ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS
We recommend that delegates choose to stay in Winchester, which is around 18 miles from the village of Chawton. Winchester is a city with excellent transport links – airports, Southampton, Oxford and London can be easily accessed by train and coach – and a wide variety of attractions, accommodation, and restaurants. The town of Alton is nearer to Chawton than Winchester, but it is much smaller, and not as well served by public transport (although there is a direct train to central London). Chawton House Library is a short taxi journey from Alton.
Please note that we will arrange coach transport from the University of Winchester to Chawton (picking up at the Burma Road accommodation, and subsequently at the statue of King Alfred in the centre of Winchester), and this will be included in your conference fee. We will, however, be unable to arrange transport from accommodation in and around Chawton and Alton. There is parking available at Chawton House Library for those who would like to bring their own cars.
WINCHESTER ACCOMMODATION
THE UNIVERSITY OF WINCHESTER
Bed and breakfast accommodation is available at Burma Road, University of Winchester, where we have reserved a number of rooms for conference delegates. All rooms are en-suite with shower, wash hand basin and toilet facility in each room. Towels and bed linen are provided and there is a kitchen area within each flat where delegates would find tea and coffee-making facilities.
Please note that this is student accommodation. It is therefore perhaps more basic than North American delegates in particular will be accustomed to at their own institutions. There may also be other conference delegates and language schools in residence.
The cost is £54 per night B&B for a single en-suite room. This accommodation has been reserved as a convenient option for delegates, who will need to book their own accommodation directly with the University of Winchester (see below).

Payment must be made at the time of booking by credit or debit card – there will be no refunds for cancellations unless the booking is cancelled at least a week in advance of arrival. Please mention that you are attending the conference at Chawton House Library when you book your accommodation at the University of Winchester.
