Good afternoon everyone and today we extend a very warm welcome to the SRD Stadium, to The players, management, board members and fans of our near neighbours from just up the A41, Berkhamsted FC. Today is a rearranged fixture brought forward from boxing day and I'm sure it will be just as competitive as the two previous games this season. The first was back in August where the score ended 1 each in a game I felt we deserved more from, on our second half performance especially. Berkhamsted however beat us 3-0 here in the League Cup and that evening we couldn't have any complaints as they were the better team and deserved their victory on the night.

Since my last notes, we have played 3 of the top 4 teams in the league. Beating Peterborough at home and Cambridge City away, as well as losing to champions-elect Corby Town away. Paul assisted by Matt were thrown into the deep end last month after Scott's resignation and myself and the management committee have been very pleased with the progress on the pitch. They have brought some subtle changes both in personnel and playing style, which the lads seem to be buying into. More players are on their way and details of these will be announced when we get these over the line. One player that has rejoined us from Kempston Rovers is Ty Deacon and i know i speak for both committee members and fans when I say how happy we are to have him back, it seems to have given everyone a real lift.

To today's game, I'm hoping that we can continue our good form against a team that has been in very good form themselves and are managed by ex FC manager Steve Bateman and have a few ex-players in their ranks also, just to add a little more spice to proceedings. Hope you enjoy the game and hope you all have a safe journey home after. Tony Masella Good afternoon all and a big welcome back to the SRD stadium. I would like to welcome Steve Bateman and his Berkhamstead team back to Aylesbury FC, Steve has an important place in the history of Aylesbury FC after some great years in management here.

We are no stranger to the opposition after already playing them twice this year, with one draw and one loss in the two encounters. They have a very competitive side with lots of Step 4 experience, Steve has done a great job in bringing some good players in and making the gel so quickly. Sitting 5th in the league shows how far this side has come in such a short time. We are expecting a very good game this afternoon.

We were very pleased with the results against high flying Cambridge City last week, probably not the greatest game of football to watch but if we can still win games not at our best then I’m looking forward to seeing how we fare when we are firing from all cylinders. New faces ( one old face ) have come in as we continue to look at strengthening the side , the returning Ty Deacon and new signings Sam Odusoga and Matthew Newbrook have all shown signs of promise and all played a massive part in bringing the 3 points home.

It’s been a fine week for the under 18’s – winning in the county cup on Sunday 10-0 and beating Winslow 4-1 in the league. Billy Harrison and Nobby Swain are doing a great job with the youngsters and it’s not going to be long before they are knocking on the door of the first team.

The group is working so hard in training and are buying into what we what to achieve at this football club , We are under no illusion how tough this game will be today but …….. Hey anything can happen come 4.45pm !!!

I hope you enjoy the game and as ever your support is greatly appreciated. Come on you moles .

Paul The club has enjoyed a long history in senior and junior football dating back to the 1930’s under the previous names of Aylesbury Vale, Haywood United, Belgrave, Stocklake and Negretti and Zambra FC, which was founded in the 1930’s by workers at the Negretti and Zambra company then based in London’s King Cross district. The company moved to the Stocklake Industrial Estate, Aylesbury. in 1949 and by the mid 50’s the premises had a bar, football, cricket and tennis facilities. The football club joined the Aylesbury District League in 1954. The social club changed its name to Stocklake when Negretti and Zambra sold the premises to the local council, who then leased the facilities; hence the different sections adopted the name Stocklake. Under the guidance of Chairman Mr Ernie Crotty, the club gained many honours including runners up in ADL’s top divisions, before gaining intermediate status in the Wycombe and District League first and senior divisions. Sadly Ernie was killed in a road accident just before the club moved premises to the present location at Haywood Way in 1987.

After gaining senior status and promotion to the Chiltern League in 1988, Stocklake enjoyed many further successes including Division One runners up in 1991, Premier Division and League Cup runners up the following season and Wycombe Senior Cup success in 1995. Cup success was also followed on in the following season, this time the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup being added to the trophy cabinet. Belgrave FC was formed in 1983 by Jim Sullivan who lived in nearby Belgrave Road. Jim had two sons who were passionate about football but were limited to where they could play, so formed a team himself with the help of neighbours Lynne and David Hatcher. By 1990, under the guidance of Danny Martone, Belgrave had grown to five youth teams providing football for over ninety boys from the Quarrendon and Haydon Hill areas of Aylesbury.

