Con mucho gusto les damos la bienvenida a la 8ª edición de IFF Panamá, a la vez que nos embarcamos en una celebración de una semana de cine, cultura, arte y conversaciones reflexivas. Durante los últimos dos años, se han dado algunos cambios importantes en nuestro diálogo cultural y estamos entusiasmados de ser parte de esta conversación, a través de nuestras proyecciones, paneles e iniciativas educativas. En IFF Panamá continuamos con nuestro compromiso con las películas locales y regionales a través del eje de nuestra programación “Historias de Centro América y el Caribe” y estamos muy orgullosos de contar, por primera vez con nuestro primer jurado de FIPRESCI (Federación Internacional de la Prensa Cinematográfica). Estos tres especialistas en cine seleccionarán entre las películas de Centro América y el Caribe para otorgar este prestigioso premio. Además, gracias a nuestra asociación con el Festival de Cine de Locarno, seremos anfitriones del Locarno Industry Academy, también por primera vez, y ofreceremos a los futuros distribuidores, agentes de ventas y programadores de festivales, la oportunidad de aprender de algunos de los profesionales más experimentados e inteligentes de la industria. It’s with great pleasure that we welcome you to the 8th edition of IFF Panama as we embark on a weeklong celebration of film, culture, art and thoughtful conversations. There have been some important shifts in our cultural dialogue over the past couple of years and we are excited to be a part of this conversation, through our film screenings, panels and educational initiatives. At IFF Panama we continue our commitment to local and regional films through our centerpiece program “Stories of Central America and the Caribbean” and we are very proud to host our first FIPRESCI jury here in Panama (Federation of International Film Critics). These three film specialists will select one of the films to be the recipient of this prestigious award. As well, thanks to our partnership with the Locarno Film Festival, we’ll be host to the Locarno Industry Academy for the first time and give future distributors, sales agents and film programmers, the opportunity to learn from some of the most experienced and intelligent minds in the industry. The week will be filled with guests from the all over the world that will come to share and celebrate film, as well as its power, in our beautiful Panama. Thanks to our many local partners, we are able to bring the best of world cinema once again to Panama. Cada año nos complace presentar al público panameño las historias más relevantes y representativas del cine internacional y con especial énfasis en América Latina. El cine no es simplemente una ventana a nuevas realidades de otras latitudes. El cine es un reflejo de nuestras sociedades. Es por esto que nos enorgullece que nuestras historias de Centro América y el Caribe cada año se fortalezcan. Y nos emociona presentar una nueva sección de películas panameñas “Perspectiva Panameña”. No solo nos podemos identificar con las producciones de nuestra región en la pantalla grande, sino que nuestra audiencia e invitados internacionales gozan de conocer la más reciente cinematografía en el marco de IFF Panamá. Fundación IFF Panamá
La Fundación Festival Internacional de Cine de Panamá (Fundación IFF Panamá) es una organización sin fines de lucro que fue creada con el propósito de apoyar la realización del Festival Internacional de Cine de Panamá e impulsar las actividades educativas y formativas que son realizadas como parte integral de cada edición.
Los objetivos principales de la Fundación IFF Panamá son:
• Promover los beneficios directos de realizar un festival internacional de cine en Panamá, en los planos cultural, turístico, formativo, de apoyo a la industria cinematográfica y económico
• Promover las actividades profesionales relacionadas a la industria cinematográfica en Panamá y en la región de Centroamérica y El Caribe
• Estimular el crecimiento y fortalecimiento del cine nacional a través de la plataforma internacional que ofrece el Festival Internacional de Cine de Panamá
• Ayudar a crear un mercado de cine donde productores y distribuidores converjan en Panamá con el fin de adquirir producciones, promover el financiamiento de películas y conseguir su distribución en forma global, así como facilitar el espacio para el logro de acuerdos de co-producción
• Sensibilizar a la audiencia del Festival Internacional de Cine de Panamá en relación al fortalecimiento de la identidad nacional que acompaña el desarrollo de una cinematografía propia
• Atraer y ayudar a exhibir el cine latinoamericano e internacional

IFF Panama Foundation
The International Film Festival of Panama Foundation (IFF Panama Foundation) is a nonprofit organization created to support the International Film Festival of Panama while promoting the many educational initiatives that are organized during each festival edition.
IFF Panama Foundation’s primary objectives are:
• Promote and establish an international film festival in Panama that directly benefits cultural, tourism, economic, and film-related industries
• Promote film-related activities in Panama, Central America and the Caribbean
• Strengthen and stimulate growth for national cinema via an international platform
• Help develop a market for cinema wherein producers and distributors converge in Panama to procure production agreements, promote film financing, and secure global distribution partners
• Impact audiences’ understanding of the benefits of developing our own film industry and the strengthened national identity and culture that comes with it
• Attract and assist the exhibition of Latin American and international cinema
