Use your metrics to inform your strategies.
Soft Landings Conference 2019 BSRIA © Setting the criteria
What do you measure? It’s all about knowledge.
Soft Landings Conference 2019 BSRIA © Setting the criteria
“Spending more time at the beginning does not need to make the project take longer overall – it may reduce the total time… .”
Ian Mehrtens, Royal Veterinary College (source: Client Conversations - Insights into successful project outcomes, RIBA, 2013)
Soft Landings Conference 2019 BSRIA © Setting the criteria
Briefing should be a continual process
Large or complex organisations may have several stakeholders who influence the brief.
Client should coordinate these stakeholders through a single representative (…really?)
Soft Landings Conference 2019 BSRIA © Setting the criteria
“Everyone has to buy into the overall vision, and the customer’s needs must be at the heart of that. Early engagement is so important ….working together to get it right the first time as the design evolves.
Julia Plaskett, Crest Nicholson (source: Client Conversations - Insights into successful project outcomes, RIBA, 2013)

Influence of Procurement on Outcomes
Better energy performance delivered by ‘traditional’ procurement

Influence of Procurement on Outcomes
Other findings from the study: ▪ Good team relationships and individual personalities have a strong influence on outcomes. ▪ Lack of team continuity can be detrimental to project outcomes. ▪ Complex buildings are more likely to go wrong ▪ Simpler buildings tend to perform better

They have other things to do.
It needs to be easy to understand.