1996 saw the forming of two senior teams under the Belgrave FC name and by the turn of the millennium teams were represented at all levels from Under 8’s through to seniors, some 200 players being registered, this also including Stocklake Ladies. In 2000 four youth teams won league and cup honours, whilst the senior team went on to win the Aylesbury District Cup, the Field Shield and ADL Premier Division runners up.

At the start of the 2000/2001 season, the senior Belgrave FC team was renamed Haywood United following an amalgamation with Stocklake FC with Danny Martone voted in as chairman of the new club. Haywood United joined the Spartan and won promotion into Division One after two seasons. Notable achievements during the 2001/2002 season included league awards for the best kept and most improved ground; this included the erection of floodlights and perimeter fencing, which Danny and his hard working committee fought hard to establish. Another award was gained for the match day programme in recognition of how much the club was developing.

Season 2002/2003 saw a difficult start in Division One, but with the arrival of manager Jon Franklin and his assistant Keith Walker just after Christmas, the club eventually consolidated finishing in 9th place. Promotion was gained to the South Midlands Premier Division the following year after a campaign that saw 23 wins, 7 draws and only 4 losses. Haywood United proved themselves capable of staying in the Premier Division after finishing 3rd in the 2004/2005 season in a campaign that only include one loss in the twenty matches after Christmas. The club also entered the FA Cup and Vase for the first time and won the Buckingham Charity Cup in 2006.

Season 2006/2007 began with Haywood United becoming Aylesbury Vale FC and saw Keith Walker and Steve Gleinster take over as joint managers and steadily build a squad. This was recognised in the 2008/2009 season with a good cup run in the FA Cup and FA Vase, winning three rounds in the FA Cup losing to Level 4 side Gosport after a replay, and losing out in the 4th round of the FA Vase to Leiston Town. After Christmas the side suffered due to long term injuries and finished mid table. May 2009 saw a major new development in a new semi professional side. Aylesbury Football Club was formed under the leadership of Chairman Roger Dance and assisted by Vice Chairman Danny Martone. Former Chairman Bill Harrison was made President of the club.

Great success on the field of play was to follow, with the team having a fantastic run in the F.A. Cup. We were the last 'level five' team in the country to remain in the competition and were rewarded with a visit to Haywood Way for the F.A. Cup trophy, allowing the team, supporters and local people to get their hands on this famous trophy and make the most of this memorable occasion. We were finally knocked out of the competition by Wealdstone in a close game. A brave and superb display was witnessed by a bumper crowd of 800 plus.

Meanwhile, away from the midst of F.A. Cup drama, our success continued, becoming 'Double Winners' Winning both the Spartan South Midland League and League Cup capping an extraordinary season and gaining promotion to the Southern League Division 1 Central.

Steve Bateman took over in 2013/14, steered the club to safety in his first 6 months in charge. Then in 2014/15 with Bateman at the helm FC has their most successful season to date most successful to date. Playing at the highest level in the club’s history, the team finished third in the League, having been pushing for promotion all season and narrowly lost out in the semi final to Bedworth United having already beaten them twice in the league the 2015/16 finished with a flourish as the club finished just outside the play off positions, but had the consolation of our first major Cup Final, beating Chesham United in the Berks & Bucks Cup at Windsor. Steve Bateman and his management team resigned at the end of the season and Danny Gordon & Gareth Risbridger took the helm , supported by Paul Bonham , Ryan Wiffin & Aaron Norman. Davis Haule took over from Gordon & Risbridger in December 2016, appointed brother Brian as his assistant and recruited former coaches Fraser McLachlan, Aaron Wiffin and added Ryan Collings to his back room staff for the 2017/18 season.

2017/18 was a difficult season for club finishing 21st and avoiding relegation due to the League re organisation. This season sees a new era with ex Leighton manager Scott Reynolds taking over the reigns assisted by Matt Moran, Lea Coulter and the returning Paul Bonham.

After a week of turmoil and upset after Scott Reynold's departure last Saturday, the home side put on an assured and calm performance as they took all the points against third placed Peterborough Sports. With Aaron King, Josh Williams and Lewis Strafford all unavailable Paul Bonham made some subtle changes to the starting line up and style of play, with Temi Oladejo moving onto the left of the midfield, Bruno Brito on the right and Reece Bayliss playing in the number ten position.

