The Tons kick off the 2021-22 challenge with a 1-0 win against ESL club challengers, Hoddesdon Town FC, in the Extra Preliminary Round. Today we play AFC Dunstable CO WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL CLAPTON FOOTBALL CLUB OFFICIAL HOME OF THE “TONS” Good afternoon and welcome to The Terence McMillan Stadium for our FA Cup Preliminary Qualifying Round match against AFC Dunstable. We extend a warm welcome to their players, officials and supporters and we hope you enjoy their time with us. AFC Dunstable plays in the Southern League Central Division, which is a step above us - so we need to be on our game today. I quickly realised that we were playing a bigger club when they contacted us and said they were bringing 10 committee members and will there be room to park their coach. That's the great thing about the FA Cup - smaller clubs getting home draws against bigger ones. I'm writing these notes after a late night in Harwich, where we beat Little Oakley 5-3, giving us 3 valuable league points, oh, what mood swings I'm having already this season! After our home defeat on Saturday against St Margaretsbury, we were all so low.

I must admit that game was not particularly entertaining, but it was certainly competitive and hard-fought and exactly as one has come to expect over the years between these two sides – and it is likely to be no different this evening I would suggest. I have previously commented that the draws in cup competitions have not been at all kind to us with away ties in all competitions other than the B & B Senior Cup and sure enough this has continued again in this competition with tonight’s victors having to travel to the winners of the Chalfont St. Peter v Kempston Rovers replay (also taking place this evening) in the Second Qualifying Round.

OFFICIAL DIGITAL PROGRAMME FLEET TOWN v AFC RUSHDEN & DIAMONDS SATURDAY 13th JANUARY 2018 – 3 P.M The Evo-Stik League South East Liam Beach who has kept ‘Clean Sheets’ in our last 2 away games Fleet Town Squad 2017/18 SPONSORED BY WELCOME FROM OUR JOINT MANAGER STEVE DORMER Good afternoon to you all and a warm welcome to The Franki Foundations Stadium. In particular the Officials and supporters of AFC Rushden & Diamonds who are our opponents for todays match, we wish them all a Happy New Year and a pleasant stay with us. In my view Rushden & Diamonds are the strongest side we have played so far this season and gave us a football lesson when we went to their ground in August. Interestingly we now only have 3 players still with us from that game, however I still expect them to be the League Champions when the end of the season comes. For Andy and I it’s a great test for us today to see how far we have come and we will certainly be doing our utmost to get something from the game. It’s a free shot for us as no one is expecting us to do anything else but lose. However we have nothing to fear and it’s a great test for the players to see if they are good enough to compete against teams at the top end of the table, rather like we did against Dunstable recently. Since Dunstable we have played 3 games away from home, a decent draw at Moneyfields on Boxing Day when we should have gone ahead in the game early on with two great opportunities falling to Matt Bunyan.

The first was back in August where the score ended 1 each in a game I felt we deserved more from, on our second half performance especially. Berkhamsted however beat us 3-0 here in the League Cup and that evening we couldn't have any complaints as they were the better team and deserved their victory on the night.
