Katedra zabezpečuje výchovu odborníkov v širokom spektre študijných a vedných odborov a špecializácií, akými sú: elektrická trakcia, elektrické pohony, elektrické stroje, výkonová elektronika, elektroenergetika, infor- mačné systémy v elektroenergetike. Elektrická trakcia predstavuje dnes prienik týchto špecializovaných smerov; je prirodzenou syntézou výkonových a riadiacich systémov. Má síce relatívne krátku, ale o to viac bohatšiu históriu. Jej priekopníkmi už v bývalej Československej republike boli Ing. František Křižík a prof. Dr. Ing. František Jansa, DrSc. a jej pokračovateľmi prof. Ing. Imrich Solík, DrSc. a prof. Ing. Dear reader, this issue of Communications is devoted to electric traction – one of the important technologies in railway transport. It’s well known that electric traction is the self-evident presence for somebody, the past time for another one, and splendid future for others. For many of you is also known fact that the Depart- ment of Electric Traction and Energetics is still active at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Uni- versity of Žilina. The department provides education of specialists in a wide spectrum of educational and scientific branches and specializations as electric traction and electric drives, electrical machines, power electronics, power engineering, and information systems in power engineering. The electric traction today presents a conjunction of those specializations, and it is a synthesis of power – and control systems. Though its history is relatively short, it is really rich. Pioneers of electric traction in former Czechoslovak Republic were František Křižík as well as Prof. František Jansa, and theirs followers Prof. Imrich Solík and Prof. Vladimír Ráček. The future of electric traction can be seen in high-speed LGV – and Transra- pid systems of the French – and German Railways, respectively. I believe that we shall meet these or similar systems on the pages of the Communications in the near future. • Effects of Strong Cross Winds on High-Speed Trains: a Methodol- Ogy for Risk Assessment and Development of Countermeasures
Effects of Strong Cross Winds on High-Speed Trains: A methodol- ogy for risk assessment and development of countermeasures Gerd Matschke, Peter Deeg, Burkhard Schulte-Werning FTZ, Aerodynamik und Klimatechnik Deutsche Bahn AG, Research & Technology Centre Völckerstrasse 5, 80939 München 1 INTRODUCTION The effect of side winds on rail transport has been investigated since the 1970s by interna- tional research, especially by the railways in Germany, England and Japan. For the DB the subject of side winds only became important with the introduction of the ICE2 with its fast, light driving trailer. Since then DB has been involved in intensive interdisciplinary co- operation to develop a generally valid method for rail transport to guarantee that railways can operate safely with a strong side wind. A basic procedure was described and discussed in 1997 at the World Congress for Railway Research [17]. This paper describes the methodology derived from its continuous further development, as summarised in the Draft Code of Practice Ril 401 of Deutsche Bahn pub- lished in May 2000. The procedure specified in Code of Practice Ril 401 was recognised in May 2000 by the Eisenbahn-Bundesamt (Federal Railway Office - EBA) as a means of proving that railway traffic can run safely when there is a side wind and has since then be- come part of the vehicle acceptance procedure used by the EBA. 2 BASIC PRINCIPLES AND PROCEDURE The effect of side wind on rail vehicles is basically determined by the following parameters: The vehicle properties such as shape, weight, position of centre of gravity, running gear properties, etc.

