Located in the heart of Europe, its strategic geographical position has led to many conflicts throughout history. Many sites are still witnessing today a dense architectural past, sometimes typical, sometimes influenced. Indeed, in this region is observed more than elsewhere, the many architectural similities of the Renaissance Spanich, Belgian, German and Austrian through those of Switzerland through thses 230 km borders. This cultural heritage alongside an exceptional nature. This region is one of the greenest areas of France and has very diverse landscape: moutains, lakes, rivers, gorges and forests.

- 15% of the territory is composed of forests of beech, oak and fir trees, some of which can stand up to 50 meters. - Second most wooded region in France with more than 700 000 hectares of forests, it is the largest fir plantation of Europe. - 6650 km of canals and rivers. - 665 steeples, became emblematic of the region.

Part of the region produces wines that are renowed international popularity of this area, such as Chablis. These vines are an integral part of the landscape and contributes to the inking of its strong regional identity, very attached to the vine cultivation. Finally, this region of art and history has seen born artists who have managed to make history as the author Victor Hugo but also the Lumière brothers, inventors of cinema.

The colorful and drawn roofs present throughout the region belongs to the Flemish influence and bring us back to the time of the Dukes of Burgundy empire. Different bright colors of these tiles allow to obtain geometric patterns and differentiate villages from each other. Finally these tiles were affordable only for the upper social class and it had the purpose to show off their social rank.