Gone was the more direct style of play that the home fans had seen since the start of the season, replaced with a more pleasing on the eye passing style of football with the ball being kept on the surface and with the team playing out from the back and through the midfield. Martin Griggs was almost put through on just seven minutes when a Bennion clearance was misjudged by the away defender but Griggs couldn't quite latch onto the ball and the defender recovered to clear.

The first real chance came just a minute later when a ball from the left was floated into the FC penalty area but Lewis Webb's header was saved by Bennion diving to his left. Martin Griggs then had a long range effort which went wide before Temi Oladejo, outwitted Mitch Griffiths on the left and put in a cross which just evaded Bruno Brito in the box.

Steven Johnson-Fikula was putting on another assured performance alongside Jordan Jenkins and got Jenkins out of a bit of trouble as he slipped when trying to clear a ball but Johnson-Fikula was on hand to clear to safety. FC were never really in any major trouble as they retained and used the possession they had well, the ball was being moved around well as everyone wanted to get on the ball

Johnson-Fikula again showed what a good signing he is when he lost the ball just outside his penalty box, but turned and recovered taking the ball off of the away striker with an inch perfect tackle inside the box and away for a corner. The only goal of the game came on seventy seven minutes when a lovely move by FC down the left side ended with Martin Griggs crossing with his left foot, Johnson-Fikula flicked the ball on and it was met by the head of captain Luke Cray at the far post as he planted the ball into the net for the lead.

Peterborough were to have one opportunity to equalise when Nick Bennion came off his line to clear a cross, his excellent punch fell to a Peterborough striker some twenty yards out and his first time strike was excellently saved by Bennion and pushed away. The referee blew the whistle to signal FCs first win of the season and it was well deserved, all the players and management were clapped off the field by the very happy home support.

Next weekend we travel to Corby away in what will be another severe test for the new management team.

Corby Town 5 Aylesbury FC 2 – Saturday 27th Oct 2018 - League Another quality performance saw Corby Town take over at the top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central table. The Steelmen began the game with the confidence you would expect from a team fresh from a 6-0 drubbing of the previous leaders in their last fixture. Jordan Crawford was heavily involved in Corby's early attacks, almost getting on the end of a deep Jordan Francis centre, hitting an angled drive across goal and providing the cross from which Connor Kennedy hit an effort from the edge of the box straight at former Corby goalkeeper Nick Bennion. This was, in fact, the third successive home game in which the opposing 'keeper was an ex-Steelman - Bennion following Yaxley's Ollie Sutton and Dan Crane of Bromsgrove Sporting.

So it came as something of a shock when Aylesbury took the lead with a classic goal on the break. The visitors cleared a Corby attack out to Temi Oladejo on the left wing and he made rapid progress deep into Corby territory. His centre was chested down by Aaron King to Reece Bayliss and he smashed home to finish off a swift and effective counter attack and give the moles the lead. The Steelmen took this minor set back in their stride and quickly levelled the scores when King inadvertently headed a Crawford corner back towards his own goal and Joel Carta crashed in a close range effort.

Elliot Sandy then had a header ruled out for offside and Francis took the ball round Bennion but was forced too wide to get a shot on target. Francis did not have to wait long for his second goal in as many games, however, as a 39th minute mix up between Bennion and his central defenders on the edge of the penalty area allowed the Corby winger to stroke the ball into the empty net. The first half ended with Kennedy being shown a yellow card for a foul on Craig Carby and Sam Grouse firing in a shot which only just cleared the crossbar.

Having got their noses in front at the interval Corby once again seized the initiative at the start of the second half. The Steelmen quickly opened up a two-goal lead when Grouse sidefooted home from a Crawford centre and Bennion then made a smart save from Crawford. Referee Robbie Dadley waved away appeals for a penalty when Crawford went down under the challenge of Bennion but minutes later the Bedworth official did point to the spot when Sam Warburton was sent sprawling by Jordan Jenkins as he burst into the box. Carta stepped up to take the kick but although he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way he rolled the ball inches wide of the post. Bennion failed to gather a long range shot by Greg Ling cleanly and although he did claim it at the second attempt the Corby forwards had obviously taken note as when he repeated the action from a Carta effort Sandy reacted quickest to prod in the loose ball to make it 4-1 in the 78th minute.

