Altet International Airport is located within its boundaries and it is also close to the provincial capital’s Seaport. Road communications are also good, linking it to the Mediterranean toll motorways and the motorway to Madrid, while the rail links will soon include a station for the AVE high speed train.

Sant Joan d’Alacant is located 10 km north of Alicante. Bus route from / to Alicante-Sant Joan (Line 23).

Orihuela is located at 30km south of Elche. There are regular buses or trains from Elche and Alicante.

Altea is located at 53 km north of Alicante. Arrive at by taking a bus from the Airport or from Alicante or by using the from Alicante.

To get from the airport to your campus the following options are available:

By taxi: There are several taxi companies operating in El Altet International Airport.

WELCOMING DAYS: Miguel Hernández University organizes a ‘Welcome Day’ in October for the winter semester and another in March for the summer semester so that Erasmus and local students can meet.

MEDICAL CARE: Students coming from within the European Union with access to the public health system in their home countries will be able to use their European Health Insurance Card. This card entitles students to any

necessary healthcare during a temporary stay in any of the EU member states or in countries of the European Economic Area, at any of the outpatient or health centres nearest to where they live.

Students coming from a non-EU country must bring their own international medical insurance policy to cover their healthcare needs in Spain. Students should also bring an insurance company document detailing the extent of such cover.

Students coming from countries that have signed bilateral healthcare agreements with Spain should bring their corresponding documentation with them from their home country and apply to be assigned a Family Doctor at the health centre nearest to where they live.