This locomotive started its second life through a second-hand transaction, 29 years after the manufacturer completed it. Built by Alsthom for Dutch national operator NS in 1982, locomotive 1836 was sold to private rail freight operator LOCON Benelux B.V. in October 2011. Subsequently, the locomotive was repainted and renumbered in 9905. In September 2017, when LOCON Benelux B.V. faced bankruptcy, Rotterdam-based rail fleet management company RailReLease B.V. acquired it. At that time, locomotive 9905 was still going strong at an age of 35 years, showing the potential of second-hand rail vehicles. • Finished Vehicle Logistics by Rail in Europe
Finished Vehicle Logistics by Rail in Europe Version 3 December 2017 This publication was prepared by Oleh Shchuryk, Research & Projects Manager, ECG – the Association of European Vehicle Logistics. Foreword The project to produce this book on ‘Finished Vehicle Logistics by Rail in Europe’ was initiated during the ECG Land Transport Working Group meeting in January 2014, Frankfurt am Main. Initially, it was suggested by the members of the group that Oleh Shchuryk prepares a short briefing paper about the current status quo of rail transport and FVLs by rail in Europe. It was to be a concise document explaining the complex nature of rail, its difficulties and challenges, main players, and their roles and responsibilities to be used by ECG’s members. However, it rapidly grew way beyond these simple objectives as you will see. The first draft of the project was presented at the following Land Transport WG meeting which took place in May 2014, Frankfurt am Main. It received further support from the group and in order to gain more knowledge on specific rail technical issues it was decided that ECG should organise site visits with rail technical experts of ECG member companies at their railway operations sites. These were held with DB Schenker Rail Automotive in Frankfurt am Main, BLG Automotive in Bremerhaven, ARS Altmann in Wolnzach, and STVA in Valenton and Paris. As a result of these collaborations, and continuous research on various rail issues, the document was extensively enlarged. The document consists of several parts, namely a historical section that covers railway development in Europe and specific EU countries; a technical section that discusses the different technical issues of the railway (gauges, electrification, controlling and signalling systems, etc.); a section on the liberalisation process in Europe; a section on the key rail players, and a section on logistics services provided by rail.

Wickness Models Soundscape DB V160 Manufacturer: - Wickness Models Project number: - WMx7 Project version: - London X73500 Diesel Railcar-Multiple Unit Power type diesel Builder Krupp, KHD, Henschel, Krauss-Maffei, MaK Total produced 224 The Class V 160 (after 1968: Class 216) is a class of diesel-hydraulic locomotives of the German railways. It is the first variant of the V160 family, built for the Deutsche Bundesbahn for medium/heavy trains. The Class were successful locomotives, eventually leading to a family of similar locomotives. Due to them having steam heating, and a lack in later years of suitable coaching stock they were amongst the first of the family to be withdrawn, no examples being operated by Deutsche Bahn AG by 2004. A few examples were converted to the short lived DBAG Class 226, with other examples being rebuilt and still in service with private operators. Following good performance from the diesel-hydraulic locomotive the DB Class V 80, in the period of history of the German Railways sometimes known as Epoch III, the Deutsche Bundesbahn planned (in 1953) to build several types of new diesel locomotive, primarily to replace steam powered locomotives; these were: V 60, and V 65, both shunters, the V 65.2, also for shunting as well as light freight trains, DB Class V 200, for express passenger trains, and the V 160 for both freight and passenger work on the main network. Initially a 1600 hp machine using two engines of the type used in the V80 was planned; in a similar fashion to the V200, which was powered by two engines of the type used in the V100.

  • New Items 2017 Digital
New items 2017 DIGITAL 2 Dear ESU friends, Isn’t it amazing how time flies! In 2017 we at ESU celebrate the 20th anniversary of our company! After the initial “Storm and Stress” years around the millennium, ESU has been established as a reliable partner for model train enthusiasts and the model train industry as a whole. Numerous innovative ideas and products originated from these times and have been successfully introduced to the market. And, only because these products – starting with the classic LokSound decoder – have been received so well by you, we are now in a position to present even more exciting products of the year 2017: Our ECoS digital command station will get an internal facelift and will be upgraded to 6A power output and a new power pack. Of course, we will also continue to advance the software in order to be able to provide new functions for the ever increasing number of ECoS users. In addition, we have launched a new LokPilot V4.0 M4 MKL with 6 amplified function outputs for the more recently introduced Märklin® locomotives. Our highlight of the year will certainly be a complete new design and construction of the electric locomotive E03 / class 103.1. In our opinion this cult locomotive can only be done justice by a prototypical, up to date implementation! In order to provide even more diversity we are also introducing a number of shape and livery variants for the V200, class 265, class 245 and the “Ludmilla”. Since the “Deutz” set of tank cars, which were introduced last year, has been received so well we are pleased to announce new sets with different road numbers as well as some single cars to add to your fleet.