Minutes later Sandy made it five with a diving header from another Crawford centre and although Martin Griggs somehow managed to force in a second for the visitors in the final minute despite being a lone yellow shirt surrounded by Steelmen it was job done at the final whistle as Corby looked down from the summit of the league table. Cambridge City 2 Aylesbury FC 3 – Saturday 3rd Nov 2018 - League In his third game in charge of the first team, manager Paul Bonham shuffled the deck, giving a league debut to Samuel Odusoga at right back, whilst Ty Deacon returned to the Moles following a brief stint at Kempston Rovers. Following an impeccably observed silence to pay respect to everyone involved in the tragic events at Leicester City earlier on this week, it was the hosts who got the game underway, putting the Moles under pressure straight from kick off. After some patient build-up play the ball found its way to Ryan Towner, who had space to unleash a powerful strike which had Nick Bennion beaten all ends up, the post coming to Aylesbury’s rescue on this occasion.

This early scare kicked the visitors into life – the tireless Carl Tappin intercepted a loose ball in midfield, played an inch perfect through ball to Bruno Brito down the left channel, before the experienced winger teed up Martin Griggs’ who saw his goal bound effort deflected behind for a corner. Brito struck the resulting corner low and hard, travelling through all the bodies in the box, before falling to Griggs who was lurking on the angle of the penalty box, who struck a right footed floated effort over the helpless Liam Gooch into the bottom right hand corner to put the visitors a goal up after just five minutes.

The lead was short lived, however. The Lilywhites responded just six minutes later, a corner towards the front post was not dealt by any man in yellow, and Josh Oyinsan was on hand to tuck the ball home from six yards. Midway through the first half, with the hosts on top, Cambridge City thought they were ahead. Nick Bennion looked to claim the ball from a deep cross, Oyinsan won the ball in the air strongly, flicking it onto Ryan Sharman who converted into an open net. The referee disallowed the goal, adjudging that the FC keeper had been fouled in the build-up.

Moments later – the turning point of the match. Carl Tappin’s long ball was taken down by Ty Deacon in the City box, possibly illegally. As the striker looked to pull the trigger he was dragged down by Jack Wilkinson, who was immediately given his marching orders by the referee. Martin Griggs stepped up and converted the spot-kick to Gooch’s right for his second of the afternoon.

The man disadvantage didn’t seem to faze the hosts though, as again they were soon level. Another corner caused the FC defence all sorts of trouble, with both Derek Feyi and Jordan Jenkins failing to clear the ball away, a melee ensued with the ball falling to Jordan Gent on the goal line who will never score an easier goal in his career. The Moles came out of the blocks the quickest in the second half and were soon back in front. Carl Tappin again instrumental in the goal. A ball over the top of the Cambridge City back line saw Ty Deacon clean through one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The returning striker celebrated the bonfire weekend with a rocket of his own, dispatching the ball past Gooch to the bottom right.

The Lilywhites were pressuring the FC back line for long periods of the second half, but to no avail. Some important saves from Nick Bennion, and multiple courageous blocks from Jordan Jenkins meant that the Moles returned to Buckinghamshire with all three points, in a game that was played under a particularly heated atmosphere.

Aylesbury FC 2018/19

The club was formed in 2009 and appointed experienced manager Micky Vipond who had been successful with Leverstock Green, Tring Athletic and Hemel Hempstead Town (where he had a long playing career). The club won the Molten Spartan South Midlands League Division 2 title in its first season, losing only once each at home and away. Winning division 2 by 9 points led to promotion to division 1. The team were again champions in 2010-11, this time by 15 points and were unbeaten at home in the league. This earned the team a second successive promotion and movement up to the Premier division, where the club stayed for 6 years. The total of 107 points was the highest in the season for any club in the non-league pyramid, prompting the Herts. FA to award the club the prestigious Sir Stanley Rous Memorial Trophy. It is named after a former local referee and administrator who rose all the way from West Herts. football to the top job at FIFA. The team won promotion to the Southern League by finishing as Premier division runners up in 2018.

2011 saw the club enter the FA Cup and FA Youth Cup for the first time. The FA Cup tie with St Albans City was goalless at Clarence Park, but an exit came at Broadwater in the replay. In 2012 they went out to Metropolitan Police in the 2nd qualifying round of the FA Cup, having knocked out Hoddesdon Town, Hadley and Uxbridge. 2013 brought home wins over AFC Dunstable and Harefield United, but defeat at Daventry Town. In 2014 Ashford Town eliminated the club in the first match and in 2015 the Comrades won against Hanworth Villa but went out to Barton Rovers.
